Events / [09/10/22 2000-2300z] VATSIM First Wings: Winnipeg & Madison
« on: August 12, 2022, 11:46:16 AM »

Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you!

At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them.

For this edition, we will be flying in North America. On Saturday 10th September, American and Canadian controllers are staffing Dane County (KMSN) and Winnipeg (CYWG), with departures from either airport starting at 20 UTC and ending at 22 UTC.

To ensure a fun and smooth afternoon for pilots and controllers alike slots are required! Pilots without a booked flight can, and will, be delayed.

Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/. If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop.

First Wings events are now held on a regular basis, with one edition occurring at the beginning of each month. To allow everyone to participate, regardless of their timezone, the location of the event rotates every month, passing through all corners of the World.

Events / VATUSA Presents: Hidden Gateways, Sponsored by FlightFX
« on: June 22, 2022, 12:08:18 AM »

Every airport in VATUSA is a link to somewhere, but too often we only look at the mega hubs; the airports that connect tens of millions of people a year. There are so many more destinations, and these hidden gateways are frequently forgotten. On July 15, we will be trying to highlight some fields that make the NAS more than just a super highway; airports that are the two-lane boulevards in our country. VATUSA is proud to partner with FlightFX for this Open Mic Night. Read on for details of how to be entered into the giveaway.

Event fields
KJAX
KELP
KCRP
KRNO
KJAN
KBOI
KOMA
KGJT
KSHV
KPDX
KCRW
KMDW

Pilots who fly into or out of at least one of these featured fields during the event period (2300z - 0300z) will be entered into a giveaway drawing for an MSFS aircraft software developed by FlightFX.

Additionally, controllers who are on position at an event field (DEL, GND, TWR, APP/DEP), or who are on a CTR position for the event field's ARTCC for at least two hours will be entered into a separate giveaway for the same software.

Events / [10/13/20 2330-0230z] ZTL's TRSA Tuesdays @ KMCN
« on: September 10, 2020, 06:52:39 PM »

ZTL is proud to present TRSA Tuesdays, back in all of its glory. This time, we will feature Middle Georgia Regional Airport, in Macon, Georgia (KMCN). It will be staffed up on October 13th, 2020 from 2330-0230z. Feel free to bring anything you can load up the sim with and challenge our controllers at this awesome Class D airport.

The summertime is coming to a close, but on September 20, 2020 there will one last hurrah as Nassau (MYNN) and Atlanta (KATL) will be staffed up from 2100 to 0100z for a crossfire. The lush forests of the south will contrast with the beautiful beaches of the Bahamas. Be careful of the Atlantic though, it gets pretty tricky this time of year.

55

It's going to get hot and heavy in the middle of the summer between Memphis and Atlanta. Get your flying suits on, it's time for a crossfire. It's going to get pretty hot and humid in the flight deck, so make sure your passengers are comfy with that air conditioning and get flying! These summer destinations will be open on August 15, 2020 from 2300-0300z (7pm-11pm ET).

We here at ZTL have undergone the confusion for too long. Yes, there is a Birmingham that isn't in Europe. It's not in the UK. It's in the US of A baby. So to celebrate our great city in our great country, far away from the other Birmingham, we are lighting up Birmingham. Not the European one. The American one. It's the All American Birmingham Light Up, June 14, 2020 2300-0230z (7-11pm ET). It's bound to get toasty as we enter the summer months down here in the south. Not south in Europe, the south in the US. If you have any questions about this don't hesitate to ask.

Events / [05/31/20 2300-0300z] Goodbye, Mad Dog
« on: May 07, 2020, 01:44:52 PM »

After over twenty years of service to Delta Air Lines, the Mad Dog's era is ending. The workhorse for America's second largest airline has served faithfully, and is moving on. On May 31, from 2300-0300z (7-11pm ET), ZTL will be celebrating its career by staffing up Delta's home, Atlanta. Join us in anything you'd like, but of course, a member of the MD80 family is encouraged.

Events / [04/18/20 2300-0300z] Share a Coke with Atlanta
« on: April 04, 2020, 05:20:10 PM »

Join ZTL and KATL on April 18, 2020 from 2300-0300z (7-11pm ET) for a night in the heart of Georgia at the busiest airport in the world (real world that is). We'll be keeping it age appropriate and cracking open some cokes in the tower cab in honor of the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, and we encourage you to do the same. Bring any plane you got and grab a coke out of the fridge, it's gonna be a busy one!

Events / [04/18/20 1800-2130z] Peaches in Peachtree
« on: March 01, 2020, 10:52:00 PM »

It's been asked for. It's been denied. Finally it's here. Peaches in Peachtree will happen, just in time for the Georgia peach season, on April 18, 2020 from 1800-2130z (2-5:30pm ET). This beautiful field sits just north east of its larger brother Atlanta, and for some reason it gets shunned by the pilots of VATSIM. So we're doing this. Get your lawn chairs out, dust off that blimp, get your Atlanta TAC ready, and load up at Peachtree (KPDK). It's bound to be a fun one. Your mother called; you need to eat more fruit.

Events / [07/17/20 2300-0300z] The City in the Forest FNO (KATL)
« on: February 25, 2020, 10:17:08 PM »

It's the ZTL FNO in the so-called "City in the Forest". At nearly 47% tree canopy, yep you guessed it, Atlanta (KATL). So on July 17, 2020 we'll be celebrating our eco-friendly airport by staffing it up for 4 hours (2300-0300z). Fill up the busiest airport in the world with your favorite flying materials, but make sure to look out the window and take in the sights of this beautiful city located in the heart of the Southern United States. And if you don't get the tree thing, I swear it's real, check out the website: https://cityintheforest.org/
