The Control Room Floor / Re: NASR NAVAID ISR Generator

I had this same problem with another guy.
His Powershell is out of date and it is not downloading anything.
Had it downloaded anything, you would see a version number next to "GitHub Version:"

What version windows are you running?
What version of Powershell do you have?

Your right, it should only take a couple of seconds up to maybe 10 seconds. When the BATCH is originally launched, does it say that your BATCH is out of date? Can you send me a screenshot of the first Screen you see and then then the screen for where you type in the effective date but don’t press enter, just send that screenshot?

This Batch File will create a FIX list in Sector File Format (.SCT2) for the user to easily copy/paste into their own custom Sector File.

Feedback welcome.

Feedback Welcome

THIS BATCH FILE WILL CREATE AN IN-SCOPE REFERENCE (ISR) for all Airports from the FAA NASR 28 DAY SUBSCRIPTION DATA for any Virtual Radar Software that utilizes this format of alias commands. (i.e. VRC by METACRAFT)

It will also create an Airport list in Sector File Format (.SCT2) for the user to easily copy/paste into their own custom Sector File.

SCT2: If the airport has an ICAO ID, the ICAO will be used for the airport ID.

ALIAS: If the airport has an ICAO ID, the ICAO will be used for the alias syntax.

Congrats Paul!

It feels good to handover the keys to the offices and I look forward to seeing ZLC push forward with the same momentum. After speaking with you today, I feel like that is exactly what’s going to happen.

Good luck!

The Flight Deck / Re: Controllers Don't Respond to Text

There are many, many legitimate reasons why a pilot should operate /r.  And if you fall under one of those, then please ignore the rest of this post.

If your reason for flying /r is something like "mic fright," then consider giving two-way voice a try.  It's much easier on the controllers, you'll get better service during events, and you may find the process much less burdensome than typing and flying.  Don't be afraid to sound like an idiot the first few times.  Trust me when I say it's unavoidable and we all did too. ;-)

I do fly /v sometimes I just have people sleeping at nights and don't want to wake them up but I do try to fly with voice as much as possible.

It is my opinion that this a VERY valid reason to fly /R. However, like said above, events might not be the most ideal place to do it haha

The Control Room Floor / Re: Newbie looking for best ARTCC for training

Maybe list some of the things you are looking for in an ARTCC... are you here to have fun or learn the right way to do things? Do you want a quick certification with an easy airspace or do you want to stay in it for the long run? Do you want a fully functioning website with cool
Resources or do you care more about the community and mindset? Things like that can help ARTCC members come make a case for their ARTCC based on what is important to you.

Rob, i got your email and I agree that this seems to be pilot error. Thanks for taking the time to look through all of that data!

The Flight Deck / KSLC SKEES Arrival Shortcuts
« on: August 13, 2020, 09:36:58 AM »
Pilots: We (at KSLC) have had a significant amount of aircraft this year cut HINKY out of their routing and go straight to IRRON after BOOOT. (image attached)

We use to think that pilots just willingly being negligent but given the amount of times this has happened, I wonder if it is problem with NAVDATA in some sims.

Could I get some pilots here to test FSX, P3D, X-plane 11, and then NAVIGRAPH to make sure HINKY is programmed into the route and then furthermore, could you fly the SKEES arrival and see if the FMS decides to treat HINKY as a Fly-By waypoint?

A normal clearance from ATC would happen when you are around BEARR and it would be “Descend via the SKEES5 arrival. At IRRON, cleared ILS RWY 16L Approach”.

Please send an email to [email protected] with your results.

If this ends up not being a sim issue or NAVDATA issue, this this a big problem in this area that I would hope that VAs that fly in/out of KSLC would bring light to this situation... we NEED you to fly to HINKY unless we give you a shortcut for many reason and one of them being separation... so like... the one thing we are responsible for haha!

News / ZLC Hired New EC!
« on: May 30, 2020, 10:29:13 AM »
I am very happy to announce Joshua Rogers as our new Events Coordinator!

Josh has been with ZLC since June of 2018 and has dedicated himself to pushing his training forward but not at the expense of thoroughly understanding the fundamental topics and this shows in his skills as a controller.

When reviewing our need and options for the EC position, the ATM and I could not think of anyone more suited for the task.

Everyone please congratulate him on this new accomplishment.

Josh- I can't wait to see what you do with this department. Good luck and have fun!

I don't want to add to the complexity for the good ATC people
I’m one of the ATC for the area in question and I am telling you that VFR to IFR is actually more simple than an IFR Departure. If you want to make it easier on ATC, just make sure you have a flight plan on file starting with the way point your wish to start IFR at.

Maybe I could fly to Bozeman (doesn't matter if it is controlled)
KBZN is a towered field and is therefore “controlled”.

HEZ,

Consider that these high level traffic events usually call for a lot of rerouting by ATC that would be necessary  to accommodate flows so... try filing an IFR flight plan that starts around Yellowstone... fly VFR out of SEA at 17,500 with flight following to that point at Yellowstone, then pick up IFR for the remainder of your route to DEN while airborne after you are done sightseeing.

Would get the best of both worlds and would make for a nice flight without the stresses of IFR during event level traffic until the end.

Pick up
