On Saturday, January 27th, join the Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center as we present the Phoenix Open Fly-In, featuring P50 TRACON.  Golf fans from around the country will be flying in to the greater Phoenix area to attend the Phoenix Open.  While the airlines bring most of the fans into Phoenix Sky Harbor [KPHX] and Mesa Gateway [KIWA] airports, the business jets and other general aviation aircraft will be screaming into Scottsdale Airport [KSDL] and the surrounding fields.  Come on by for the Tour and visit our many general aviation airports.  As always, VFR pilots welcome!

(Center, that is!)  We'll be staffing up Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport [KPHX] and Albu-Turkey International Sunport [KABQ] for your flying pleasure during this 5 hour event from 2200z - 0300z.  See you there!

Join the Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center on Sunday, October 8th, as we present the 2017 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!  The event takes place at the Albuquerque International Sunport (KABQ) and Double Eagle II Airport (KAEG).  Come join in the Fun in the Sun from 2000z-2400z (1300P, 1600E).  We hope to see you floating on in!

Saturday, August 20, 2016, 1700z-0100z, 1200 Local - 1800 Local

Get your kicks on Route 66!  On Saturday, August 20th, join the Albuquerque, Chicago, Fort Worth, Kansas City, and Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Centers as we team up to present Fly Route 66.  Established in 1926, U.S. Route 66 runs from Chicago to Los Angeles [KLAX], more than 2000 miles all the way.  After leaving Chicago [KORD], stop into St. Louie [KSTL]; Joplin, Missouri [KJLN, GA Traffic Only]; Oklahoma City [KOKC] (looks so pretty, you'll see...); Amarillo [KAMA]; Albuquerque, New Mexico [KABQ]; Flagstaff, Arizona [KFLG]; and on to Los Angeles [KLAX].  The event runs from 1700z - 0100z, and staffing will be provided at each facility between 1200 and 1800 local time.

I would love to take credit for this, but I've never called anyone captain on frequency in my life and we have one Instructor who routinely does.  After comparing stats for that day, assuming you were flying as SWA568 KPHX-KABQ, you were flying with Jim Covert.  We'll pass along your compliments!

Events / [Apr 9, 2100z-0100z] Thunder In The Desert

On Saturday, April 9th, join the Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center as we present Thunder In The Desert.  We will be featuring our major Air Force bases, including the Albuquerque International Airport [Kirtland Air Force Base, KABQ], Luke Air Force Base [KLUF], Cannon Air Force Base [KCVS], Davis-Monthan Air Force Base [KDMA], and Holloman Air Force Base [White Sands, KHMN].  Bring your fighters, your bombers, your helicopters, and your tankers.  Come fly a screaming overhead maneuver, depart on an unrestricted climb at full afterburner, fly a TACAN approach, a HI-ILS, request activation of an MOA, participate in live fire exercises in one of our many Restricted Areas, accept MARSA and participate in aerial re-fueling on an active AR Track. 

It is important to note that while anyone may fly military aircraft, per VATSIM Policy [VAA & VSO PPM 05/2015 Section 1.7] only members of an approved VSOA will be allowed to participate in special operations.  Pilots flying military or special operations aircraft while not a member of an approved VSOA will be restricted to Civil Procedures.  Civilian general aviation and commercial carrier traffic always welcome!

Our controllers will be available from 2100z-0100z [1400P, 1500M, 1600C, 1700E].
