Title: Color Profiles
Post by: Kyle Gallagher on May 07, 2010, 05:51:28 PM
Continuing a thread form the VATSIM Forums, does anyone have any cool or realistic color profiles? I'd like to see what anyone has. Also, if possible, please post a screenshot of it also. Thanks!

zipped up is what I have. Its a standard DSR scope that was reviewed by Nate Johns to be pretty close. I've seen some ZAB scopes recently and I think i've made an accurate attempt.

Yup. Very cool. I have only color profiles of DSR being Blue, but I have heard of them also being Dark Gray like this one. Here is my DSR color profile:

To Mods: Do you want to keep a "tally" of all color profiles at the top?

DSR can be manipulated from a pure black background to an almost light navy blue, upon preference of the controller. I personally prefer a bluer tone.

Here's my:

Again, DBRITE can be changed from a really bright green to a black, based on controller's preference.

Yup, it's based upon when STARS was installed at that facility and last upgraded.  My facility got it in Oct/Nov of last year and we have STARS R18.

Anyone have any documentation on when STARS was installed in each facility and what color scheme correlates? I might be asking too much but it's worth a shot.

Just to chime in about DSR (and clarify the background color discussion as well).

Yes, it goes from pure black to an RGB blue value maxed out around 80 or so.  No other colors are available for the background.  I hate and abhor the blue hued backgrounds, but that's just me.  I want max contrast.

The data blocks on the scope are some intensity of pure yellow.  No green at all.  The subtractive opacity of the data blocks causes them to have some greenish hue to it on some occasions, but when the DBs are turned up to full intensity and compared to a pure yellow draw object on the scope, they are identical colors.  The font has something to do with it too... it's thicker in real life than the single pixel type font in VRC.  Some scopes in real life are jacked up and look different color-wise than others, but that's just the reality of the equipment in case people are comparing what they see on ARTCC visits.

Everything else from the stored video map is drawn as some shade of gray.  It is possible to draw independent objects on the scope in varying intensities of Red/Green/Yellow/White as well, but this functionality isn't present in VRC.

Nate,

I've since switched to the Gray DSR profile that Alex Ramos had.  I have also heard that that is what ZBW uses.

Same treatment, this time for STARS TCW R19 (I'm not 100% on the history trails being green instead of blue in this revision - r/w input would be great here!)

Anthony,

C90 uses ACD real world. Just grab that color profile (I think it's in one of the posts above) and I'd recommend using that with STARS radar mode. Same is used in SoCal as far as I know.

Anyone know the colors for MIA, TPA, PBI, or NQX? (I'm assuming already that RSW is ARTS, but I might be mistaken.)

I know they're STARS radar. I guess the question I'm asking is what colors do they use for that radar type. Cause, as we've already discussed, there are different colors for STARS.
