Sure, I'll answer the questions and put an end to any rumors someone is creating.

1. No person has been told by me that they should not post questions in the GRP forum.  Can't speak for Richard Jenkins but I doubt he told anyone either.

all the best,
Dave

General Discussion / VATSIM MITRE/CAASD Member Survey
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:51:13 AM »
Please spread the word about this...post on your own forums...VATSIM is looking for strong response to this.

The MITRE Corporation is evaluating VATSIM as a candidate environment for prototyping and evaluating new aviation concepts, tools and procedures. As a VATSIM user, your VATSIM and real-world aviation experiences are important demographics which we'd like to use to help us interpret results and inform the design of new experiments. The results of such studies may be used in subsequent professional publications and presentations.

This demographics survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and should not require soul-searching, introspection, or heady in-depth analyses. For respondents outside the United States, please know that MITRE is very much interested in the wealth of international talent available on VATSIM. While we have not yet engaged that segment of the community, we do recognize its equivalent potential for research purposes and encourage your participation.

This survey will remain active for at least one month, beginning January 16, 2009. You will be required to use your numeric VATSIM ID (and a non-VATSIM password) to begin the survey. Once completed, you may use that identity to update your survey as you feel compelled.

By completing this survey, you are consenting to the use of your data by MITRE for research purposes; if you do not wish to give consent then do not complete this survey. Please know that your candid responses will be held in the strictest confidence and your data will never be used externally except in aggregate, anonymous form and will always be protected by MITRE. If you complete the questionnaire but later decide that you'd prefer not to be included, please contact us and we will drop your data without question.

Please go to http://www.mitrecaasd.org/vatsim/ if you'd like to participate.

Thanks for your continued interest.

General Discussion / Alternate forum skins
« on: February 04, 2009, 05:46:53 AM »
Hi all,

I'll see what can be done to alter the "mood lighting" on here somewhat...please be patient with us on this. As Paul pointed out, this skin has been highly customized to provide the layout format, shading and other items that make the forum unique and useful. Like Sean said, IPB skin design is not for the faint of heart due to its heavy reliance on CSS and use of its extension capabilities...IPB skinners do not work cheap...well, I guess I do since no one's paid me for any of this work so far...

General Discussion / Guard Freqency
« on: January 25, 2009, 07:35:36 AM »
Anthony,

As mentioned, the threads in the VATSIM forum have covered this topic ad nauseum...there is no need to rehash it all here.

There have been (and may still be) virtual SAR operations on VATSIM - including within VATUSA airspace. To my knowledge, they have all held successful operations of one type or another and enjoyed the network without the necessity of using 121.5 or any other Emergency/Guard channel.

STOP trying to promote this as a "VATUSA is usurping VATSIM authority" discussion. If such was the case and the BoG had issue with the VATUSA regulation prohibiting the use of said channels, do you not think they would have: 1) refused the original implementation; or 2) demanded its removal (even now)? As none of these have occurred, things shall stay as they are as this best serves the community as a whole. Learn to live with it or move on.

By the way, posting in over-sized fonts does not engender greater sympathy - rather it comes across as a piteous cry for attention. Think about it...

I think our forum should be "Los Angeles" not "Los Angles"

Nice forum, the integration is smooth and everything flows very nicely, good work.

One small thing, when clicking the header it directs you to Vatusa.net which can cause confusion and somewhat inconvenience. Maybe it could be possible to have it redirect back to the forum's main page, and have a link to Vatusa.net in the tool bar somewhere. This would clear many things up.

Rudy, Thanks for your critique...the link back to the forum 'home' is just below the banner...for now, the banner link shall remain as is.
