General Discussion / Hello everyone
« on: May 21, 2009, 03:49:05 PM »
Ohad,

Thanks for taking interest in our division! I would recommend taking a look into the ZLA Pilot Certification program (www.pilotcerts.laartcc.org/page/Home) if you're interested in learning the procedures for flying in the USA. Let us know if you have any questions!

Sorry to see you go, Jeremy. It was great working with you recently, and I'm impressed by your ability to manage the amount of staff vacancies you had in the Western Region. Best of luck to you with your future plans!

Confirm you are using your VATSIM ID and your VATSIM password to log into VRC. If you need to have it sent to you, you can go to the VATSIM homepage and select "Member Services".

Loyd,

Welcome to VATSIM! If you simply want to fly, you don't need to do anything except sign on and takeoff. The tests are only a requirement for ATC.

Gary,

Try the form again. I'm not seeing any transfer request on your file.

Looks confusing to me, too... Email your Training Administrator, Harold Rutila, and let him know your concerns.

I just took a quick glance at Denver's SOPs and found something you should probably read over, and ask the training staff there to assist you. It appears the situation you are upset about may have been a misunderstanding on your part, depending on what the aircraft in question was intending to fly. If you were on ground, it appears you should be issuing a code of 12xx.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE [/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]VFR Pilots operating at Towered airports for circuits (T/G) or in Class B airspace will be
given a 12xx squawk code.

VFR Pilots operating operating outside the Class B airspace or at non-Towered airports
shall squawk 1200.

VFR pilots outside the Class B requesting Flight Following or practice IFR Approaches at
KDEN shall be given a 52XX squawk code[/quote]

You can transfer on or around April 2nd, 2009.

The best way to handle situations such as these would be to contact the Training Administrator or Air Traffic Manager privately with your concerns. If I am understanding correctly, you haven't done this? I know the staff in Denver is more than willing to answer any questions you may have regarding your training, and their procedures. If you still have problems, I'd be glad to assist you to the best of my ability, but you would need to contact me privately as well. My email address is on the staff page and in my forum signature.

General Discussion / Looking for work

Terry,

Miami ARTCC is seeing a push to open the military fields again, such as Navy Key West or even Homestead. If you live in Florida and want to control in that general area, I highly recommend Miami. You'll even get me as an instructor (if that's a good thing, lol)

Terry,

I tend to control and fly in the ARTCC where I currently live. I live in Miami, FL so I am a member of the Miami ARTCC and most of my online flying occurs in Florida since I prefer GA aircraft, and I fly real world around the Southern Florida area when I get the chance.

As Mike said, it will ultimately end up being your preference. I've found Miami to be a perfect fit for me, but you may enjoy a place with more/less traffic, or a different pace of learning. I'm sure every single ARTCC will accept you, since we were all newbies at one point! Let me know if I can help you make a decision.

The Control Room Floor / Rating Update

Nick,

There is a topic pertaining to situations similar to this one in the Training Admin forum, which your ATM/DATM/TA all have access to. Hope that clears this up

The Control Room Floor / Rating Update

Andres,

Thanks for taking the time to prepare your suggestion. In a way, this already exists. VATUSA provides the "New Members Click Here" link which is an easy step by step process to get assigned to an ARTCC. It should then be the ARTCC's job to provide an easy step by step training syllabus, which many have you just need to check their policies section. New York has an excellent training manual that outlines each step that needs to be taken, assuming it is followed

It would be difficult for me to create a welcome guide as you have described because each facility does things a little bit differently. That's why it is left up to each ARTCC to lay out the road map for you.

I have an idea or two that I'm currently considering whether to act on or not. If I choose to do so, I'll get in contact with you to discuss your skills and experience.

Thanks!

The following are the S-1 requirements which have been outlined in the VATUSA Controller Ratings Guidelines document that all TA's agreed upon and then confirmed again in our meeting back near the end of last year. This is the "Student Level Practical Exam Evaluation" form. You can find the entire document in the staff training forum below, most recently in the "Friendly Reminder" post.
