Ray Smith has an updated AFCAD on Avsim, as well as updated AFCADs for many other airports around the world too. He does fantastic work.

Sent out to ZOA members. A bit shocking that some would actually put that in their remarks.

General Discussion / Thank you, Veterans!

Saying "thank you" will never be enough, it doesn't bring those lost back, it doesn't heal the pain so many have, and it doesn't repay the sacrifice so many have made, but it is the least we can do, so thank you all. Words can't describe the amount of respect I have for those who serve this great country.

You too Don, thank you for your service!

What Matt said, but for weather you can't go wrong with Opus. If you're into realistic flight planning then check out PFPX.

General Discussion / Our Teamspeak Environments are in Shambles

Call me the minority here but why not let sleeping dogs lie. I've been in a quite a few teamspeaks myself and it seems that this type of behavior is very, very rare. Is it appropriate for an ARTCC's management to openly encourage flat out bashing another facility? No.

However, everyone has been guilty of talking bad of another facility or controller and if you want to play the higher than thou card, look me dead in the face and tell me you have not said  a single unkind word about a bad pilot. It is human nature to express our opinions and frustrations. It is unhealthy not to do so.

A facilities teamspeak is their home and they should have the right to do what they please there. If you don't like what you are hearing, then either don't listen or leave the teamspeak channel. It's not up to a teamspeak visitor to come in and demand that things be changed or tattle on them for what they're doing in their own space. It's akin to going into a chain smokers house and telling them not to smoke in their own house because you chose to come and visit., then running to their employer to tell them that they smoke.  It doesn't need to be regulated, or taken away from the facility. Our teamspeak is where we as a huge group of friends hang out even if we're not using the network.  It is a core tool that has helped foster the relationships I've made on the network first, and a coordination tool second.

Just because a lot of us have been guilty of talking bad about another facility or controller doesn't make it ok, there is no justification in that. I agree that we can say whatever we want in a private teamspeak server, but when it is an ARTCC server there are lines and limits that shouldn't be crossed, especially by a staff member. It is one thing to express an opinion about somebody, and an entirely different thing to bash somebody. An ARTCC ran server will have people in it that may not take kindly to bashing, and it may make them wonder what is being said about them when they aren't around. Sure they can move to another room, and sure they can disconnect but that is only dividing the ARTCC rather than uniting it. I've personally witnessed a handful of people leave an ARTCC because of this, to make it worse they aren't even on Vatsim anymore. Being disrespectful is a great way to kill off an ARTCC's culture and ultimately turn the ARTCC into a no mans land.

If you want to go out and purchase your own TS server for your and your friends and bash everybody you can, then go for it, but I don't see how it would be alright to do on an ARTCC server.

Events / Calling any ZAK certified controllers
« on: June 01, 2014, 03:19:16 PM »
If there are any ZAK controllers around that want to help with the Cross the Pacific event on June 21 please let me know. VATASIA and myself have tried multiple times to reach out and have been unsuccessful in getting any sort of reply from those in charge of the Pacific Oceanic Partnership. We really need ZAK controllers, so if you're interested please email me at training[at]oakartcc.com or the VATASIA Region Director Anastasios Stefopoulos at a.stefopoulos[at]vatsim.net

For info on Cross the Pacific please go to www.vatasia.net/cpe

Thanks!

Congratulations, Ryan!  C1 is a tremendous achievement!

Now, the network hopes you'll work a little bit more and pay it forward....  Hope to see you pursue and earn your I1 when you are ready!

That is the next goal, for sure

Virtual Airlines / SnapJet Airlines End of 2010 Announcements
« on: December 05, 2010, 11:50:59 AM »

San Jose CA (AP) – SnapJet Airlines (SJA) executives held their first press conference since the summer today in San Jose announcing several new things at SnapJet. Chief Executive Officer Ryan Parry was excited to announce the success of the recently started service to Hawaii featuring their three used Boeing 757 jets, calling it “a gamble that is paying off”. He went on to acknowledge SnapJets entrance into the Global One Alliance which took place in October.

SnapJet Airlines has reached agreements with Airbus to purchase ten Airbus A321 aircraft that will be powered by IAE V2500 engines just like their A319 and A320. “The A321 will offer us a chance to fly more passengers on high density routes, as well as open up vacation destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean. Our pilots are already checked out on the Airbus A319 and A320 making the A321 cheaper to operate than our 757s which will remain strictly on Hawaiian routes. “said Parry. The A321s are due sometime in 2011, but no official time frame has been set.

The SnapJet development team was please to announce that Orlando-Sanford will be SnapJets newest hub and will cater to east coast destinations, as well as Mexico and the Caribbean in the future. SnapJet has begun downsizing its San Jose hub and will now officially refer to it as simply a “focus” city. “San Jose just doesn’t offer us what it use to, it is time to look at other cities for profit.” Said SnapJet development team leader.  SnapJet executive offices will be moved to Las Vegas Q1 of 2011.
