General Discussion / vERAM Tutorials
« on: December 13, 2018, 08:47:04 AM »
I am beginning C1 training and I have found a new love, vERAM. Are there any specific advantages when using vERAM rather then VRC when working center. Obviously both software's have there advantages, and disadvantages. As well, are there any good video tutorials about vERAM, and its features? My instructor has thought me a lot about how to use vERAM, but I'm interested in its specific features that VRC does not have.

General Discussion / Mode C Transponders
« on: December 09, 2018, 08:59:40 PM »
There is a lot of talk about realism on Vatsim lately. So why do all pilots have to have their transponder in mode-C when in the class G, and E airspace, and clear of the mode C vail? As an approach controller its more realistic when I can’t identify a primary target on my radar scope. The only thing a Mode C transponder does when in G, and E airspace is displaying the altitude, and speed of the target. I find it more interesting when I must vector aircraft around the primary targets as if It was real life.

The Control Room Floor / ARTCC Requests
« on: September 08, 2018, 09:50:23 AM »
Good morning,

I am currently flying from Dallas Love (KDAL) to Atlanta (KATL). Memphis center logged on and sent me a contact-me. My filed cruise altitude is FL390. I am over 200 miles from my top of descent (T/D) and the center controller instructed me to descend and maintain FL330. Upon questioning him on why I needed to descend to FL330. His response was "Per Atlanta Centers request". Now keep in mind, Atlanta Center is currently offline. I am looking at the real flight I am following and they have just started there descent, but they are also about 30 mins ahead of me. I responded back to center informing him that I would not be able to descend to FL330 due to the fact that I would be using my reserve fuel into Atlanta. So now I am cruising at FL370. Is there any reason why I would be instructed to descend so early? I do understand that there are certain LOAs, and SOPs. But this is a first.
