I'll be away (out of country) on vacation from 2/15-2/23. I won't have a computer, and am not totally sure about whether or not email will come through on the phone. Bob will have the helm while I'm away.

Only about 20% certain, but it's possible that I'll also be leaving a few hours after I get back for international business travel on 2/24, returning 3/3.  I should have a computer and email for that trip.  Will advise IF that becomes a reality.

Post by: Don Desfosse on February 14, 2014, 04:08:36 PM
It became a reality.  I have 4 hours and 53 minutes between the time I land from vacation until the first leg of my business trip takes off....  (Land 12:37am, Depart 5:30am!!)  Let's see....

08 minutes to taxi to gate
30 minutes to get bags
30 minutes to get to car
45 minutes home
60 minutes to get sleeping kids from car to bed, move luggage from car to house, and pick up the suitcase for the trip
45 minutes to airport
15 minutes to park
30 minutes through security to gate
30 minutes board before flight leaves
------------------------------------------
4:53

That leaves me a whopping ZERO minutes slack time or time to sleep in the terminal....  Yeah, cool....   Ugh!

Headed out to Asia again.  Leave Sat 3/22, return either 3/31, 3/30 or 3/29.  Trying to make it back for CTP, but that will be a stretch, I'm afraid.  Bob will be at the bar serving drinks to the staff while I'm away.  Tip him well.

Team USA, I'll be away from 18-27 July.  I'll have some internet access on my phone, but won't be around my computer.  Tom's at the helm.  Try to do a better job cleaning after yourselves this time....  I don't know what the hell went on in the offices when I was away 2 weeks ago, but the animal control officer warned about the toxicity in goat droppings and said the call to remove the camels was a bit over the top!

Team USA, I'll be away on vacation with the family, swimming with dolphins in Florida, from 28 Dec - 05 Jan.  I'll have some internet access on my phone, but won't be around a computer.  Tom will be at the helm.

I appreciate the fact that Animal Welfare didn't have to get called in this time after my last vacation in July.  But I was really disturbed by the alleged lack-of-clothing-spiked-eggnog-induced-poses that some of you performed during my winter vacation last year.  Let's just say that the security footage of the ones -- especially the ones in my office, ahem -- was "illuminating"....  Try and keep it decent.  You never know when one of our security guards will be posting that footage online.....

Be good to Tom; I want him coherent and not in a straight jacket (again) when I get back.

My best wishes to you all for a safe, healthy and happy holiday season!

You take more time off than the president.  That needs to stop.  This position is vital to the operations of VATSIM and as such vacation time is not authorized, and overtime is required on your exempt salary.  Get back to the emails! :P

Gone for a week, and I spent much of the first day languishing at KLAS while SWA mechanical'd one airplane and kicked us all off, then it was eleven hours before actually getting airborne again. Now I've always liked Vegas, but I'd prefer not to spend my time in the airport. I should have used that time to get a tattoo saying "NEVER travel during Christmas week!!  8)

Out of the country on vacation with my family 2/13-2/21.  No computer with me, and not sure how much electronic access I'll have.  Which, since I'll be playing on the beach with my kids, should really be "none" :) ! Tom's in charge.  As usual, if you are going to raise a ruckus, clean up after yourselves, no recordable incidents regarding livestock, and make sure the cops and the New York Times don't find out about it....  Mark, per your request, I've upgraded the Knob Creek in my liquor cabinet to Knob Creek Select.  I'm no longer naive enough to think that you guys won't raid it....  Just don't fill the empty bottles with that cheap sh*t and try to hoodwink me into thinking you didn't....   :)

I'll be away on travel 6/29-30.  I'll respond as quickly as I can, though it may be July 1 (or later).   Please make sure you send routine support requests through the ticket system, NOT via email, as they'll normally get handled faster, especially when I'm away.

I'll then be away on vacation, celebrating both summer and the freedoms of our country, with my family from 02 - 10 Jul.  Tom will be away much of that time as well.  Just realize that our normal "lickety-split" response times might be diminished a bit during that time.  All the best for a safe, healthy and happy Independence Day!  Please remember those that have served, and continue to serve, to protect the freedoms that we and our loved ones enjoy.

Away on business travel 01-15 Oct.  Very little internet access where I'll be.  Mark Hubbert will act on my behalf from 01-04 Oct, and Ira Robinson will act on my behalf from 05-15 Oct.  Remember, I have an intricate security system with multiple quantities of multiple types of sensors, cameras, and intricate alerting capability guarding the liquor cabinet in my office.  Hawton set it up, so you know it's impenetrable.  Better system than most banks and museums have.  So don't get any ideas.  Besides, Ira's new and wants to get to know people, so tell him you want to get to know him over a drink....  :)

Unlike Don, I have not had time to set up a sophisticated alarm system. However I have a friend keeping an eye on the place for me so if you stop by please be sure to keep an eye open for Bruno. And I will apologize now for his behavior.  He doesn't have much of a sense of humor  >:(

Actually, no.  The benefit package for VATUSA employees requires that you be employed for one year before you are eligible for any of the many(?) benefits the job offers.  The accrual period begins at the end of your 13th month on the job. That's a little known fact, and I can probably get in trouble for telling you this, but this is why they keep it a secret until after you have accepted a position here. Otherwise they probably wouldn't be able to attract any quality applicants, only those who just want to hold a title.    ;)

Ira will be here, he's not eligible for leave accrual, yet.

No, I'm not. However, having finagled an invite to a company sponsored conference, I know that if I use a couple of days on both ends as travel days, I can honestly say that I will be away on company business from July 27 to August 7.   That makes it a paid holiday!

At the Boston Tea Party 8/18-20, then leave on international business travel through 9/4.  I will have no computer and extremely limited internet via phone where I am.  Ira will be in charge.  Make sure you clean up after yourselves!

I am going to be out of town leaving Wed Oct 4 and returning Tue Oct 10 to change my clothes, and then leaving again on Oct 12th.  I will be traveling so I expect to have minimal access to email through my cell phone until such time as I have access to my computer again. I estimate that to occur on or about Oct 23rd.

I will be leaving both my office door and the liquor cabinet unlocked.  I found out on my last trip that it's cheaper to replace just the booze then to have to replace the booze and both locks!

Remember that it's polite to take your empties with you and for the last one out to turn off the light and close the door behind them.

If you have any questions or problems that cannot wait I suggest you email your local Air Traffic Director or look up the answer in our Knowlegebase.  The directory of Regional Directors is on the front page of the web site, as is the Knowledgebase.  Between the two any question you may have should be something they can help you with.

Little did you know that we already emptied it.  Can you restock before you head out?
