News / New Events Coordinator at ZME

I am pleased to announce that Seojun Oh has been appointed to the position of Events Coordinator at the Memphis ARTCC. Seojun is looking forward to fulfilling the duties and challenges of his new position.

Colton Albonetti has been our Events Coordinator for the past 16 months. Colton decided to step down from his EC duties to focus on his real world activities. I wish to thank Colton for his excellent service throughout his tenure. Colton will be helping Seojun transition into the new role over the next few weeks.

News / Memphis Hires New Training Administrator

Please join me in congratulating Chase Prickett on his appointment as the new ZME Training Administrator.

Chase joined ZME as an S1 2020-11-27, was promoted to C1 2021-04-30, served as a Mentor, was promoted to I1 and assumed the role of ZME Training Specialist until his promotion to I3.

I wish to thank Christopher Carnett, our former TA who did a great job but had to relinquish his position due to increasing real world responsibilities. Fortunately, Chris will be remaining with us as an Instructor.

Best of success to both Chase and Chris.

The Memphis ARTCC (ZME) is now accepting applications for the position of Training Administrator!

The Training Administrator is responsible for ensuring the success of the ZME training program. We're looking for a knowledgeable, professional, energetic and dedicated person for this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
*Oversees and actively develops training program
*Understands and appropriately integrates VATSIM, VATUSA and ZME policies into the training program
*Manages training staff, including recruiting and selecting mentors and instructors
*Reports directly to the ZME Air Traffic Manager, the ZME Deputy Air Traffic Manager and the VATUSA Division Training Manager
*Maintains and implements training materials and documents
*Tracks the progress of student controllers
*Quickly and accurately responds to training-related inquiries from students, mentors and instructors
*Serves as a Senior Staff member assisting with making decisions for the ARTCC

Required Qualifications:
*Be an active member of the VATSIM network in good standing with no previous derogatory marks
*Currently hold a rating of Controller (C1) or higher
*Have held a rating of I1 in the VATUSA Division for at least 30 days at any given time prior to hiring date
*Capable of working well in a team-oriented environment
*Strong knowledge of the United States Airspace and Air Traffic Control systems
*Well-versed in the current VATUSA training policies and procedures
*Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
*Current I1 rating
*Previous or current ARTCC Senior Staff experience
*Supervisory or management experience in virtual or real world
*Real world aviation experience

Please join me in congratulating Garen Evans who has just been appointed as the new ZME Webmaster.

Garen joined ZME in September 2010 and has held previous staff positions as Webmaster and Air Traffic Manager.

He has also developed and managed several web sites including vZME, the Gander Oceanic Air Traffic System and Fedex Express Virtual (fdxva.org).

Position Posting: ZME Seeks a Webmaster

The Memphis ARTCC (ZME) is now accepting applications for Webmaster.

Duties:
The Webmaster reports to the Air Traffic Manager (ATM) and maintains the ARTCC’s website and other web-based software.

*Attends periodic meetings, as necessary.
*Maintains an active online presence within the ZME ARTCC and on the VATSIM network.
*Advises ATM of technical issues involving ARTCC technology.
*Develops and implements policies and procedures for operation and maintenance of the ARTCC web and data systems.
*Coordinates with ZME and other ARTCC staff to mitigate and manage frequency and automation problems.
*Maintains the ZME TeamSpeak/Discord server and associated applications.
*Frequently checks and responds to emails and contacts in a timely manner.
*Maintains the existing website at vzmeartcc.org.
*Gathers member requirements and develops a new web site using modern frameworks and technologies.

Requirements:
The successful candidate must

*Be a member of VATSIM in good standing
*Be a member of the ZME ARTCC, or willing to transfer upon selection
*Hold a VATSIM Tower Controller (S2) rating or higher
*Be proficient with modern web frameworks, technologies, programming languages and techniques, including PHP, HTML, MySQL, and CSS.
*Maintain active status by logging minimum number of hours in accordance with ARTCC policy
*Be able to work well in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Skills & Abilities:
The successful candidate shall

*Possess a high degree of commitment and motivation
*Possess skills with Laravel5+ and similar platforms and the VATUSA APIv2
*Be familiar with with APIs for other applications (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

Priority will be given to candidates who

*Have previous Webmaster experience
*Have previous staff experience in a VATSIM ATC facility, or virtual airline
*Have experience with software programming and/or web development.

Please join me in congratulating Cole Ferraro on his appointment to the ZME Facility Engineer position.

Cole has been working in the background to produce new ground maps that more closely resemble real world airports.
He has lots of new ideas on improving the facility files to make the controller's job easier and give our pilots even better service.
Cole is a Probationary I1 and a real world pilot and flight instructor.

The Memphis ARTCC (ZME) is now accepting applications for the position of Facility Engineer.

Duties of the Facility Engineer (FE)
• Reports to the ATM and DATM
• Maintains and updates sector files for all approved ATC client software, updating at least every AIRAC cycle.
• Maintains vATIS configuration files.
• Maintains POF and alias files.
• Coordinates with adjacent ARTCCs as required, specifically relating to frequency issues.
• Ensures established LOAs are fully represented within sector files and other procedures.
• Maintains the ZME Quick Reference Card and Frequency Lists.
• Performs other facility related work as directed by the Senior Staff at ZME.

Requirements for Applicants
Applications are invited from candidates who meet the following requirements:
• Applicants must hold a VATSIM S3 rating or higher.
• Applicants must in good standing with VATSIM, VATUSA and their home ARTCC with no disciplinary history or record of unprofessional behavior.
• Applicants must be a member of ZME or be willing to transfer to ZME upon selection.
• Applicants must have a thorough working knowledge of VRC and vATIS, at least a good knowledge of EuroScope and be familiar with vSTARS and vERAM.
• Applicants must have maintained at least the minimum hours required by their home ARTCC for the previous 3 months prior to the application closing date.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
The following skills and abilities will be considered favourable to an applicant:
• The applicant is able to provide evidence of commitment and self-motivation.
• The applicant has previous experience either as a FE or in assisting an existing FE.
• The applicant has demonstrated the ability to work well as a part of an established team.

Duties

* Assist the ATM with general operations and management.
* Monitor the day-to-day activities of the ARTCC.

Duties
*Reports to ZME Senior Staff (ATM, DATM, TA) and the VATUSA Events Manager/VA Liaison (VATUSA5)
*Creates plans, manages and executes events to generate pilot and controller participation while promoting ZME
*Coordinates with neighboring facilities to arrange support for ZME events and arranges ZME support for events held by neighboring facilities
*Maintains active relationship with virtual airlines, coordinates for VA-hosted events affecting ZME airspace
*Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote events and the ZME ARTCC
*Attends staff meetings as called by the senior staff
*Maintains active online presence on the ZME website, ZME TeamSpeak, VATUSA Forum and the VATSIM network
