It is with great pleasure that I announce Jeremy Peterson has been promoted to the Events Coordinator position! Jeremy has been a dedicated member of ZNY since 2016 and he brings extensive knowledge of traffic management and event planning to the ZNY team. Jeremy is already in the process of planning our next live event, so stay tuned for updates on that topic soon!

News / Ethan Dean is ZNY's New TA!
« on: January 10, 2018, 06:50:50 PM »
It is always a sad day to see the departure of one of our Senior Staff members, especially one that I have had a close personal relationship with for many years; but when there is a beginning, there must also be an end. It is with regret that I announce the departure of Kyle Perry as our Training Administrator. I want to thank Kyle for his loyal service over the years and wish him the best of luck with his real world career ambitions going forward.

And with that... it is with great pleasure I announce the promotion of Ethan Dean to the Training Administrator position! Ethan has been an extremely active Mentor and Instructor for a very long time, often times answering the most training requests BY FAR of any other staff member. Not only that, the training he provides is always consistent and of a high quality. He has some great ideas on how to improve the New York training system, which I will let him describe to everyone in a future email!

Join me in congratulating Ethan in his new role!

I would like to introduce Jagard Strong as the new New York ARTCC Events Coordinator! Jagard started his career with VATSIM in 2010 and joined ZNY in 2012. After a break, he rejoined in 2014 and never looked back. Jagard currently lives in Ontario, Canada, and holds a private pilots license. He has many interests such as traveling, golfing, hockey, and VATSIM. Jagard has also been a member of our training staff for over a year, and enjoys teaching others about the hobby. He has many interesting ideas for future events with ZNY, and is eager to get the ball rolling.

Join me in congratulating Jagard!

News / ZNY has a new Training Administrator!
« on: June 02, 2017, 09:51:07 PM »
I would like to start off by thanking Derek Vento for all his hard work over the past 8 months as the Training Administrator. His teaching style was admired throughout the VATUSA community and his energy about ATC was contagious. It is sad to see him go, but real world commitments always take priority.

With every departure we usher in a new arrival and, on that note, I would like to introduce Kyle Perry as the new New York ARTCC Training Administrator! Kyle should be no stranger to anyone at New York. He previously served as our Events Coordinator, the LGA Facility Coordinator, and a VATSIM Instructor. Kyle joined VATSIM and the New York ARTCC in late 2008 and has been a member ever since. He attended UND from 2012 and graduated in May 2016 from the CTI Program. He currently holds a PPL, instrument rated, and has about 235 hours.

Join me in congratulating Kyle!

News / ZNY has a new DATM!
« on: February 16, 2017, 08:59:06 AM »
Please join me in congratulating Karl Moberg for being selected as ZNY's new DATM! Karl is a very senior member of ZNY; he brings both a wealth of knowledge and experience to the administration team. Karl joined ZNY in 2007, first became a Mentor in 2009, and then an Instructor in 2010. In 2013, Karl stepped away for personal reasons, but is back and is now on the Training Staff again. Karl has served as a VATSIM Supervisor Team Leader and, in the real world, he is manager at a telecommunications firm in Norway. I am very excited to have him on the team!

News / Changing of the guard at the ZNY Events Department
« on: November 09, 2016, 06:39:17 PM »
There has been a changing of the guard at the ZNY Events Department.... Kyle Perry has been selected to be the next EC! As many of you know, Kyle has been a member of the New York ARTCC since 2009 and an on and off Instructor for a number of those years. In the real world, he is an Instrument Rated pilot and a CTI Grad from UND. He has aspiring hopes of becoming a real world ATC. Please welcome Kyle Perry to his new position!

As with any new addition, there is a person leaving. Please join me in thanking Jacob Kruse for his service and wish him the best of luck in his new opportunity. He did a great job!

News / ZNY Senior Staff fully staffed again!
« on: October 29, 2016, 02:47:17 PM »
Over the past few months, Mike and I have been hard at work advertising and interviewing for the missing Senior Staff positions. I am pleased to announce, our hard work has paid off and we are now fully staffed once again.

Recently we hired on Derek Vento as Training Administrator and Prithvisagar Shivaraman as Facility Engineer.

With this announcement, I am please to introduce Alex Dent as Webmaster.

Alex hails from New Zealand and has extensive experience with web programming and design. Right now, we have tasked Alex with fixing some internal issues, but eventually he will start to tackle some of the other issues that have been a nuisance to many of our controllers for quite some time.

I would like to ask ALL controllers, including staff, to NOT approach Alex to fix problems at this time. Instead, please submit your respective issue via the issue tracker found on our website instead.

In closing, I would like to thank our previous webmaster Dimitri Trofimuk for his hard work over the years and dedication to ZNY.

Join me in congratulating ALL the new staff to the team!

The Control Room Floor / New York ARTCC Pre-Departure Clearances
« on: August 02, 2014, 08:51:03 AM »
The New York ARTCC is pleased to announce the release of our long anticipated Pre-Departure Clearance (PDC) software. This is arguably the most realistic and fully functional PDC software on VATSIM. Come depart JFK, EWR, LGA, PHL, TEB, or HPN in the next few weeks when there are controllers online and you will experience the new software for yourself!

Go to http://nyartcc.org/prc and scroll to the bottom of the page to read a training module on the software and how it works!
