You are reading 5.4 correctly. It is also important to note though, VATNA Transfer and Visiting Controller Policy allows for the establishment of local rules on the acceptance of visiting controllers and a checkout procedure to ensure compliance with the rating competencies listed for each rating under GRP.

Quote
Acceptance as a visiting controller within a particular sub-Division is a
privilege, thus visiting controllers shall abide by all requirements, testing, and
procedures specified within that particular sub-division.

News / Albuquerque has a new Air Traffic Manager!
« on: October 24, 2017, 10:55:55 PM »
Please help me congratulate Austin Robison who will be stepping up to the Air Traffic Manager at ZAB! In addition to being a long-time member of ZAB, Austin currently serves as the Training Administrator and Webmaster. Austin has some great ideas and we're looking forward to seeing ZAB continue to flourish under his leadership.

Also, please help me give a big "Thank You!" to outgoing ATM, Tim Reeves. Tim has served as a staff member at ZAB since 2011, having been the TA and DATM prior to his 5 and a half year stint as ATM. Tim's leadership will be missed and his example will not soon be forgotten. Enjoy retirement, Tim!

General Discussion / Re: Improper use of airline callsign?
« on: October 04, 2017, 08:12:50 PM »
The companies I see that do VFR and IFR flying using their identifier:
Wright Flyer Air Service (WRF)
Warbelows (WAV)
Frontier Air (FTA)
40-Mile Air (MLA)
Ryan Air (RYA)
Lynden Air Transport (LYC)
Ravn Flight (RVF)
Bering Air (BRG)
Hageland Aviation (HAG)

My personal favorite for VFR and IFR flying: University of Oklahoma "Crimson" (OUA)  ;)

Boomer!

That being said, OU operates a fleet mainly made up of small Piper aircraft, so you won't see me using this callsign when flying my 737. On the other hand, there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone wanting to do that if they chose to do so (I can't tell you how many times I've seen a Southwest Airlines C172 on the ground at Dallas Love) - it's all up to you as the pilot how "realistic" or "unrealistic" you want to be. Chose your favorite callsign and enjoy your flight, Captain.
