Why have an event scheduled until 0100Z but all of ABQ leaves at 2400z. That's only 2 hours and it takes almost that amount of time to fly that route when you add in clearance, departures, separation, etc. Unfortunately a lot of pilots were left hanging without ATC coverage in KZAB. Thankfully KZFW hung around to help those landing in Dallas. If the banner was wrong then why wasn't it fixed? Two hours was an unrealistic time to fly that distance.

I'm not going to get into it with you because you hold a position in ZDC. I reported where I had the problem and how we as the pilots were getting hosed because the folks on the ground couldn't work together. Your comment about letting proceed just proves there is a problem by your answer. When we question the ATC pilots are to blame.

Sir now you are saying "the folks on the ground couldn't work together" but earlier you were saying that ZDC wasn't doing the job and holding people. ZDC can't do much when PHL can only take certain arrivals per hour. I wasn't the guy in charge or controlling enroute so I can't say much, however, I believe they tried their best to stop too much aircraft enters ZDC. However, if neighbor ARTCC keeps dumping traffic into ZDC, all they can do was to hold people until PHL clears up. If you see a tree's leaves turning brown, it might not be the leave's problem.
Now let's talk about why people were entering ZDC from Atlanta but not Indy. To make it simpler, let's just say ZDC was ok with that. Here's an example. There is a highway that having a traffic jam because the exit is jammed. There's also a traffic light to control traffic on the highway. The lane with green light can get on the highway and the lane with red light cannot. Sir you are sitting in the lane waiting for the red light and complaining about the traffic light and the highway.

You guys at DC love your metaphors. Call it what it was, a mess. You can't fault the pilots who got bounced around between Indy and DC as we were cleared and following instructions from take-off to holds. By the way, I'm not the one responsible for coordinating traffic, your guys are. So if I come-on here to voice my dissatisfaction don't try to make me the bad guy because their was too much traffic. I'm sure another DC controller will chime in. Your good at that. I'm out and done replying because it's getting nowhere.

What a mess. DC Center on 133.72 couldn't even except traffic from Indy Center. Five planes had to diverted and two just disconnected because they got tired of holding for over an hour. They could except traffic from Atlanta however during my time holding as I watched planes cross over from Atlanta sectors. Indy Center had to keep apologizing to everyone.  https://prntscr.com/rx3b1w

Indy should be apologizing to everyone for not doing their part in trying to keep this event afloat - they were asked for 40 miles in trail, and they ended up with 5 MIT at the boundary to ZDC. After the handoffs were refused, they then dropped the track on planes and shipped them to ZDC anyways, which is a violation of many air traffic regulations. So, they were spun back into ZID airspace.

Don't blame ZDC - they've been doing as well as they could for an event that had more operations during this event than the last 12 hours real world.

Than maybe all the controllers for the event need to work together instead of blaming each other and having pilots fly circles all over the place for hours. Pilots are following the instructions given and were the ones getting hosed because of the lack of coordination between controllers. Sounds like a controller issue when neighboring ARTCC's cant work it out. Maybe FNO procedures need to be re-looked at due to the increased traffic loads due to real world situations. The last 3 FNO's have been like this.

General Discussion / FNO's might need to be adjusted due to traffic?
« on: April 10, 2020, 10:03:46 PM »
Due to the current world situation daily traffic on Vatsim has tripled in size. It averages around 1900+ connections on quite days. The last few FNO's have turned into traffic jams due to the large amount of traffic. What use to be 100+ arrivals during a previous FNO is now around 250-300 just on the arrival side. Not sure if VATUSA is looking at a way to improve the traffic flow by adding more controllers or adding more arrival airport during the FNO. Tonight just for Philly I saw 71 departures and 260 arrivals when I looked. That doesn't even include all the traffic for the surrounding airports.

Just throwing this out there, FNO's are suppose to be fun. I know it's only temporary but for how long nobody knows. Just making some suggestions to see if things can be smoothed out some.

Thanks for the great ATC from the folks at ZFW ARTCC on getting the traffic in and out. It was pretty busy at times. The only complaint which I heard on the channel which wasn't directed at me but to another pilot was from DFW ground. According to the charts the 747-8 is restricted to the west side and can NOT taxi over the bridges for the 17's. The pilot tried to explain this and the ground controller popped an attitude and said if he didn't like it, he could disconnect. I've been on Vatsim for almost 20 years now and this was totally uncalled for by the controller. To make matters worse it was live on twitch. And you wonder why some folks avoid Vatsim. If your going to control ground, please know the restrictions. Certain airports have clear taxi routes, DFW, SDF, etc that clearly state 747-8 approved routes. If not then why bother make this as real as possible experience.

Did anyone actually stream the SunSkyJet KDTW. I looked all night and didn’t see any of the 6 streams showcasing the scenery.

What happened last night? I flew into KPHL and ATC was incredible both in and out of Philly. You guys nailed it on spacing, departures and arrivals. It would have been one of the best managed events for the amount of traffic except for one area, KPHL Clearance Delivery.

Last night CD was a mess and you could hear it in his voice. After waiting for clearance for almost 30 minutes which I was told I was #5 for clearance 30 min earlier and was passed up 7 more clearances, the controller comes back and tells us to remain silent while he works out the clearances. Well 5 minutes go by and we don't hear anything from him. Then a few minutes more pass and he comes back and says he lost track of all the clearance orders so we had to request again. Now you have 10 to 15 planes calling back in all at the same time. And to make matters worse, he gives out a few clearances and then disconnects leaving everyone hanging and now ground has to take up the slack and he's busy also. You know he bailed due the stress because if his computer locked up he would have attempted to rejoin and help out his ARTCC during a major event. Also ground was caught off guard because we know the controllers talk amongst themselves on TeamSpeak work out traffic.

May I suggest that if your going to have a major event that you don't put a newbie on clearance. This maybe a basic position during daily operations for the new guys learning but during major events this position is the make or break point for a successful flight.
