General Discussion / Re: vERAM Tutorials
« on: December 13, 2018, 07:31:05 PM »
Using vERAM to work top down at my facility is a difficult pain in the ass that even the nerdiest and most seasoned among us avoid doing. It is not well suited to terminal operations, though it can be done. Otherwise Dhruv mentioned how much more clearly information is provided.

If, and it’s a big if, you have enough screen real-estate to run a few windows, it gets a lot easier.

Granted, between second and third windows and an abundance of shortcuts you can do it. Here's hoping vERAM gets some kind of small D-Side update so you can better manipulate flightplans and see filed ones.

General Discussion / Re: What Website??????????

One thing i have noticed.... Is the text ATIS and the Verbal ATIS from airports is usually different. The written could be info V and the verbal is saying INFO C... Has anyone addressed this on X Plane?

Thanks
TOM

VATSIM controllers make their own ATIS and either pick a random letter or sometimes try and use whatever the real airport is using. X-Plane and FSX/P3D generate random letters for the ATIS and also always pick the runway based on best wind.

If text ATIS and Voice ATIS are different for a VATSIM controllers it's because they didn't record a new ATIS yet  :P

look at those websites' satillette maps showing live action of planes' movements toward runways.

Yes.

Aharon,

Some pilots will also use www.flightaware.com or www.flightradar24.com to see what real airplanes are doing in the moment. You can use either site to see a live traffic map of any airport, and should be able to determine what direction they are landing.

The Flight Deck / Re: Updates for Navigation?
« on: October 17, 2018, 05:54:09 PM »
I really appreciate all of the responses, truly.

That said, as a newb who hasn't been in a real cockpit for 15 years--there's a lot of stuff thrown into those answers that have me suffering from a touch of information overload.  So, let me ask this a little differently.

1.  How do I keep from angering the ATC and other pilots when I'm flying out of/in to places, considering I'm using vanilla FSX:SE, with respect to IFR Flight Plans?  (Sounds like "/a" is a solid go-to, and just plan through FSX?)

2.  I like the idea of a higher-end pay-for plane, but I don't think I can justify that just yet, having just returned.  Perhaps in a couple of months.  That said, anything particular to look for?

3. I tried installing the stuff from aero.sors.fr, and a couple of things happened.  First, got some scenery errors.  I worked through those, and loaded up at KMEM (I have a SID printed out for that, so I had a few intersections I could look for).  I didn't find any of the intersections.  Any way to tell if the install worked, and these simply weren't there, or they're there, but the install failed?

4.  With that in mind--did I understand that response correctly?  It effectively inserts the newer fixes, intersections,  etc?

Thanks a ton.  I don't want to wear-out my welcome with the newbie questions, but this feels sort of...well...basal for the whole system.

/A is the easiest way for you, since many SID and STAR charts can be flown that way as they are based on ground navigation radios that haven't changed. However, you need to know how to fly them which can present difficult for some. Avoid "RNAV" terminology until you have a plane capable of it.

Include "Default FSX GPS" in your flightplan remarks.

Per ZME - ZTL LOA all aircraft arriving into ATL or ATL Satellites are to cross the ZME - ZTL boundary AOB FL330. So that would be why.

I'd assume the reason they followed this without an Atlanta Center online is due to the possibility of them signing on. You should always follow LOAs even when the other controller is not online.

At or At or Above? Curious where in Memphis' airspace this took place. In ZLA I'll often issue a PD to 240 for airplanes arriving LAX. Sometimes pilots mishear that as "Descend Now" instead of "Descend Pilot's Discretion."

At or below (AOB). Usually pilots are told to descend at pilots discretion but more times then not they would descend immediately.

I read AOA because reading comprehension.

Featuring our two beachside bravos, ZLA presents Friday Night Ops at KLAX and KSAN!

Pilots are encouraged to fly from neighboring ARTCCs to San Diego or Los Angeles or vice versa. Pilots wishing to fly between these airports should be prepared for ground holds and release times.

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / Re: Euroscope Set Up

Tom, Euroscope has its advantages, but most facilities in the US are geared towards using VRC (or vSTARS and vERAM). VRC is a bit easier to use, and might be a good starting place for you.

Having 3 Bravo airports can have its advantages. In this case, we successfully split traffic between them which I think helped everyone, pilots and controllers alike.

Thanks fellas! I will get with them ASAP. Thank you very much. I'll get that exam done and then request the transfer. In the mean time before I take the exam I will email them as well and let them know I did the CBT Block 1 and hopefully get the ball rolling.

It has been ages since I have controlled and am eager to get going again. I started way back in 2002 on the Zone and moved over to eSkyWorld and have bounced around over the years. A LOT of fun times over the years.

Thanks again fellas for the information and the oh so fuzzy warm welcome!  ;D

Now there are some names I haven't heard in a long time.
