Events / Re: Please reconsider single-facility FNOs...
« on: September 14, 2023, 12:48:07 AM »On a separate topic, one additional thing I appreciate is the placement of "placeholder" events on the calendar indicating in general terms what FNOs are on tap. For nutjobs like myself who literally plan what sorts of flights I'll be doing earlier in the month based on what events are coming up later in the month, it's good info to have. Thanks sincerely for that.

Hi Robert,
I understand the argument against single field FNOs, and I feel for the pilots last night that encountered heavy delays.
The change was made last year to allow single fields after consultation with facilities. I think it is important to note that there have been around 10 single field/facility FNOs in 2023, and most of those have not seen delays of more than 30 minutes. These types of FNOs are doable post-COVID, and I do not think one night of severe delays should cause us to rethink everything.
There were flaws in the planning and execution of this event, not talking about controller performance, and we have debriefed those flaws and will fix them for the future.

VATUSA is picking up shop and moving south for this edition of Friday Night Operations, as we visit Ezeiza (SAEZ), Santiago (SCEL), Córdoba (SACO), and Concepción (SCIE) on August 18, 2023. The wonderful South American ATC will be online from 2300z to 0300z.

On July 8th is another VATSIM First Wings!
Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you!
At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them.
For this edition, we will be flying in North America. Fly between Little Rock (KLIT) and Charlotte (KCLT), departing either airport from 20 to 23 UTC.
Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/. If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop.
These events will from now on be held on a regular basis, with one edition occurring on the second weekend of each month. To allow everyone to participate, regardless of their timezone, the location of the event rotates every month, passing through all corners of the World.
