Cornell has been a fixture here and a reliable staff member for as long as I can recall. It's always sad to see a good man go, but he certainly has paid his dues and served VATUSA above and beyond what he was asked to do.

Use of the interphone and override functions is certainly realistic, acceptable and in some cases maybe preferable, but it's more a matter of what the practice is at the facility you control at, rather than what you might be told here. In the absence of a local policy or practice, you may find that some controllers dislike being overridden or hailed on the intercom, some are fine with it, still others aren't clear on how to use it. I would suggest you check local policy and/or poll the folks you control with.

I've had disconnects with both of the USA servers this week as Ric mentioned. Another thing I've noticed is that FSInn will not change to a new server unless it is currently disconnected, at least for me. I used the UK server last night and had no more difficulties.

I *believe* you must first transfer from VATCAN to VATUSA before you can select an ARTCC, and I think that has to go through either your director or VATUSA's. Not much help I know, but I think that's the situation, at least it used to be.
I'm sure someone with the right info will be along soon.

ZAK as I understand it is a stand-alone facility, for now. When the new, multi-sector combined facility is complete, it will include much of the airspace in the Pacific including ZAK, and be administered by a FAB consisting of two individuals from each of the member regions, which are VATUSA, VATPAC and VATNZ. Each of these has operated its own Oceanic airspace in the past; with this system as Andrew said above, controllers certified for one will be certified for the others, and each member will certify its own controllers. ZOA has no direct involvement, again as I understand it.

If you retired today (please don't) you would go down as one of the greatest data techs that VATUSA has ever had. You've done a masterful job in getting all this sorted out and working again, and over a weekend at that! Everyone on the system owes you a debt of gratitude.
