« on: October 20, 2015, 09:29:47 AM »

The Anchorage ARTCC would like to present VFR OPS Juneau. Join us Wednesday November 4th from 2330-0230 Zulu (1430 AKST, 1830 EST) at the PAJN airport. Juneau is unique because of its vicinity to mountainous terrain and breathtaking scenery. It’s a busy community being the state capital and a major tourist destination. Join us with whatever aircraft you like and as always IFR flights are welcome. This will be our biggest VFR OPS event yet, so come and enjoy the chaos.

Our recurring events feature tower controlled airports, located in rural areas of Alaska. Whether it’s passenger, mail, cargo or emergency medical transportation, residents in bush communities require necessary services. Our featured airports serve as hubs that provide the essential link between small villages and the rest of the world.

« on: October 04, 2015, 01:01:20 PM »

The Anchorage ARTCC would like to present our annual Bring Santa Home event. After some much needed time off he’s ready to head back home to North Pole, which just happens to be outside Fairbanks. Whether he spent his post delivery break on Waikiki Beach or the Gaslight in Anchorage, he needs to get home because the reindeer are starting to get restless.

Come join us in Fairbanks (PAFA) on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 2300 until 0400 Zulu (1400 AKST, 1800 EST). We will be fully staffed for his return, so come punish the Anchorage ARTCC crew, while you nurse your New Year’s hangover.

PAFA Arrivals: Please file the HRDNG1 or LIBER1 STAR routes, if able.

I didn't directly participate but set up at to watch planes come in. I wouldn't say it was a great turn out, but hey it was their first go. Maybe given more time and better weather this can be a nice event. Think next time I will put a Goose out in the water off the end of rwy 25 to do some plane spotting  8)

Ken hit the nail on the head Chris. With VFR OPS events we anticipate the draw will be substantially lower then Friday Night Ops but out goal isn't a plethora of traffic. We just want an event that will be unique and fun. Other then the weather being low and blowing, we accomplished our goal. Next time, take that Goose and do some pattern work:)
