On July 8th is another VATSIM First Wings!

Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you!

At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them.

For this edition, we will be flying in North America. Fly between Little Rock (KLIT) and Charlotte (KCLT), departing either airport from 20 to 23 UTC.

Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/. If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop.

These events will from now on be held on a regular basis, with one edition occurring on the second weekend of each month. To allow everyone to participate, regardless of their timezone, the location of the event rotates every month, passing through all corners of the World.

Hello,

DP003 Revision 5 has been posted on the Policies and Downloads page and is now in effect. The major changes are as follows:

  • FNO bidding has returned to two bidding cycles per year (JAN-JUNE & JULY-DEC)
  • FNO policies and procedures have changed to allow single-field FNOs and single-ARTCC FNOs with restrictions. There will be a limit of eight single-field FNOs per bidding cycle.
  • 7210.35C has been cancelled. Command Center policy has been moved to DP003 5.8 with slight modifications
  • A small exception to the "double booking" rule has been added, which allows ARTCCs to book on top of multi-day events without permission from VATUSA5
  • ACE Team usage by facilities has been clarified, and the chapter has been reformatted

You can access the new policy as an attachment on this forum post or at https://www.vatusa.net/info/policies/general-events-policy-r5
