News / Jacksonville Seeks a Training Administrator

We're building a visionary ARTCC at Jacksonville. To help build this ARTCC, we're seeking a qualified, professional, and motivated individual to fill the role of Training Administrator. This individual will oversee the training department and will be responsible for maintaining our compliance with the VATSIM Global Ratings Policy. Additionally, this individual will play an essential role in pushing Jacksonville's cross-border, data-driven, and standardized training agenda.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees, develops, and manages the ZJX ARTCC Training Department
  • Reports directly to the ZJX ARTCC Air Traffic Manager (ATM), Deputy Air Traffic Manager (DATM), and VATUSA Training Director (VATUSA3)
  • Hires facility instructors and mentors, for the purpose of broadening the ARTCC’s training capacity, in consultation with the ZJX ATM and DATM
  • Develops scenario and training files for usage on Tower Trainer as well as ACSIM
  • Administers Over-the-Shoulder (OTS) Examinations on Sweatbox as well as live examinations on the VATSIM Network
  • Trains and evaluates members of varying skill levels and controller ratings for the purpose of expanding the ARTCC's controller base
  • Develop training policies, materials, and procedures for ZJX
  • Assists in VATUSA Southern Region Initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned by the ZJX ATM, DATM, and/or VATUSA3
Requirements
  • At least a C1 rating
  • Have previous training staff experience
  • Have no history of disciplinary or unprofessional conduct
  • Be capable of working well in a team-oriented environment
  • Have a strong knowledge of the National Airspace System, as well as US terminology, phraseology, and US ATC systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the VATSIM Global Ratings Policy and how it applies to the development of the ZJX ARTCC Training Department
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills in the English Language
  • Have the ability to create professional looking documents using Microsoft Words or similar software
Preferred Skills
  • Supervisory, training, or management experience either on VATSIM or in your professional life
  • Previous or current ARTCC Senior Staff experience
  • Instructor or Mentor experience on VATSIM
  • Real-World ATC or flying experience
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Situation Editor, TWRTrainer, ACSIM, and their associated files; training can be provided
  • A true passion and joy for teaching others and helping our members achieve greater heights in their VATSIM controlling experience
Interested candidates should be aware that this is not an entry-level position. The workload of this position is not to be taken lightly. Only those who understand the requirements and can make the appropriate time commitment should consider applying for this position.

We're building a visionary ARTCC at Jacksonville. To help build this ARTCC, we're seeking a qualified, professional, and motivated individual to fill the role of Webmaster. In the first few months, the individual will play a critical role in pushing Jacksonville's data-driven and growth agenda. This includes building on-site report dashboards, building a data feed utilizing VATUSA's API, and leading the website redesign.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining an online presence within the facility and on the VATSIM network.
- Attending staff meetings.
- Overseeing development and maintenance of the ARTCC website and services.
- Overseeing the ARTCC?s data services including email systems, databases, Discord, etc.
- Developing and implementing policies for operation and maintenance of the ARTCC web and data systems.
- Serving as the technical adviser to ARTCC Staff.
- All other responsibilities which help to accomplish the mission, goals, and vision of ZJX.

Key Requirements
- Knowledge of modern web programming languages and techniques, including: HTML, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, AJAX, and CSS.
- Possess an analytical background.
- Familiarity with APIs.
- Possess a high degree of energy and commitment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Have no significant disciplinary record.
- Have no history of unprofessional behavior.
- Be in good standing on the VATSIM network.
- Be a home controller at the time of appointment.

Jacksonville ARTCC will be hosting Destination: Orlando FNO, live from FS Expo. From 2359z-0300z on June 7, 2019, VATUSA will be lighting up the United States for aircraft to fly into or out of our featured field: Orlando International Airport (KMCO). All aircraft which release chemtrails are welcome.

VATSTAR IS ORGANIZING A GROUP FLIGHT FLYING INTO ORLANDO FROM ATLANTA (KATL). THE FLIGHT WILL DEPART AT AROUND 2359Z AND EXPECTED TO ARRIVE AT 0130Z TO 0200Z. PILOT BRIEFING WILL BE AT 2330. THERE WILL BE A GIVEAWAY OF ONE FS2CREW. SEE YOU THERE!

The Daytona 500 is a 500-mile-long motor race held annually at Daytona International Speedway. The speedway can be seen on the approach into the Daytona Beach International Airport (KDAB) as it borders the field. To celebrate this event, please join the Jacksonville ARTCC at our Daytona 500 fly-in. We will be fully staffed, so come with your jet or C172!

The event will take place from 2359-0400z on February 16, 2019.

Jacksonville ARTCC will be hosting Destination: Orlando FNO, live from FS Expo. From 2300z-0300z on June 7, 2019, VATUSA will be lighting up the United States for aircraft to fly into or out of our featured field: Orlando International Airport (KMCO). All aircraft which release chemtrails are welcome ;)!

PILOTS:
Full air traffic control service will be available at Orlando International Airport from 2300z-0300z on June 7, 2019. VATUSA controllers will also be lighting up airspace throughout the United States for you to fly to/from our featured field!

Hi all,

I am really excited to announce our two-week search for a Facility Engineer has concluded. The Jacksonville ARTCC team has selected Harry Linsenmayer as our Facility Engineer. Harry brings previous Facility Engineer experience from Honolulu CF and ideas for sector file improvements that will push our ARTCC forward. He was so eager to apply for the position that, in his interview stage, he even re-did one of our sector files.

I am extremely grateful for Harry stepping up and taking on this role. I am also excited to see him grow as a leader here at Jacksonville. Welcome to the team, Harry!

I'm excited to announce Brin Brody as Jacksonville's New Deputy Air Traffic Manager. Brin joins us from Anchorage where he has previously served as their Training Administrator and Events Coordinator. Brin has exciting initiatives he hopes to bring to Jacksonville, including: revising our SOP and policies, creating KPIs to monitor our successes and problem areas, growing our pilot and new controller community, and increasing feedback to ZJX staff.

These initiatives, coupled with his experience, make me really excited about this announcement. Please join me in welcoming Brin to the ZJX family :).
