General Discussion / EUROSCOPE VS VRC
« on: September 07, 2012, 12:48:03 AM »
I disagree with you there Chris.

VRC is more realistic for US control then Euroscope, which is why it is the US default, while Euroscope is more realistic for Europe, hence why it's the Europe default.

While Euroscope does have a steeper learning curve, this is not the reason that US controllers and facilities have made the switch to Euroscope, While some also support Euroscope, the majority don't as it does not serve many advantages to US controllers.

Is that apart from the fact that the chart states, "ORD Landing West : Expect Radar vectors to final approach course after PAITN"

Out of interest,

What are the advantages of signing up to one of your events? I saw it and I like the feature, just wanted to know what it was used for, whether it be aggregating data or whatever.

I don't see where you two are coming from,

I would be even more inclined to pull them off as early as possible and clear them direct the IAP for the approach if there was little to no traffic. As there is a much lower chance of a conflict arising.

If I were running CTR (on a normal afternoon / evening, when it's not too busy), and I see an RNAV capable a/c, even if they're quite far out, I'd just give them the approach clearance (as long as I can then separate any other A/C flying in or out) as it means the pilot doesn't fly as far and I have less work to do, Win Win Scenario?

RX is recieve, so I think he means when someone is talking on freq, mute TS.

Now, Moving on, that would require VRC and vSTARS having some sort of API to obtain the status of frequency comms at any point in time.

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / VRC and Windows 7

To my understanding and experience,

No Intel Chipset Hardware acceleration settings can be changed using Windows Vista or 7 due to the Intel Drivers themselves, this is uniform between chipsets.

Negative,

ASRC used a different voice codec due to it's age, the standardized VVL hadn't been created back then (to my belief)

All VATSIM clients use the same Voice library at this point not including ASRC.

Hold on, wait, stop for one second here...

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]Rahul provided a very good list as to the possibilities.[/quote]

I did good? Oh boy! Yippee! Finally I did something right...

Moving swiftly on,

I'd have to agree with Bryan, I've never seen anybody leave because they couldn't get a rating, or didn't have any "achievement badges" (As I will now refer to them) to show off.

But if there is any evidence of such, I'm sure that we can begin to address the problem, should there be one.

Yes,

But I never saw a public post by the BoG / Founders making the program an incentive, note that they privately sent the email to those who had amassed the hours in a show of respect, this has a secondary effect of making it an incentive, but that does not seem to be the primary effect sought by the VATSIM BoG / Founders to my eye.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]Many people say they enjoy it purely for the controlling, but if that is the case, why is the turnover so high?[/quote]

For the reasons I stated above and some new ones
    Burnout
    Family matters
    Personal issues
    Suspension
    Loss of interest
    Near-requirement of training new pilots
The unfairness (in the mind of some controllers) of the system that ATC has to have training while the pilot can just connect
    And others not listed here[/li]

Edit : Added a clause to the unfairness reason.

Cheers!
