KDTW will be the featured facility for this training class. If you are unfamiliar with the airspace it is recommended that you review the charts.

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / VATUSA Refresher Class - Approach
« on: November 21, 2019, 10:17:46 AM »
This event is for both new and veteran TRACON controllers to learn sequencing and spacing in the TRACON environment.

Audience
S2 controllers training for their S3.
All S3 and higher rated controllers.
S2's not training for their S3 at this time and below are encouraged to watch the recording, but may still come but due to space availability may be removed to accommodate others.

About the Instructor
Bradley Tice is currently a Detroit TRACON controller. He has extensive experience in the en-route and terminal environment and has worked for the FAA since 2015.

Course Overview
he big question now is why should you attend this class? In this master class, we will cover speed control, recognizing and deconflicting ties, stacking procedures, and basic sequencing with vectors to final. Whether you are a veteran approach controller or are just starting to work approach controls, this class will give you some good foundational tools to use as you keep controlling.

Check back on 12/8 as I will be posting which tracon we will be using in the master class. It will be helpful for you to review some basic airspace and procedures prior to attending the class. The more you know the better controller you'll become).

General Discussion / Re: a short introduction

I keep forgetting not everyone has GSX, you can utilize that to automatically move yourself to the gate after runway exit. Though I do not know how JAWS usable the GSX interface in the sim is.

Sarah,
As someone who is low vision, this hobby allows me to experience something I otherwise am unable to do IRL. Anything that can be done to help you enjoy it is important to everyone.

I would recommend connecting at a gate and after completing preflight and getting your clearance request slew to the active runway. When you exit the runway after landing to request to slew to your desired gate. I know for me taxing is somewhat difficult as I cannot well see the signs.

Josh,

Give https://www.vattastic.com a try for that. It should be JAWS or other reader accessible . . . I hope

To ensure we are all on the same page here, the slide has been further limited to only ASDE-X/ASSC facilities with links to a list covering such.

News / VATUSA Training Helpdesk is now LIVE
« on: September 17, 2019, 07:11:39 PM »
VATUSA is proud to announce the introduction of a discord based generalized training support system staffed by instructor rated controllers. This Discord is moderated and content must be kept strictly to general training questions, anything facility specific must be directed to your home facility training staff.

Common categories we are expecting to deal with:
  • 7110.65 and phraseology questions
  • Weather questions
  • Best practices

When signing on to the Discord please use your name or CID and facility (i.e, John Smith - ZAE (for academy) or 1053581 - ZDC).

Please limit your questions asked to one a day, if you need to ask a follow-up question the trainer assisting you can allow you to bypass slow-mode to ask further, just DM them please.

Also, please remember that we are all volunteers and may not be readily able to get to your question but will do our best to get to them as soon as possible. Once again, no exam-based question will be entertained but a more generalized question that may lead you in the right direction is welcomed if you are that stuck or confused.

Please DO NOT share this link. Inappropriate usage of this Discord will not be tolerated.

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / Re: Can I get my S1 test reassigned?
« on: September 07, 2019, 03:48:39 PM »
Jeffrey,
The exam auto reassigns three days after submission. We do not recall-assign early outside of technical issues.
