If anyone has any questions or comments about the new forums please post here.
Staff Member's forum access is granted every hour on the top of the hour.

I have a comment: Awesome Job VATUSA!
These forums look really nice! Nice work creating them Brian.
-
Yeah Brain, i think it was good that our forum is no longer in VATSIM. Just sort of shows that VATUSA is truly a separate organization even though we work hand in hand with VATSIM.
-
Yup nice job VATUSA.
Really like the look of 'em!

Yeah, the new forum looks great!

Nice forum, the integration is smooth and everything flows very nicely, good work.
One small thing, when clicking the header it directs you to Vatusa.net which can cause confusion and somewhat inconvenience. Maybe it could be possible to have it redirect back to the forum's main page, and have a link to Vatusa.net in the tool bar somewhere. This would clear many things up.

Rudy, Thanks for your critique...the link back to the forum 'home' is just below the banner...for now, the banner link shall remain as is.
-
I actually think that's the way it should be, because you can always click on the main forum name right below it to get back to the forums.

Great Forum. Looks very nice! Great Job!

Looks great Brian... nice job!

Nice job Brian.
-
Well done Brian, quite a pleasant surprise I must say.
-
Howdy,
It's a bit cluttered, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Any chance that we can edit topic titles also? I just made a typo in the title of my first post and I can't change it.
Cheers!

Paul in ZBW's forum once you are added to the ZBW Staff group you will be able to edit the topic titles. Normal members though can't normally do that.
-
Also,
Fast reply seems to be adding (edit) to my previous post rather than adding a new post. Is that intentional?
Cheers!

Yes, if you were the last person to reply it will automatically amend your last reply within a certain amount of time (I forget exactly how much)
-
mmm,
Not really a fan of that feature. Anyone else?
If I want to amend a previous post, then I use edit. Otherwise if it does this, posts will start to look confusing. Now, let me go back to that previous post and edit it so it makes sense.
Cheers!

Looks good guys! Nice work on this Brian!

Ok,
I see what it's doing. It's auto formatting the titles.
ie. My titles should read vZBW, not Vzbw.
Do I get to change this behaviour also as a staff member or is that your pervue Brian?
Cheers!

Its unfortunately not something I can turn off so we are basically stuck with it.
-
Can we maybe switch forum software then?
Because that is a pain in the rear end and it's a time waster.

Nice work Brian looks nice.
Question regarding the inividual ARTCC forums, although it's a nice gesture, as we have our own forums, can we get a re-direct back to our own site?
Thanks!

Please strongly consider this; the various strata of VATSIM bureaucracy are already difficult enough to navigate without seeing multiple forums claiming to be 'the ZLA forums' (just as an example). Unless you are going to mandate that each ARTCC remove their self-hosted forums and use this (which I personally think would be a big mistake), there is no need for duplication and it just creates confusion for new controllers just trying to find information and be in the right place.

I also agree.
-
I also agree.
While you all bring up valid points, VATUSA has decided that there needs to be a singular place with boards that are openly accessible for each ARTCC. Certain ARTCC's forums have many "hoops" that one must jump through prior to gaining access to their forums. Posting up links with each ARTCC's individual forums is fine but we are not going to remove a board and replace it with a redirect to yet another forum that a member must register at.

I agree with the other posters - confusing the issue with multiple forums labeled "ZAB" do not help anything.
Also, I see that "new staff members are added on the hour, every hour" or however it is put in your first post. I have yet to be granted the necessary staff access. When shall I expect that?

Is this where I point out that VATUSA is guilty of this already by deciding they needed their own forums instead of using or asking for more on the main VATSIM site?
Sorry, I'll go back to my hole now.

As I was told we asked in the past and were turned down, but that was also before both of our times.

Well the UK division also has their own forums...why can't we?
I like the new forums, good job guys!

You can. That's not the point I'm making. I'm responding to Brian's statement of not wanting 'yet another forum' linked in and pointing out that VATUSA elected to create 'yet another forum' themselves; I just found it ironic.
As I was told we asked in the past and were turned down, but that was also before both of our times.
Quite possible, quite possible indeed.
-
This is a little weird. It's like I moved to a new neighborhood but all of the familiar faces followed.
This looks very, very nice. Great job!

Otherwise, very nice!!!

After using the forum a bit more and finally having a good look around, Brian, would it be possible to change the color of the read vs. the unread folder icons? With all the other phpBB themes I'm used to using, you can easily and immediately tell read vs. unread forums. With the two shades of blue on this forum's theme, I'm finding it darn near impossible to tell the difference. I can definitely see a difference (albeit a small one) when I look at the key on the bottom, but in a forum with a lot of posts, I'm finding myself having to look at the dates and times and such.
On the other hand, it could just be my laptop. I haven't tried it on any other computer yet. Anyone else having trouble with that? It would certainly be an easy fix if there are others who are having trouble with it.

We are planning on changing those icons anyway, we just did not want to hold up releasing these forums because of those things. We will be changing them at some point in the future.
-
Sounds great! Thanks Brian.
-
Yea,
Apparently I'm one of those who elect to just do things on my own and not read the first dang topic. BIG mistake, just look at my name.
Could someone delete the ZHUEC portion of my name as well as clarify on when one can expect staff access and will this staff access allow us to add events with the calendar for approval? I know each ARTCC had its own username and password before.
Many, MANY Thanks,
Christopher

Just was able to figure out what the problem was there, you should be able to get in now.
-
Perhaps this has been asked but I have not taken the time to read the posts...
I had information on the previous forums that I did not store anywhere else such as the FNO hosts and dates and other such conversations. How can I access it?

