One question that I've been asked a number of time is why the teamspeak/discord information for each artcc is such a closely guarded secret. Currently this list is only available to ATMs/DATMs. Why not all staff? For that matter, why not all of vatusa? I understand the necessity of keeping the general public (ie non-vatsim people) out of our servers but most of the servers I've been to have public channels for socializing and member-only channels for controlling. Especially as more and more artcc's move to discord, why not open artccs to neighbors near and far, and pilots?

I don't think another platform for communication is going to solve any of the problems described above. The cultural change we seek is behavioral, not technological. To DK's original point, we need to talk to each other more. A friendly ATC chat while controlling can do wonders to improve relationships between artccs because it is a personal interaction. And it's through these small personal interactions that we develop an understanding of each other.

Ok, going back under my rock now.  See y'all after winter. :D

VATUSA and VATCAR has joined forces to present a crossfire between
Atlanta and Jamaica. Fly between Atlanta (KATL) and one of Jamaica's two
international airports (MKJP/MKJS) on Sunday, November 4th, 2018 from
1800Z-2200Z (1pm-5pm EST) for an afternoon of world class ATC on VATSIM!

The Atlanta ARTCC (ZTL) is now accepting applications for Events Coordinator.

Duties
*Reports to ZTL Senior Staff (ATM, DATM) and the VATUSA Events Manager/VA Liaison (VATUSA5)
*Creates, plans, manages and executes events to generate pilot and controller participation while promoting ZTL
*Coordinates with neighboring facilities to arrange support for ZTL events and arranges ZTL support for events held by neighboring facilities
*Maintains active relationship with virtual airlines, coordinates for VA-hosted events affecting ZTL's airspace
*Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote events and ZTL
*Attends staff meetings as called by the senior staff
*Maintains active online presence on the ZTL website, TeamSpeak, VATUSA Forum and the VATSIM network

Core Requirements
The successful candidate will:
*Be an active member of the network in good standing.
*Maintain active membership and home controller proficiency and currency.
*Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
*Be able to work in a team environment.
*Have no disciplinary history or record of unprofessional behavior.
*Have experience with a raster graphics editor such as Photoshop or GIMP.
 
Highly Desired Skills and Abilities
Atlanta is particularly interested in persons who:
*Are loyal to ZTL and its mission and are self-motivated and proactive.
*Will be an active controller both during events and normal daily operations.
*Are able to demonstrate the qualities of understanding, honesty, patience, maturity and restraint.
*Can bring a verifiable level of experience sufficient to ensure the ability to manage events in a complex aviation environment.
*Understand and commit to a high level of participation with the knowledge that the position requires considerable devotion and commitment of time.

Please note that special considerations will be given to:
*Current, loyal, long-standing Atlanta home controllers
*Members with a high online presence
*Members with previous staff experience
*Mature individuals

Only those who understand the requirements and can make the appropriate commitment should apply.
Candidates can expect an initial evaluation of their application after which they MAY be contacted for a comprehensive interview.

Atlanta is looking for a motivated individual that possess a high degree of energy and commitment to serve as the Facility Engineer

Job Requirements:
•   Maintains and updates sector files for all approved ATC client software, updating at least every AIRAC cycle.
•   Maintains vATIS configuration files.
•   Maintains POF and alias files.
•   Coordinates with adjacent ARTCCs as required, specifically relating to frequency issues.
•   Ensures established LOAs are fully represented within sector files and other procedures.
•   Performs other facility related work as directed by the Senior Staff at ZTL.
•   Serves as a Leader to coach and motivate controllers while upholding a culture that builds exceptional internal and external pilot experiences.
•   Supports and participates in initiatives that give back to the VATSIM community.
•   Supports the recruitment, retention and development of a diverse range of talented people.
•   Holds self and others accountable to high performance standards while providing pilots with positive experiences.
•   Ability to listen to feedback and take constructive action.
•   Maintains an online presence on the VATSIM server and ZTL TeamSpeak.
•   Attends periodic meetings to report on ARTCC activities.

•   Must abide by the minimum required hours as dictated in the ZTL SOP.
•   Applicants must have a thorough working knowledge of VRC and vATIS, at least a good knowledge of vSTARS and be familiar with vERAM and Euroscope.

•   Must be available for regular correspondence (via the primary means of e-mail), as well as routinely checking VATUSA forums and other outlets for official notices.

•   Previous experience either as a FE or in assisting an existing FE.
•   Ability to create Tower Trainer/ACSIM files for training purposes.
