Flight Planning
In Australia, flight plans are filed in the ICAO method, with the SID/STAR not included with the initial filing. This will be provided by ATC on contact with clearance delivery (for departure) and with Centre, usually just prior to initial descent clearance.

In Sydney each different runway has it's own set of SID's, which can be hard to predict ahead of time. Due to this, the outbound route should start with "TESAT". TESAT is an RNAV waypoint located on the airfield, replacing the old VOR "SY" which has since been decommissioned in the real world as part of the Navigation Rationalization project which removed 179 ground-based navigation aids on the 26th of May 2016, meaning GNSS is now the primary means of navigation for all instrument flight rule aircraft and flight plans.

An IFR Aircraft flying from Sydney to Melbourne will file TESAT H65 RAZZI Q29 ML regardless of the runways in use. Indeed some aircraft may well be assigned the WOL9 departure from runway 34L, and others the MARUB5 departure from runway 34R given northerly prevailing winds. Both of these departures join the H65 airway at WOL (Wollongong), however the SID tracks are very different, with one starting with a Left turn off runway 34L, and the MARUB5 departure from runway 34R starting with a Right turn.

Knowledge about deleting waypoints and closing route discontinuities in your FMS will be useful. Cheats include knowing the 2nd waypoint along the initial airway. Additionally be aware that ATC is likely to ammend the text of your route when giving clearance in the same manner as the Electronic Flight Strip is used in the real world. Once you file it, it's theirs.

Flight Plan Route
To help with filing your flight plan, VATPAC provides the Flight Planning Tool at https://www.vatpac.org/pilots/pilot-tools/flight-planning/

Charts
Additionally the real world Air Services Australia website provides charts for all airports in Australia, free of charge, on their Aerodrome and Procedure Charts website

YSSY Sydney airport ground chart, and the areas various airlines typically use.
Note: International on the west (left) side and Dometic on the east (right) side, including freight.
In most FSX sceneries (including default) the Domestic side gates start with the letter "D", and the international side has no alphabetic prefix.

VATUSA is pleased to announce we will be participating live at FlightSimCon 2017! We encourage all VATUSA members to join us at North America’s largest aviation and flight simulation conference, which takes place June 10-11 at the Sheraton Hartford Hotel, Bradley Int’l Airport (BDL), near Hartford, CT.

This event will be VATUSA’s biggest member meet-up of the year, and we really hope you’ll join us in person. Register online now starting at $50 for the weekend. Visit flightsimcon.com to get started.

After the event, plan to stick around: we’ll be holding a live, on-network ATC event at 8pm ET on Sunday, June 11. All VATUSA controllers and pilots are welcome to bring their computers to join in an evening of socializing with other members from around the country and enjoying the top-notch ATC our division offers as we attempt to Light Up America live for one evening!

During FlightSimCon, VATUSA will be staffing 4 tables on the convention floor. We will have a live demonstration on the network featuring many of the possibilities for virtual flight and control across our division. Additionally, we will provide opportunities for the public to try controlling in VATSIM’s ATC training environment. We’d love for you to meet our controllers and staff, and, while you’re at it, check out the more than 30 other exhibitors and sponsors that are already confirmed for the event.

VATUSA encourages all of our pilots and controllers to attend FlightSimCon. This is North America’s ONLY aviation and flight simulation conference, and it needs the support of communities like ours to help keep it growing. Throughout the event, you’ll have the chance to win great giveaway items from Big Fat Simulations, David Clark, ImagineSim, and Justplanes.com. The conference will also feature a complimentary social event on Saturday night, sponsored by Private Jet Class Sponsor Orbx Simulation Systems.

Registration for FlightSimCon is available at flightsimcon.com. Standard registration for the whole weekend is $60 for general members, with discounts available for students or those actively training for a private pilot certificate. Events / [12FEB17 12:00z] A Sunny Winter Escape (Departure)
« on: February 07, 2017, 01:27:41 PM »

In collaboration with VATSIM United States Division, Portugal vACC, and our partner VA from Northern Africa Royal Air Maroc Virtual, Northern Africa vACC is proud to announce A Sunny Winter Escape on Sunday, February 12th starting from 12z. It is an opportunity to enjoy a fantastic transatlantic flight between New York/KJFK and Marrakech/GMMX.

Morocco has enjoyed a vibrant relationship with the United States since time immemorial. In 1777, Morocco was the first country in the world to formally acknowledge the United States as an independent nation. It is also crucial to note that Morocco has been a loyal and indispensable American ally during these trying political times in the Maghreb, of which Morocco is an integral part. We have been consistent supporters of the United States in its relentless campaigns to negotiate and facilitate peace during the unfortunate political events that have unfolded in the region. Years ago, both Morocco and the United States engaged in strategic dialogue to address most of these issues and deliberate on solutions.

There has never been a more appropriate time for American businesses to expand into Africa than now. Whether you believe or not, Africa is rising fast. Over the last decade, Africa’s growth rates have been approaching that of Asia. According to the International Monetary Fund, at least 6 African countries are on the list of the World’s 10 fastest growing economies. Corruption is on a decline and good governance is fast gaining ground. More importantly, there is an unprecedented explosion in the number of Middle-class Africans meaning that an increasing number of Africans have access to goods and services. This is a great time to get in on the African opportunity, and there is no better gateway into Africa than Morocco!

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your heavy aircrafts and join us on this enjoyable ride!

News / VATUSA at FlightSimCon 2017 - Early Bird Registration Ending
« on: January 31, 2017, 12:48:09 PM »
Good Afternoon VATUSA Member,

VATUSA will be participating at FlightSimCon 2017 at the Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, CT

The convention is June 10-11, 2017.

This 2 day convention will feature representatives from your favorite add-on vendors, seminars on flight simulation, and previews of things coming to a simulator near you.  There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions of developers, meet fellow VATSIMers, engage with flight simulator enthusiasts from all over the world, and maybe even score a freebie or two!

VATUSA will be staffing a few tables to show  the public what we do and encourage more people to fly or control on our network. We will be seeking volunteers to help with this demonstration. Stay tuned to the VATUSA forums for more information on how to volunteer.

In addition to the convention display team,   VATUSA is also planning on hosting a live event following completion of the convention activities on June 11 (pending final approval from FlightSimCon).  All VATUSA controllers are welcome to bring their controlling rigs and take part in this live event provided they register for at least 1 day of the convention.

Registration is required for the convention and more information can be found at http://www.flightsimcon.com.

The conference is ending early bird registration on January 31, 2017 at 23:59 EST which provides a $10 discount off registration fees.
