News / ZOB Staff Changes

Please help me to congratulate ZOB's newest Training Administrator, Kyle Williams. Kyle joined ZOB more than two years ago as an Observer, and has progressed through the ranks to an Instructor. By assuming his new responsibilities, he will look forward to gain even more experience by leading our training department to new, awesome things! I look forward to his progress!

I'm also glad to announce that we have also found a new Events Coordinator, Jonathan Johnson! Johnathan has been a longstanding member in our community and is looking forward to put more events on the table. Congrats, Johnathan!

With Jonathan's and Kyle's promotions, ZOB now has a full, active ARTCC staff again. I'm looking forward to great things for the future of ZOB!

News / Position Posting: Cleveland ARTCC Events Coordinator

Cleveland ARTCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Events Coordinator.

Duties:
  • Reports to the DATM; ATM and VATUSA5 as necessary
  • Maintain active online presence on the website, Discord, forums, email, and network
  • Attends staff meetings as called by the ATM
  • Plans, schedules, and executes at a minimum, one ZOB sponsor event each quarter.
  • Promotes ZOB events via all communication methods available to ensure active participation.
  • Develops and distributes marketing material (graphics, news posts, forum posts, etc) to promote events and the ARTCC.
  • Coordinates with divisional and neighboring ARTCC’s for event support and planning purposes
  • Acts as the primary liaison between virtual aviation organizations and the ARTCC
  • Supervises events by having an online presence, or by assigning an appropriate Controller in Charge (CIC) for events
  • Ensure events are appropriately staffed
  • Any other duty assigned

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must have at least a Senior Student (S3) rating. An S2 rating may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must be an active member of the network in good standing
  • Be a member of ZOB, or willing to transfer upon selection
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

Highly Desired Skills:
  • Set an example as an active controller both during events and normal daily operations. The best leaders lead by example.
  • Possess a high degree of commitment and motivation
  • Possess experience and certification within the Cleveland ARTCC
  • Have previous staff experience in a VATSIM ATC facility or virtual airline

Please join me to congratulate ZOB's newest webmaster, Benjamin Matthews. Benjamin joins us from VATUK, where he previously has served as a mentor as well as helping out with developing ATC material. Now he joins us at ZOB and has already started to work with a new, improved Cleveland ARTCC website. I'm looking forward to seeing his progress.

I'd also like to thank Chris Davis for his time as our webmaster. Chris decided to resign due to real world commitments but will be staying as a controller.

So thank you, Chris and welcome to ZOB, Benjamin!

Are you a Master of the Web? Great! Cleveland ARTCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of WebMaster.

Duties:
  • Reports to the ATM regarding the website
  • Maintain active online presence on the website, Discord, forums, email, and network
  • Manages and oversees the ARTCCs data services including web content and delivery, web services, email systems, data storage systems, etc.
  • Must respond quickly to website and data system needs.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for operation and maintenance of the ARTCC web and data systems
  • Maintains the ZOB Discord server
  • Attends staff meetings as called by the ATM
  • Any other duty assigned

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be an active member of the network in good standing
  • Be a member of ZOB, or willing to transfer upon selection
  • Must be proficient with modern web programming languages and techniques, including PHP, HTML, MySQL, and CSS
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

Highly Desired Skills:
  • Possess a high degree of commitment and motivation
  • Possess experience and certification within the Cleveland ARTCC
  • Familiarity with the Concrete5 platform and VATUSA API
  • Have previous staff experience in a VATSIM ATC facility or virtual airline

Since Leszek recently was appointed to the DATM position, I'm now glad to announce that Eton Wallace has assumed the role of ZOB's Facility Engineer.

Having just earned his S3 rating, Eton is motivated to be a part of the ZOB staff team and continue to improve our ARTCC. He has already started to work with drawing out the terminals at Cleveland and Buffalo. I look forward to see what else he has in store for us. Congrats Eton!

Cleveland ARTCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Facility Engineer.

Duties:
  • Reports to the DATM; ATM as necessary
  • Maintain active online presence on the website, teamspeak, forums, email, and network
  • Attends staff meetings as called by the ATM
  • Creates, maintains and updates ZOB sector files, alias files, POF files, and vATIS config files.
  • Coordinates with ZOB and other ARTCC staff to mitigate and manage frequency and automation problems.
  • Maintains approved facility Orders, SOPs and LOAs, ensuring they are electronically available through the website.
  • Develops and maintains Quick Reference Cards
  • Review and recommend the use of other controller tools for implementation within the ARTCC
  • Any other duty assigned

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must have at least a Senior Student (S3) rating
  • Must be an active member of the network in good standing
  • Be a member of ZOB, or willing to transfer upon selection
  • Be skilled with VATSIM ATC Client software and software involved in technical file creation/manipulation.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

Highly Desired Skills:
  • Possess a high degree of commitment and motivation
  • Possess experience and certification within the Cleveland ARTCC
  • Have previous Facility Engineer experience

I'm glad to announce that Leszek Kwasniowski has assumed the role of Deputy Air Traffic Manager for Cleveland ARTCC today. Congrats Leszek! Leszek has been one of our Mentors and our Facility Engineer for some time now, and we expect great things out of him as we continue to improve the ARTCC.

I'd also like to thank Joe Carr for his time as a DATM for almost 2 years now. Joe will be staying as an instructor and we look forward to many more years on the scope with him.

Duties:
  • Reports to the ATM; VATUSA3 as necessary

  • Acts as a senior staff member, leading and supporting ARTCC members
  • Attends staff meetings as called by the ATM
  • Maintains, updates, and manages the training program, lessons, sweatbox scenarios and exam rubrics
  • Abides by the requirements of the VATSIM Global Ratings Policy
  • Oversees the quality of the training program
  • Responsible for seeking out, appointing, and managing ZOB Instructors and Mentors
  • Hold periodic training meetings to discuss changes and updates
  • Creatively designs training resources to help controllers progress through the training program more efficiently
  • Approves exam assignment for students and finalizes promotions
  • Any other duty assigned by the ATM

Minimum Requirements:
  • Be an active member of the network in good standing
  • Be a member of ZOB, or willing to transfer upon selection
  • Currently holding a C1 rating or above
  • Currently holding or have previously held an I1 in VATUSA
  • Be able to work well in a team-oriented environment
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills

Highly Desired Skills:
  • Be a previous or current ZOB Mentor/Instructor
  • Possess a high degree of commitment and motivation
  • Possess experience and certification within the Cleveland ARTCC
  • Have previous staff experience in a VATSIM ATC facility or virtual airline

This event will feature all of our three major airports, including Detroit Metropolitan (KDTW), Chicago O'hare (KORD) and Minneapolis-St Paul (KMSP). Join us for a night on Saturday January 13th (2300-0400Z / 1800-2300ET / 1700-2200CT), as we provide 5 hours of full ATC services. Bring out your jets and turboprops for some fun regional flights. D21 is a major TRACON including Detroit Metropolitan International Airport (KDTW), but also smaller Class D airports like Willow Run (KYIP), Oakland County (KPTK), our Canadian airport Windsor (CYQG) and much more.

Join us for a night, as we staff up all Detroit TRACON. D21 Pressure Hours will take place between 2300Z-0330Z (7:00PM-11:30PM EDT). See you there!
