General Discussion / VATUSA sponsored event (1 JUL 22)
« on: July 02, 2022, 07:30:05 AM »
VATUSA's sponsored "Fly American" FNO last night was for the most part (75%) a success with the exception of one of the featured airports (departure) KMIA which was not staffed at all, no GND, TWR, APP, or CTR.  There were over 35 departures out of KMIA with no controllers in site.  We at joinava dot org did our best to promote this event, reaching out to other VA's to join, and they did only to log on at KMIA to no ATC.  It was very disappointing and frankly unacceptable.  The other ARTCC's involved (Jacksonville, and DC) did an outstanding job sequencing the aircraft into Philly, and other airports in the area.  ZMA did staff up after more than half of the aircraft had already departed and into ZJX airspace.  IMHO, this was a management issue and should be addressed.  :o :(

General Discussion / Designated Training Airports
« on: December 27, 2016, 07:25:22 PM »
Not sure whether there is a place for all the ARTCC's to list their designated training airports, but I like on the new website that there is a drop down for "solo certs",  could this also happen for the training airports?

The Classroom (Controller Tips) / Solo Certs
« on: November 26, 2015, 07:13:52 AM »
Unless something has changed in the VATSIM GRP, and it hasn't been updated on the VATSIM site, solo certs have certaing requirement that I, logged on as a Supervisor have noticed that are not being complied with.  I will not name the ones publically, but the ARTCC ATM's and TA's should make themselves aware of the requirements before allowing students to log on to these positions.  If the requirements are complied with, it eliminates supervisors having to dig looking for these validaitons

Thanks, and just sayin,

Scott

General Discussion / FNO's
« on: May 29, 2015, 08:40:56 PM »
I was telling someone the other day when asked if I was going to fly into or out of the FNO this week and I told them that I don't do FNO's.  For whatever reason...

So, tonight, I decided to give it another chance.. took off from Miami, no problem, no ATC in Miami, no ATC in Jacksonville, Atlanta was on, but announced over freq that he was logging off.  Which he kind of did.  Changed his freq, but remained online with 199.98.  I got several PM's asking if I was in contact with him, to which I replied NO.  So I went to unicomm.

Memphis had 2 center controllers online, but neither one had any info in their personal information explaining which was doing what, so I remained on unicomm and hoped that the one I needed to talk to would send me a "contactme"   which he eventually did, so I contacted him, but at that time I was at my TOD, which I told him, and he didn't respond to me, rather was communication with an aircraft that was at least 50 in my trail.  And then he fumbled through that communication.  So, instead of getting upset online, I just logged off and remembered why I don't do FNO's

For what it's worth.

Virtual Airlines / vOneWorld Update
« on: March 16, 2015, 05:07:51 PM »
In a little over 3 months, vOneWorld has been operating now with 25 pilots.  We have completed 240 flights, accumulating over 830 hours.

If you haven't heard of us, we are a very low key, virtual airline that has absolutely no politics and very very few rules.  If this is what you seek in a VA, I invite you to have a look.

Virtual Airlines / vOneWorld Alliance
« on: December 01, 2014, 08:26:32 AM »
Today vOneWorld Alliance opens it doors to the public.  We have been in beta testing now for a couple of months.  We've worked out most the bugs, but as most of you know, it is always a work in progress to keep a website running.

Now, this VA is not going to be for everyone.  We are NOT mimicking any real world corporation.  We do have the One World schedule of over 14,000 schedules world wide.  This is going to be a relaxed atmosphere VA, no CAT ratings, no minimum flight requirements, no politics, just people coming together to enjoy this wonderful hobby that has been made available to us.  We do have an ever evolving website, a private TS3, and forums where technical issues can be resolved or answer to any question asked.

So, if you are looking for a VA that is  relaxed, this may just be the VA for you.  Founded by three long time pilots and controllers on VATSIM, all formerly with American Virtual Airlines (joinava)  Scott DeWoody, Josh Webb, and Volker Jacob.

Give us a look:  www.vonewa.org

Please note that the site works better with Chrome, or Firefox, we are working on IE

General Discussion / American Virtual Airlines' 11th Birthday Bash
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:46:15 PM »
As CEO of American Virtual Airlines, I would like to thank on behalf of my staff and pilots all controllers involved in this event.  This includes the Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami, and mostly the Boston crew.  We had a great time, and appreciated the ATC, which was outstanding.

KUDOS to all!

« on: May 30, 2012, 12:11:58 PM »
Just to let you know, AvA was hacked last night by the TURKS, not too serious, but none the less.  This happened a couple of years ago.  So check your site security.

General Discussion / iFly 737NG
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:53:31 PM »
If any of you were wondering about the iFly 737NG, and how it may compare to the PMDG.  Well, I can't honestly compare it to the PMDG... why??   Because PMDG STILL  has not released theirs.  What I can tell you is that the iFly 737NG for FSX is in my opinion, THE BEST addon aircraft to date for FSX.  You get ALL models of the 737, from the 600 to the 900, including the BBJ's.

General Discussion / My Alerts
« on: May 01, 2011, 05:03:24 PM »
Is it just me, or does anyone else get a semi transparent rectangular black box with the words "My Alerts" on their screen when they log onto the VATUSA site?   It's the only site that I get this box, and when I come to the forums, it's not there, but go back to the home page, and it's there again.

General Discussion / ZLA Pilot Training
« on: February 23, 2011, 07:23:08 PM »
Just out of curiosity, what knowledge should a ZLA I7 certified pilot have?

I am in no way, shape or form, knocking the training you guys in LA do, as a matter of fact, I applaud your efforts, this is a real curiosity question.

Virtual Airlines / American Virtual Milestone
« on: January 12, 2011, 10:56:09 AM »
This year, AvA (joinava.org), not to be confused with other AA related VA's will reach a major milestone.

We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary not only as a VA, but as a VATSIM/VATUSA partner.
That's 10 years, not 10 months, weeks, or days.... but YEARS.

To celebrate this monumental milestone, we will be having our annual "Birthday Bash" into the Dallas/Fort Worth Intl. Airport sometime around the 1st week of June.  We invite all other VA's large and small to join us for this event.  I know it's 5 months away, but we plan on this being such a large event, that we want to make sure everyone is prepared, so mark it on your calendars, and be prepared to interact with some of the most professional pilots and ATC on VATSIM.  Our goal is to launch as many planes from each of our different HUBS to arrive in Dallas covering a 2 hours time frame.  We are planning on having a great time and hope everyone that attends will also.

Check our website (joinava.org) for continuing information concerning this event.
