News / Position Posting: Fort Worth ARTCC Training Administrator

Position Positing - ZFW Training Administrator

Purpose:

The Fort Worth ARTCC (ZFW) is seeking a qualified, professional and motivated individual to fulfil
the role of Training Administrator (TA).

Key Responsibilities

- Oversees, develops and Manages the ZFW training program
- Reports to the ZFW Air Traffic Manager (ATM) and VATUSA Training Director (VATUSA3)
- Hires facility instructors and mentors in consultation with the ZFW ATM and DATM
- Develops scenario files using Situation Editor for usage in Tower Trainer
- Administer Over-the-Shoulder (OTS) Examinations on Sweatbox or the live VATSIM network
- Train and evaluate members of varying skill levels and controller rating
- Develop ZFW training policies
- Other duties as assigned by the ZFW ATM or DATM, or VATUSA3

Requirements

A successful candidate must:
- Hold at least a C1 rating
- Have held a rating of I1 for at least 30 days at any given time prior to hiring date
- Have previous training experience
- Have no disciplinary or unprofessional conduct in the last twelve months
- Be capable of working well in a team-oriented environment
- Have a strong knowledge of the United States Airspace and Air Traffic Control systems
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Have the ability to create professional looking documents using Word or similar software
- Have membership as a home controller or visiting controller in ZFW (Must be certified through center)

Preferred Skills:

A successful candidate should have:
- Instructor/Mentor experience
- Previous or current ARTCC Senior Staff experience
- Supervisory, trainer, or management experience in virtual or real world
- Knowledge of Aircraft Situation Editor; will train if never utilized
- Joy in teaching and helping others develop relevant skills through their virtual ATC career

News / ZFW Seeking a Facility Engineer

ZFW is looking for a Facility Engineer!

The facility engineer is responsible for keeping controllers up-to-date with new procedures and airspace changes. We're looking for someone who is motivated, experienced and willing to take on new challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Reports  to  the  ATM  and DATM
- Serves  as  the  manager  of  the  ARTCC  sector  files  and  associated  controlling  client  software  files
- Updates  related  files  as  new  and  updated  AIRACs  are  released
- Works  with  the  TA  in  managing  and  maintain  training  files  and  works  with  other staff  members to  facilitate  materials  for  their  positions  and  respective  departments
- Must  control  at  least  the  minimum  number  of  hours  required  by  the  ARTCC Standard  Operating  Procedures
- Serves  at  the  request  of  the  ATM  and  may  be  removed  from  the  position  at any time provided  there  is  ample  justification  for  removal
- Other  duties  as  assigned  by  the  ATM  and  DATM

Required Qualifications
- Must  hold  an  Student  3  (S3)  rating  or  higher
- Must  be  an  active  member  of  the  network,  in  good  standing
- Member  of  the  ZFW  ARTCC,  either  as  a  visitor  or  home  controller,  for  at  least  6months  (requirement  may  be  waived  at  the  discretion  of  the  ATM)
- Must  have  excellent  written  and  oral  communication  skills'- Must  be  able  to  work  in  a  team  environment'
- Must  comply  with  all  duties  and  requirements  as  outlined  in  the  SOP

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous or current ARTCC staff experience
- Real world aviation experience

This position requires a significant commitment to ZFW and VATSIM. Role and responsibilities may change as needed.

Please help me congratulate Mark Jeffreys who has been selected as the next Deputy Air Traffic Manager of the Fort Worth ARTCC! Mark has previously served as the Training Administrator in ZFW, with additional experiencing as DATM in ZHU. I know Mark is eager to get going in this capacity and has great ideas in store for ZFW.

Please help me in welcoming Mark to ZFW!

News / Position Opening: Fort Worth ARTCC Deputy Air Traffic Manager

Position: Deputy Air Traffic Manager
Location: Fort Worth ARTCC (ZFW)
Time Commitment: 4 to 8 hours per week+, and required monthly controller hours to maintain ARTCC membership.
Supervisor: Fort Worth ARTCC ATM
Application Deadline: Closes February 16th, 2018 at 23:59z

ZFW is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Deputy Air Traffic Manager at the Fort Worth ARTCC.  This position is not an entry-level position and will require significant time commitments to effectively perform the duties of Deputy Air Traffic Manager.

Duties of the DATM:

- Serves as the assistant to the ATM
- Serves as the Air Traffic Manager in the absence of the ATM
- Serves at the request of the ATM and may be removed from the position at any time provided there is ample justification for removal
- Oversees the day to day operations of the ARTCC
- Manages the VATUSA and ARTCC rosters
- Welcomes new members to the ARTCC
- Other duties as assigned by the Air Traffic Manager and/or VATUSA Staff

Minimum Requirements:

- Must hold at least a Controller 1 (C1) rating or higher
- Member of the vZFW ARTCC, either as a visitor or home controller, for at least 6 months (requirement may be waived at the discretion of the ATM)
- Must control at least the minimum number of hours required by the ARTCC Standard Operating Procedures
- Must be an active member of the network, in good standing
- Must not have received any disciplinary action in the last 6 months.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to work in a team environment

Highly Desired Skills:

- Demonstrates qualities of understanding, patience, and maturity.
- Understands the position requires CONSIDERABLE commitment of time.
- Prior ARTCC Staff experience.
- Prior or current Instructor or Mentor experience.
- Experience effectively managing others through effective leadership practices.
- Real world management experience.

Only those candidates who understand the requirements and can make the appropriate commitment should apply.  Candidates can expect an initial evaluation of their application after which they may be contacted for a comprehensive interview.

The Houston Texans will be battling for greatness at home against the Chicago Bears. We will be staffing from 0000z-0400z (1900-2300 central time). Houston Hobby (KHOU), and Houston Intercontinental (KIAH) will be staffed for this fun evening. VFR, IFR, GA, commercial, rotary, we'll take it all! When calling up a controller for the first time, make sure to let them know your favorite NFL team.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to declare an emergency mid flight? What would you need to say to the controller, or what checklist would you need to go through? Well you're in luck! Join the Houston ARTCC as we present 'Emergency Madness: Houston!' This will be a night full of interesting controlling. If you message ZHU_EVT the night of the event and advise him that you would be ok with declaring an emergency, you will be put in the pool to possibly get a message with what emergency we would like you to perform. Our controllers will not decline your emergency, and we will treat it as they would in real world! This event will be taking place from 2000z-2300z.
