Sorry I've been away at Aircraft Dispatch School so I had no idea this was gonna be happening. Is there a chance an opening is still available? Would love to learn more and see Dhruv and Ryan work their magic! If not, will those who missed the cut because of real world obligations be able to see this training course on youtube or something in the future?

Thanks,

John

Up-to-date AFCAD is already completed and will be available a day before.
Do they instantly change the runway markings into taxiway markings? I would assume they need to do at least some work taking longer than a day to convert the runway to a taxiway.

Im not entirely sure what you are trying to get at by that remark but it will be the same process as when 14L/32R was renamed to SS and then H1 and now H2. A big yellow X will be the first step, then they will cover all runway related markings on the surface including holdshort markings. Then they will replace them with taxiway markings. After that they will slowly change all runway related signs into taxiway signs. By the end of the year, all of the runway north of 9R will be completely demolished. This was why T1 was relocated to just north of Taxiway E... so that there is still a possible route to get to the MX ramp without literally shutting down the flow of traffic from 9L/27R since T is always southeast bound.

That being said, I decided not to go that route so in my AFCAD 33 will be COMPLETELY redone into a taxiway.. not just removal of rwy markings and and a yellow x added. It looks very nice and clean so I dont think their will be any issues on how it is portrayed to the simmers who use it. Regardless if it did have markings on it or not closed means closed and you cant take off of a closed runway even if they have not painted the big yellow X yet... even prior to that it still can not be used for anything other than taxiing.

Now then, 33 was hardly ever used it was for the most part only a taxiway in the final stages of its life. Its a mess but they definitely have a plan and know what they are doing. Very happy this disaster of a runway is finally gone since they barely ever used it such as during nighttime quiet ops or that odd day in a blue moon when the wind was howling out of the NW. cant wait for 27C/9C to be built.. basically gonna have to do the AFCAD from scratch unless you want the runway to go right into the MX ramp and ARFF building lol.

Cheers.

Just a heads up... 33/15 will be CLOSED STARTING March 29, 2018. You are a day late with this event. It will already be SS and no longer a runway. Up-to-date AFCAD is already completed and will be available a day before. Just thought I would give you a forewarning some people will have it as a taxiway for the event.

Virtual Airlines / Simulated SWA
« on: February 09, 2010, 11:41:16 PM »
Ladies and gentlemen:

We are pleased to announce the arrival of a new Virtual Airline on the market... Simulated Southwest Airlines. Yup, we're back and better than ever!

http://simswa.org

We are currently hiring new pilots.

This virtual airline mimics the daily operations of Southwest Airlines but is in no way affiliated with said airline.

*Destinations: 68 (Within Contiguous USA)

*Fleet size: 547 (B737-3H4 / B737-5H4 / B737-7H4)

*Headquarters: Dallas, TX - Dallas Love Field.

Description: Simulated Southwest is a realistic operator with a friendly environment. We are very different from other VA's out there. For instance, instead of having a manager at each Southwest CrewBase, we have only a couple (starting off only ONE) CHIEF PILOTs, who are in charge of ALL the bases in their geographic division.
As well, we have SIMSWA certified maintenance workers who keep ALL of the fleet's aircraft up to date.. VOR checks and all that good jazz. For events, (Controllers your gonna LUV this) we avoid huge fly-in's. Rather, we plan to have operations where pilots will have specific departure slots (we wanna help out the TMU abit) and depart ALL out of one airport to many destinations.. OR Arrive from different destinations to ONE specific airport.

On top of all that, we just do what we do best - SPREAD THE LUV! So, in conclusion, if you are looking for a friendly and fun-filled airline.. SIMSWA is for you.

Mozy on down to HQ in D town and prepare for your interview. "You are now Free to move about the Country."

Hello All:

I completed and passed my C1 certification exam at the VATUSA exam center 2 days ago.  I passed the exam with an 88%.  There's one issue though.. I still have not been updated in the system.  It still shows me as an S3.. please tell me what I need to do.

Thanks,

John M.

The Flight Deck / Preferred RWYs question

Guys, as a VATSIM pilot where can I find information on the preferred takeoff /landing runways in KJFK, KEWR, KIAD and KBOS normally used by VATSIM controllers?

Thanks,
Igor.
Staten Island, NY.

for ZDC: http://zdcartcc.org/ZDC_runways.htm

BE ADVISED: 1L/19R in this system is the NEW 1C/19C at IAD...

In case: (A) -> Arrival ONLY
             (D) -> Departure ONLY

Thanks Alex, and everyone else! You've convinced me. I'll be purchasing the PTT.

AJ, I as well use the Plantronics H31 starset headset.. I decided to go all in and get the Plantronics SHS2355-01 PTT USB ADAPTER as Harold talked about before.

http://www.headsetsdirect.com/plantronics/h31.html

This is the one I use... I DEFINITELY recommend getting the Pink ear tubes... WAAAAY more comfortable than the default cone shaped one..

http://www.headsetsdirect.com/accessories/06448-00.html

As well, every controller has to show flair right? Not everyone wears/holds there PTT the same way.. right?  In other wards... maybe you wanna show some team spirit? Maybe some Houston Texans? Whatever the case may be... you also might enjoy getting a SPECIFIC color[div align=\\\'right\\\'][/div] voice tube... http://www.headsetsdirect.com/accessories/17593-70.html  (From what I can see there is no blue or red...)

GOOD LUCK!

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / VRC's Flight Strip Bay
« on: July 20, 2009, 10:03:47 AM »
Also,  I'm not sure if this is a good spot to put this but..

Is there ANY CHANCE we could possibly put "Low Altitude Alert" (LA) Into the next version of VRC? It would really help.

Honestly, the thing about flight strips IMHO... yes they are essential, but if you don't need to use  them, then don't.

I use STARs because PCT (POTOMAC TRACON) uses ARTS IIIe radar so STARs is the closest to that. Now, if you use ARTS radar mode, then you really don't need flight strips since the information is on the data ttag (secondary radar).

I wish we could get flight strips a little more like real world... for instance, we have a seperate place for the DEP and ARR airports.. as well, if we could get the P time it could help us.. especially with non controlled fields...