Everything from the old forums has been copied over, once your account is updated with the correct access you will see it again.

All appears 10-4 now, thanks Brian.

The new forums look good Brian. I do have one suggestion. Any chance we can create a forum for the Facility Engineers so they can discuss sector files, also a forum for the Webmasters would be great too so they can discuss their website techie code type stuff. Gerry at ZLA said he would be more than happy to help out the other web guys with anything website related. Training has a forum, events have a forum, the FE and Webmasters are technically staff too, we should gear something up for them as there seems to be no communication between those behind the scenes guys.

That is a great. Idea I know that there is a lot of intercommunication when working on website. When I work on the Atlanta sites I often find my self emailing other webmasters to get snippets of code or just to see what the best way they implemented a new feature.
-
Everything looks good in my opinion and I agree with others who suggest that the ARTCC forums should redirect to the individual ARTCC sponsored forums that they have created.

-
Shawn, spectacular idea. I personally have never thought of that but looking now that would be a tremendous help to all Webmasters and FE's out there. The saying still goes, 'someone always knows more than you' so why not use that to our advantage.
A+ in my book of opinions.
-
So, I'm guessing the Staff forums will be integrated into here?
-
They already are...
-
What does the VATUSA staff think about the idea about the Webmaster and Facilities forum. I think that it could even be a public forum.
-
Wow awesome forums Good job guys sorry im late hehe
-
Brian,
Great work! Looks really good. I think our pulling away from the VATSIM forums makes us a little more independent.
I am still waiting on staff user rights if you could handle that please.
Shawn

Ok who is in charge of spelling?
I think our forum should be "Los Angeles" not "Los Angles"

Yes, excellent idea. I've found gathering information on the arcane world of facility engineering to be rather difficult, its sort of like a fine trade, passed on from generation to generation...without teaching resources readily available for those seeking to learn.

Speaking from the position of a relatively rookie FE, I have to agree that a centralized location for us to share information would certainly be a welcome resource.
Forums overall look great! Looking forward to seeing a strong VATUSA community develop here!
Oh, and to throw my $0.02 in, I'm also of the opinion that the ARTCC forums should redirect to their respective website forums, if applicable.

Those forums have been created already, your ATM has to send your information into me before you can get access, theres a post in our staff area about it.
As far as the redirect is concerned, that decision has already been made, I posted up my reasoning earlier, we have no intention of changing it.

Is anybody else having an issue with cookies? I haven't been able to stay logged in for more than a few hours at a time.

Yup, same here.
-
Same.

-
Seems to be working fine now from what I can tell. Thanks!
-
Nope, looks like I spoke too soon. Just had to re-login now.
-
Brian: any way to change some of the colors on the forums, example my name appears as a green color. my rank appears green..with this dark background hard to read a few replies, etc.
-
It would be nice to be able to select your own theme or colors as I find it hard on the eyes to read white text on a dark/black background.
-
For the record, I think I have figured out the cookies issue I was having above. The new forum software apparently doesn't like when you switch from one computer to another. I've verified this using multiple combinations of computers. Each time I log in on one computer, when I later go to log in on another, apparently my cookie is not preserved.
-
Bryan,
You're not the only one. I frequently switch between my laptop and my desktop, and if I use these forums on one, I have to relogin when I go to the other.
-
So what is VATUSA Staff's position on the webmaster forum idea? I would really like to help out others and also give some design ideas.
-
Sean,
It's already on here. I believe the ATMs were instructed to let Brian know who needs access. Send Brian an email or PM on here and let him know you'd like access.
-
Sorry! I lie! I never scrolled down past the ARTCC Area! Thanks!
-
Yeah, you don't want to read most of the stuff down there anyway. It tends to get messy, lol
-
I am having some problems with my FSInn, first it will not allow me to set a hot key for push to talk, also my chat will not work.
-
Mr Dennis,
have you looked at the VATSIM forum? http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=20466 (http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=20466) has very detailed instructions.
-
Hi, everyone,
Is there some sort of "Introduction" thread? Just wanted to say hi to all; I'm the new guy.

Not that I know of. Just post it under the General Discussion.

ADD ONLINE TIMES IN ATIS TAG
During "non-event" times it is a problem knowing when controllers will be on-line.
This can be solved by a controller adding his/her expected on-line times in the tag.
Obviously, if a controller has to log off, so be it. But at least there is a good faith attempt to let pilots know if they will expect ATC.
Keep in mind that GOOD pilots spend 15-30 minutes in pre-flight. If I go to VATSIM or Vantastic and see ctr and/or app guys on, I prepare my flight for that ARTCC.
Thanks
Greg

The thing is, sometimes I dont know when Im going to log off. Its a "ill log off when i get tired or bored" kind of night. In fact, thats what 90% of my sessions are.
-
Not sure about the other clients, but VRC has the .logofftime command for that very reason.

So im confused, how do i connect to a server??
