General Discussion / Re: Unable to login
« on: August 23, 2019, 02:35:38 PM »
Hi all,

I recently passed my ATC basic exam and joined the Houston ARTCC. However, I am unable to continue the process by logging in on the Houston ARTCC site. I waited 24 hours but continue to have the issue when I enter my VATSIM credentials, it takes me back to the front page of the site and I am unable to enter my profile to schedule training. I am stuck in a vicious cycle of trying to login and being brought back to the main page with a login button.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nik-

I only received notification from the VATUSA system of your transfer to ZHU about 19 hours ago.  Due to real-world obligations, I was only able to add you just a little while ago to our local site roster, which should now enable your ability to log in and schedule training.

If you have any additional trouble, just let me know.  My email address is [email protected]

Ray,

Very clever and clean work here, thank you for making this available.  I am a new VATSIM user as well as virtual VFR student pilot, so the program also has great educational value for me.  Thanks very kindly, I am working my little computer pretty hard but I will explore to see if I can bring it active into the software suite.  Likely also a read time saver.
I wonder if keyboard commands could be used to navigate and use the program also, as part of the reason that I use text is that I may not have a microphone available and also want and need to save bandwidth on my minimal net connections.  Thanks for all that you have done and are working on here.

Bear in mind that UK and US phraseology have significant differences.  If you plan to primarily fly in the US, you may want to not use a UK-based tool as a primary learning aid.

I’m getting back into it also after a long hiatus. I use to be a member of ZTL. How do you go about rejoining?

Select the facility you want to join (such as ZTL) and go from there.

Are you a XP11 simmer and suffer with low frame rates?? (unable to maintain 20FPS)

Do you want to fly in the event and not effect spacing of other aircraft!??

Well download this plugin!

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/26517-autospeed/

Better yet, download this:
https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/43281-3jfps-wizard11/

Rather than running a groundspeed hack, this one will adjust your rendering on the fly to actually maintain a workable framerate.

I've been running AutoLOD to take care of it when it gets upset (since even the best machines will disagree with XPlane at the worst opportunity while on VATSIM) and it seems to take care of most of it.

It looks like this one may be a bit more dynamic and automagic, though.  I'll have to check it out!

Thanks for the great ATC from the folks at ZFW ARTCC on getting the traffic in and out. It was pretty busy at times. The only complaint which I heard on the channel which wasn't directed at me but to another pilot was from DFW ground. According to the charts the 747-8 is restricted to the west side and can NOT taxi over the bridges for the 17's. The pilot tried to explain this and the ground controller popped an attitude and said if he didn't like it, he could disconnect. I've been on Vatsim for almost 20 years now and this was totally uncalled for by the controller. To make matters worse it was live on twitch. And you wonder why some folks avoid Vatsim. If your going to control ground, please know the restrictions. Certain airports have clear taxi routes, DFW, SDF, etc that clearly state 747-8 approved routes. If not then why bother make this as real as possible experience.

Depends on what you're reading.  The FAA airport remarks only state "B747-8 AND A380 OPS ONLY AUZD ON RYS 18R/36L AND 18L/36R, CONTACT ARPT OPS FOR ADDNL INFO."  The Jepp charts may say more, but not everybody has them, nor can we expect all pilots and controllers to have or use them.

That being said, do you know where the aircraft started?  I can tell you we've run in to similar where somebody spawned in a location the aircraft couldn't have gotten to with the weight restrictions, then got uppity with us when we gave them taxi instructions that were "invalid" -- but there were no alternatives unless he wanted to respawn elsewhere (and he didn't) :-)  In this case, for all we know, the scenery could have predated that remark, anyhow.  Would it still be valid, then?  We don't give people too much trouble for having outdated ORD or CLT scenery, so why would we do it here, when they're missing entire runways.

Remember, guys, sometimes there have to be compromises made for usability and to work around situations that crop up.  Not everything can exactly mirror real-world.

We have a large number of the in-person attendees accounted for.  If anybody is in Houston and we haven't made contact, please let me know at [email protected]!

We'll be in the room in about a half hour for initial setup, and we should be ready for workstation setup at ~5PM.

All-

Quick update since I know we have folks wondering about the hotel situation:  We have a venue selection made, but I'm waiting for the final contract with the hotel to come back for signatures before sending out the details.  Block rooms will be available at the event hotel for $89/night from Thursday the 20th through Sunday the 23rd as part of the deal.

For those who are looking for approximate location, the hotel is on the Northwest side of town, along US 290, just inside of Beltway 8.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me.

Well, if they pass both of us over, let's just claim technical issues  8)

Nothing I've seen besides the initial "we received your interest" stuff.

I didn’t even get an email like this unless somehow I accidentally deleted it. When I go to the AFV website and login now it says they’re received my application though, so I assume it went through 🤷‍♂️

When I initially submitted mine, I got an HTTP 500 error back from the webapp.  If I go back, I get that message at least.  No other confirmation, though.
