General Discussion / Crossing South America: Christmas Edition – 2020
« on: December 13, 2020, 01:13:06 PM »

Christmas is here, and right after you get to celebrate it with your friends and family (virtually, we recommend), VATSUR and VATSIM Brasil invite you to come and celebrate with us too, while we provide air traffic control all over South America to make your journey with us one of the best flights of the Holiday season!

VATSUR and VATSIM Brasil are excited to invite you to the first edition of "Crossing South America: Christmas Edition", an event where you will actually be able to Cross South America, and go over the Andes and the Amazonia, while enjoying our professional air traffic control all over your route, going from the North to the South of this big piece of land.

Departures will start at 1400z (SPJC departures start at 1530z), and we will be departing aircraft for a full three hours, to the best of our airports' capacities.

We are going to be featuring four departure and four arrival airports, so you get to choose the one you prefer the most!

Featured Airports

Departure Airports:
•   Simon Bolivar International Airport – SVMI.
•   El Dorado International Airport – SKBO.
•   Mariscal Sucre International Airport – SEQM.
•   Jorge Chavez International Airport – SPJC. (Departures from SPJC will start 1 hour and 30 minutes later.)

Arrival Airports:
•   Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport – SCEL.
•   Ingeniero Aeronáutico Ambrosio L.V. Taravella International Airport – SACO.
•   General Cesareo L. Berisso International Airport – SUMU.
•   Salgado Filho International Airport – SBPA.

Bookings can be found at: https://vatsur.realops.simgoodies.app/events/crossing-south-america, we have over 290 slots available to be booked. But even so, bringing some extra fuel, just in case, can't hurt.

Note: The booking system will not assign a callsign, you are free to fly with any callsign you want. The routes will be posted through the forums and social media on the days before the event.

And do not forget to keep an eye on our social media, so you do not miss any news! Also, during the event, we will be receiving screenshots and sharing them on our social media.

News / Our New Region Managers!
« on: November 28, 2020, 11:57:00 AM »
Please join me in welcoming Cody Cochran, Ryan Parry, and Paul Semeran to ZHQ Staff!

Cody will be the Southeastern Region Manager, VATUSA8.  Cody has been ZOA DATM since January 2019, and he was also ZOA DATM for approximately a year in 2014.  Cody’s leadership skills and knowledge of west coast traffic flows will come in handy as he leads a challenging east coast region such as Southeastern.

Ryan will be the Western Region Manager, VATUSA4.  Ryan has been ZOA ATM since 2015 and has a firm grasp of the issues facing the Western Region.  The fact that Cody was also chosen for a Region Manager position demonstrates Ryan’s skill in selecting and developing leaders.  Ryan and Cody have been a great team, and I look forward to having them work together in the Region Manager roles.

Last but not least, Paul Semeran will be the South Central Region Manager, VATUSA5.  Paul was San Juan FIR chief and was most recently ZTL’s TA.  His training and operational skills will come in handy in South Central thereby making his relationship with Meg invaluable.

Welcome!

General Discussion / Happy Thanksgiving!
« on: November 25, 2020, 11:41:16 AM »
I am thankful to be part of a welcoming community where I can share my passion for aviation.

I am especially thankful to those who go over and beyond by being a Divisional or ARTCC staff member.  The network does not run by itself.  I appreciate your dedication and the time you put into VATUSA to ensure its success.

I wish to thank controllers and pilots!  VATSIM enhances the flight simulation experience because at its core, its all about a human connection between two hobbyists --- a controller and a pilot.  It's the relationships that make this hobby so different from many others.

Wishing all of you a safe, healthy, and Happy Thanksgiving!
