NOTAMs / Requesting assistance from Supervisors
« on: December 08, 2014, 09:02:19 PM »
Great post Don...I know we've incorporated this into our alias file for years now, for non responsive pilots. A single command and it send the pilots callsign, location (ZAN ARTCC) and the fact that they are non-responsive to requests from ATC. This can then be followed with additional info as needed.

The Control Room Floor / VRC - Simultaneous Log On
« on: September 05, 2014, 10:38:04 AM »
Unfortunately Kyle I would say no...due to Vatsim Code of Conduct regulations which prohibit more than a single connection (exception for an ATIS). For more information you can find the regs at http://www.vatsim.net/network/docs/coc/ and the relevant portion is A8.b

Also, the login structure of VATSIM won't support multiple logins of the same name, so there can only ever be a single instance of a particular callsign on the network.

The Flight Deck / KORD Question from a Red-Faced Newbie
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:09:46 AM »
Brad hit the nail on the head. If you ever find yourself in the "OMG, I don't have XYZ runway that he cleared me too." situation, just advise the controller and we can let you know how to proceed (whether the runway number has merely been changed, or if it's a new runway that you simply can't land on). Most controllers should be able to handle the abnormality without pause, and hey..it's something different in our day maybe!

General Discussion / Account creation date

Actually, the StatCheck link should still be active (https://cert.vatsim.net/vatsimnet/statcheck.html). Used to reset your password should it become necessary, it does display the date of issue for the certificate. As far as I know anybody can still use it, at least I've never had special privileges to.

Haha. How much had you consumed prior to posting this Don? Of course I always thought I was better than most of the FAA guys I hear on LiveATC (they always mess things up!).

(Yes, I was typing this as you put your last FYI)

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / So Confused
« on: November 19, 2012, 05:14:01 PM »
Hi Drew. For the sector files for VRC you normally need to find them at the facility responsible for the airport(s). In your case, both of the airports fall under Kansas City ARTCC, which has a new website under construction at http://www.kcartcc.com/index.php. You may try contacting the Air Traffic Manager, Wes Miles, at atm[at]kcartcc.com to see if he can provide you a link to the files you need. I haven't looked at the VATUSA Training Material, but for sector, pof, and alias files you can expect to find them on the individual ARTCC websites, which are linked at the bottom of the VATUSA homepage.

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / "Radar Contact"
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:03:55 PM »
Hi Earl,
You should not (usually) hear "Radar Contact" from a tower unless they are simulating a radar certified tower (which is usually only at large fields afaik). Provided departure control is available (APP/DEP/CTR) you should hear it prior to being given any instructions, since as a radar controller you should not issue any instructions to an aircraft you have not positively identified. You will also usually hear it when entering controlled airspace (from an airstrip, etc) when first contacting a radar controller (APP/CTR) after flying through an area of no control (due either to lack of staff or area procedures).

Again, the first "radar" controller should tell you you are "radar contact", and state your position (and indicated altitude if you have not yet reported it), but a Tower usually should not on VATSIM (with the above stated exceptions).
