General Discussion / Email change
« on: October 12, 2010, 09:53:53 PM »
Hi Scott,

I think all your details are sync'd with the VATSIM database, so you'll need to change your VATSIM registered email address to change this.

Cheers!

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / Emergency Procedures?
« on: July 15, 2010, 07:34:34 AM »
Hi Paul,

Quick question.
[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]Remember No chatbox in real life folks.[/quote]
Did you, by chance refuse to use text with the controller and therefore not readback any further instructions?

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]If not you have a problem, and as the aircraft gets closer you clear space for him to land. Other aircraft may have to hold, some may be able to follow in a visual approach. Whatever it takes!![/quote]
Except that this wasn't an emergency/problem or an unusual situation [on VATSIM]. You simply went from using voice to text because of some unknown glitch (it happens). Were you expecting priority handling from the controller because of this?

The controllers remarks (I had a look) were rude. But if I may quote from your double post in the ZFW forum
[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]It amazes me how many controllers forget they are performing a service, not sitting like God in a tower[/quote]
Although controllers on VATSIM do provide a service, they're not being paid for it. Please, don't be surprised if things like this continue to happen to you if you have an attitude like that when you deal with controllers.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]What you Don't do is have a fit, put nasty notes in the flight strip, and whine like a baby.[/quote]
And what you don't do is have a fit, put nasty notes in the forum and whine like a baby. There are ways and means of dealing with a situation like this. This is not one of them. Contact the ARTCC.

Cheers!

Hi Kyle,

Could you or Alex repost that file? It seems to have been lost in the website migration.

Your account was probably suspended because of the false name you're using.

Really? You didn't think that using such an obvious false name (especially one that could cause offense) would get your account frozen?

[email protected]

They'll be able to help you out with renaming your account to your real name.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Check-In Responsibility

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]"why do we need forums?"[/quote]
So people can express their opinions.

This is the VATUSA forum and the majority of people posting here are VATUSA members. We are allowed to express and share our opinion whether you like it or not. If there was anything abusive or rude here, you can be guaranteed it would be locked. All I have seen in this topic is some passionate expression of opinion, which should be encouraged rather than belittled.

You should also read the entire thread, not just parts of it, so you can see the full story.

Cheers!

Hi Richard,

Completely agree. I, like you live by a few simple rules. One of them is this: You have to lead by example. This has to come from the top down.

If it worked as advertised and the freeware version had no network limitations, I wouldn't have a problem with that. In fact, being (self described) a hardcore VATSIMmer, I would probably buy the payware version to support the developer and VATSIM.

vroute has already set the precedent.

Actually,

I was just thinking why we need an EC? They've barely done anything and anything they have done has been a complete waste of time. Get rid of the EC and let the divisions work their magic with oversight from the BoG directly and I'd think you'd end up with far less problems on the network .

Cheers!

General Discussion / Rumor control. Please confirm or deny

Hi,

I don't think Jason was taking a shot at VATUSA. I believe he was addressing his comment to Dave Klain and the VATSIM leadership due to the fact that Gary seemed to imply that Dave was wrong in his assumption that no previous VATUSA DD was asked not to post in the GRP discussion forum.

Just a thought.

Cheers!

Hi,

Avoiding controlled airspace (B+C specifically) is not completely necessary.

From CFR 91.215
[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--](d) ATC authorized deviations.
Requests for ATC authorized deviations must be made to the ATC facility having jurisdiction over the concerned airspace within the time periods specified as follows:

(1) For operation of an aircraft with an operating transponder but without operating automatic pressure altitude reporting equipment having a Mode C capability, the request may be made at any time.

(2) For operation of an aircraft with an inoperative transponder to the airport of ultimate destination, including any intermediate stops, or to proceed to a place where suitable repairs can be made or both, the request may be made at any time.

(3) For operation of an aircraft that is not equipped with a transponder, the request must be made at least one hour before the proposed operation.[/quote]
Since (3) in not applicable here (as you pointed out you do have an xpnder in SB/FSInn), and if you consider not being able to squawk a discreet code as inop, once you pre-coordinate it with the appropriate controller, you can enter B or C airspace.

By the way, if you use SB, you can use the command ".x [code]" to change your squawk code.

Cheers!

The Flight Deck / Preferred RWYs question
« on: January 19, 2010, 01:46:37 PM »
Hi,

For KBOS. Our calm wind runway is Rwy04R (winds less than 5kts). Also, landings may not happen on Rwy09 and 14. Departures may not happen on Rwy32. Jet aircraft may not depart Rwy04L or land on Rwy22R.

After that, if there is no ATC, just go with the runway that is most aligned with the wind or that the majority of pilots are using. If there are controllers on, check the airport ATIS and it will give you the current runway config that we are using.

Cheers!
