Virtual Airlines / Southwest Virtual is looking for ACTIVE pilots!
« on: April 03, 2010, 08:13:50 PM »
AJ I believe knows about being respectful to each other on the forums, if he doesn't he needs to take a look at it (CoC A1). His criticism of the other SWA's (I think we're up to 3 now?) claims (ex: most complete flight schedule) is strong to put it mildly. To say this airlines fails in comparison isn't an attack on a person but rather the airline. If he had said something directed at Mike (ie: John Doe fails in comparison to Jane Doe) then it'd be a different circumstance.

There are no rules against creating multiple variations of a real-world airlines as far as a VATSIM/VATUSA stance. Unless you get into copyright issues but that is beyond the scope of these forums.

As is the case here most of the time people find the flaws in the other airlines of the same name, especially when claims are made that this version is better than the other. While VSWA has been around for quite a bit and has the benefit of experience to climb to the flight level they are at today it does not negate or diminish this latest variant from being enjoyable for some.

Virtual Pilots will ultimately look through the airline and make a decision whether to apply or not. For some the lacking items compared to others may drive them elsewhere, for others they may be a-ok with things and not leave.

Point being, that there's another airline on the block that flies the Southwest colors, it's success lies entirely with it's staff and pilots and if anyone wants to check them out the links at the top of this post.

General Discussion / VATSIM VA Partner Audit Manager Position Opening
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:27:43 PM »
Perhaps the line, don't feed the trolls applies here, what turned into a position posting has turned into a flame fest.

Might I suggest a mod strip the commentary to a seperate thread and leave the posting as the only item?

General Discussion / Need File

Hi Ryan,

Unfortunately we cannot direct you to the file, as distribution of the software is against their copyright/EULA etc.

VATSIM also does not allow this type of request.

Best suggestion I can offer is to check a used game store to see if they have a copy for low cost, contact Microsoft (at one point they would be able to ship just the #4 disc at cost), or look at several disc tools on the market in an attempt to seal the holes.

Regards,

General Discussion / How do I obtain a cid?

Hmm, it should be the same ID and password as you use on the VATSIM Network. Does it give you any error message?  If so can you copy+paste it here

I am trying to sign up for vatusa so I can start training but I figure out how. On the webpage it says click here to get started but then asks for my vatsim cid. I have a vatsim account but that info will not work. Please help!

Hi Rick,

The CID it is asking for is your VATSIM ID # you use when you connect to squawkbox / fsinn etc. if you are a new user it is likely starting with a 1.

Let me know if you have any questions and i'll try to help.

General Discussion / BOG Meeting Minutes Feedback/Update
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:49:13 PM »
Thanks for the update David.

Being in the world of media we deal with board type meetings on a regular basis at least government boards.

Any publically elected governing body at least in Arizona, must maintain a transcript and/or recording which becomes public record and discoverable under a FOIA request.  These meetings must also be open to the audience, although speaking requests are 'queued' and may or may not be granted depending on the agenda if it provides a 'call to the audience'. Anything that goes into executive session is usually moved to a different room where the board and/or any relevant counsel or personnel is present to discuss the agenda item.

VATSIM as you pointed out is a private organization, I believe the confusion lies within CoR which alludes to similiar wording used in the 'Open Meetings Law' standard in the US which is applied to public boards/entities.

More detailed minutes are a welcome solution I think, a recording or being able to attend would be nice but the latter causing an issue depending on the attendance and size.

Again, thanks for the update!

Jason...    He is the third member to join VATSIM and has held various staff positions before, he's been on VATSIM longer than anybody else on these forums.

He was in the initial batch of persons processed from SATCO to VATSIM , hence why i'm 138 (they are mostly in alpha). Not to slight his qualifications but to point out there are many who have been around as long as him if not longer.

Though annoying, it did accomplish something.  I am sure that Jason's constant hammering of policy 5-05 is finished now that  the policy has been removed, as it would had it been revised or enforced.

Thanks

Nope it hasn't finished... it simply has changed to further hammer the pipe (Bryan), it seems like no matter what Bryan does Jason finds a new hammer to use on the pipe?

Thank you Bryan for taking the time to do this. Perhaps it will allow us as an organization to move past the issue that has been repeatedly brought up.

Thank you Bryan for tackling not only the duties of RD but also DD for USA1. I'd venture to speak for the majority in agreeing with you "it gets done when it gets done".

Lest I be accused of "creatively editing my post"...

Change the following sentence FROM:

TO:
How about the thread regarding the RNAV departure prohibition in ZAB in the forum below?  I believe the ZAB ATM SHOULD have the right to keep it as real as HE wants.  My opinion is that requiring pilots to get, and comply with real world NOTAMs is a bit "over the top".

JV

Re: ZAB no ones requiring the pilot to get real world NOTAM's. We do base our decision using such but we politely inform the pilot that the route of flight is invalid and provide an alternate. We don't tell the pilot to go get the real world NOTAM's. We also don't usually go with any other NOTAMs. However this specific one has been ongoing for several years now and is an issue of traffic management. Especially on VATSIM where the experience of the pilot can vary, mixing inbound and outbound aircraft on the same arrival can become a problem.

This comes up maybe once every few months and is a very minor issue. 99.9% of the time when it does come up the pilot gets a different flight plan with no issue.

Because IVAO has killer software?

Because IVAO has better documentation?

If it's charts and such that point is moot, as far as documentation on how to get up to speed and flying or controlling both sides have about the same from the searches i've found.

As has been pointed out, overall VATSIM I think has the most coverage outside of Europe.

If you do some research you'll find IVAO and now IVAO-Aero had and I imagine still have "drama" and "infighting" it's just not public. VATSIM hasn't had a meltdown yet with the CEO running away with the "keys" to the domain name for example hence the new 'Aero' side of things
