Events / [01 Jun 2025 1800-2100z] Visit Cedar Point!
« Last post by Jonathan Johnson on March 16, 2025, 06:38:13 PM »
The start of the summer season is officially here--You know what that means: an afternoon out the Roller Coaster Capital of the World: Ohio's Shining Star, the Pearl of Lake Erie, the one, the only, Cedar Point! Tame the largest and most fearsome steel beasts like the Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Top Thrill 2, and the brand-new Siren's Curse, which have continued to push humanity's thirst for thrill further and further, classic favorites like the Blue Streak, the Corkscrew, and the dueling Gemini, and if the heat gets too much, Breakaway Bay is just a splash away in Cedar Point Shores!
But with any summer attraction, the ride queues are bound to get long--quick: the fastest way to beat them is by air! Cleveland Hopkins and Toledo Express are the most convenient for commercial passengers, but just across the bay from Cedar Point in the town of Port Clinton lies the small, untowered Erie-Ottawa airport, which might prove an interesting option for GA-oriented thrill seekers looking to be first in line!

Event starts at 1800z

Events / [14 Apr 2025 2330-0200z] DUNKS with the CAVVS
« Last post by Jonathan Johnson on March 16, 2025, 06:19:54 PM »
Unexpectedly starting the season 12-0 and able to keep up the form all season, the seemingly invincible Cleveland Cavaliers have come out of nowhere to rock the basketball world as they charge into the playoffs as the team to beat in the east. The last time the Cavs were this good was the title era of LBRON and KYRIE; could it finally be Cleveland's year again a decade on?
But the quest for the banner will be perilous: the title-dearth yet sports-loving Cleveland crowd has numerous foes yet to face. Many good teams in the east have made the postseason, none-the-least the technically gifted Celtics present an immense stoneworks in defense of their title along the path to the finals, where dastardly opposition like the dangerous Thunder or star-studded Lakers might await to joust over the title. Only the bravest knights and their aerial steeds may apply as retainers to the kings on the court as they aid the hunt for their crown.

Event starts at 2330z - 0200z. More to come shortly!

Events / [04/04/2025] Friday Night Ops Downunder
« Last post by Vi Jackson on March 15, 2025, 12:07:52 PM »

VATUSA in partnership with VATPAC invites you to Friday Night Ops: Downunder! Join us as we light up the skies between Sydney, Adelaide & Brisbane on Friday the 4th of August (Saturday morning Downunder).

Event Details:
Friday Night Ops is a weekly event run by VATUSA; normally visiting places all around the United States. This time around, Friday Night Ops are coming to the land down under within the famous 'J-Curve'. Fly anywhere between Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane from 2300z on the 4th to 0300z on the 5th (1000-1400 ADST).

Flight Planning:
In Australia, flight plans are filed in the ICAO format. SIDs & STARs are not included in the filed flight plan. This will be provided by ATC on contact with clearance delivery (for departures) and with the Centre controller prior to top of descent.

Pre-Departure Clearances (PDCs) are used in Australia. Pilots are required to readback PDCs to the delivery controller. However, when reading back the PDC you do not need to read back everything. Just the SQUAWK, DEPARTURE PROCEDURE, RUNWAY and BAY.

[PILOT] "Sydny Delivery, Qantas 436 with PDC readback."
[SY_DEL] "Qantas 436 g'day Sydney Delivery, go ahead with PDC readback"
[PILOT] "Qantas 436 is cleared to Brisbane, OLSEM1 departure, runway 16R, squawk 4457; bay D3"
[SY_DEL] "Qantas 436" or "Qantas 436 contact ground 121.7 for push"

If you do not receive a PDC, you can request airways clearance on VHF with the Delivery controller. However, you are required to readback the entire clearance by voice.

[PILOT] "Brisbane Delivery, Qantas 535"
[BN_DEL] "Qantas 535 g'day Brisbane Delivery, go ahead"
[PILOT] "Qantas 535 request clearance"
[BN_DEL] "Qantas 535, cleared to Sydney via SANEG flight planned route. SANEG 1 departure runway 01R. Climb via SID 6000(ft). Squawk 4457 departures 133.45"
[PILOT]  "Cleared to Sydney via SANEG flight planned route. SANEG 1 departure runway 01R. Climb via SID 6000(ft). Squawk 4457 departures 133.45, bay 18 Qantas 535."
[BN_DEL] "Qantas 535, when ready for push contact ground 121.7"

Events / [05/10/2025]Cargo Shuttle: Back to Americas - Bring a Flower Edition
« Last post by Roy Parsons on March 14, 2025, 10:36:10 PM »

After some time out of service, our Cargo Shuttle is back to reconnect the airbridge between Bogotá and Miami! In this special edition, we’ll carry a symbolic shipment in honor of the floral industry—a key sector of Colombia’s economy and one of its main exports to the United States.

Operating cargo flights out of El Dorado (SKBO) presents a real challenge due to the airport's high elevation (8,360 feet above sea level). Heavy aircraft like the Boeing 747, MD-11, or Airbus A300 experience significant performance penalties, requiring precise planning of weight, thrust, and takeoff configuration to ensure a safe departure. Are you ready to take on the challenge and bring your aircraft to its destination? We can't wait to see you there!

Date/Time: May 10th, 2025
Departure Window - 1900z-2200z
Arrival Window - 2300z-0200z
Event Field(s): SKBO, KMIA
