Events / [17 Oct 2020 2300-0300z] Bradley Bash 2020!
« on: August 23, 2020, 11:10:54 AM »

On October 17, fly into the Bradley/Y90 TRACON with Boston Virtual ARTCC and you’ll have the chance to win a free LatinVFR product. Plus, every pilot who enters the draw will automatically receive a 10% discount code on LatinVFR’s KBDL, even if you don’t win!

In partnership with LatinVFR, we’re staffing up Bradley/Hartford (KBDL) and the other area airports in our annual Bradley Bash event. You’ll find ATC coverage at KBDL along with KORH, KHFD, KBAF, and KCEF. Staffing starts at 7pm ET and will run through 11pm (2300-0300Z). Pilots of all simulators are welcome to fly into KBDL and the other staffed airports throughout the event.

By flying into KBDL or any of the other staffed airports, pilots will have the chance to win a copy of LatinVFR’s KBDL, or (if you already own it) any other product. LatinVFR’s KBDL is compatible with Prepar3D v4 and v5, with MSFS compatibility expected. For information on how to enter the raffle, read the full rules on our forums.

While you're in the area, why not try out one of our WINGS flights. Remember, many of the flights have published Alternate Airports, allowing you to earn your BVA pilot ratings at event airports!

In the Regional Circuit, we staff up multiple of our airports to provide pilots with an opportunity to receive 'gate-to-gate' ATC service for the duration of the event. Pilots are encouraged to fly between the airports and make the return flight if time allows; however, traffic from other airports is welcome as well. The Regional Circuit always creates an immersive atmosphere with busy frequencies and congested airways between the host airports.

This Regional Circuit features Boston (KBOS) and Albany (KALB) airports.

BVA's Pack the Pattern gives pilots the opportunity to fly closed traffic at one of our busier airports and experience the realism of being sequenced with IFR and VFR arrivals. This event is designed to put both our most skilled pilots and controllers to the test.

All traffic is welcome, from a piston prop remaining in the pattern to a long-haul airliner flying in from afar. Join us for a few touch-and-goes, low approaches, or a full-stop landing!

Set the parking brake on the airliner and knock the cobwebs off your favorite general aviation aircraft! The General Aviation Fly-In visits locales across the country that are famous for their scenery and general aviation influence. While anything from a single engine Cessna to a regional jet is welcome in this event, ‘low and slow’ offers the best opportunity to experience the scenery.

During this GA Fly-In event, local air traffic control is staffed at smaller airports with overlying radar controllers to provide VFR Flight Following and IFR services. Fly VFR closed traffic, practice instrument approaches, or fly VFR or IFR between the featured airports: the choice is yours.

The event features Manchester (KMHT), Nashua (KASH), and Portsmouth (KPSM) airports. It’s also a great time to try out one of our Pilot Ratings Program flights. Remember, many of the flights have published Alternate Airports, allowing you to earn your BVA and VATSIM pilot ratings at event airports!

On Saturday, August 8, our controllers will bring you seven uninterrupted hours of ATC coverage across the entirety of the Boston ARTCC. That includes Boston (KBOS), Bradley (KBDL), Providence (KPVD), Syracuse (KSYR), Portland (KPWM), Albany (KALB), and The Cape.

The event will be from 4-11pm ET (2000-0300Z). Pilots are highly encouraged to read Boston Virtual ARTCC's Letter to Airmen before flying.

During the event, pilots may also participate in Tea Party Poker. Participating pilots can receive virtual poker cards after completing eligible flights. Pilots holding the best hands at the end of the event will have the opportunity to win great prizes from our event sponsors, which in past years have included HiFi, Orbx, RealityXP, Rex Simulations, and Thrustmaster! Rules and participation information are posted on our Tea Party event page.

Perhaps no sound more clearly evokes an image of wilderness than the honking of migrating geese. Canada geese have passed through Massachusetts on their journeys to and from their arctic breeding grounds in Canada for centuries.

On April 17th we're taking flight for BVA's spring FNO. In partnership with CZYZ we're staffing up Boston (KBOS), Toronto (CYYZ), and Bradley (KBDL) airports for the flocks of planes bound to be about. Prepare for migratory bird activity, because this event will be is bound to be a honk'n good time!

Important Reminders for Pilots Flying the HONK! FNO (April 17)

We look forward to staffing Boston (KBOS) and Bradley (KBDL) for HONK!, beginning at 7pm ET on Friday, April 17. In partnership with VATCAN, Toronto (CYYZ) will also be fully staffed.

As pilots who have flown in recent VATSIM events will know, traffic is very busy on the network these days! Recent FNO events have seen record levels of traffic that, in many cases, exceeds the real-world capacity of the airports.

We want to ensure everyone who flies in our HONK! FNO has a great experience. To do that, we are asking for the cooperation of VATSIM pilots to help spread out the traffic. By following some of the recommendations below, you’ll help ensure everyone gets the benefit of busy frequencies but smooth air traffic control experiences.

If you are planning to fly in and around our airspace on Friday, please consider the following:

  • Boston Center (ZBW) has planned staffing for pilots to fly:
    • Into KBOS
    • Into KBDL
    • Between CYYZ and KBOS, in relativley limited numbers

  • We encourage pilots to plan flights from other places and various directions into each of CYYZ, KBOS, and KBDL. This is not a crossfire! You don’t need to exclusively fly between these airports and if everyone tries to fly between the airports, there will be significant delays and airborne holding—all of which we want to avoid.
  • Please strongly consider flying into Hartford (KBDL) instead of Boston (KBOS)! This makes for more interesting traffic: you’ll be descended early to avoid other flows, but will still hear all the busy Boston arrival streams. We have a full staff of controllers at KBDL throughout the event and want them to be just as busy as the crews at CYYZ and KBOS.
  • If you are planning a virtual airline or group flight, don’t fly between the featured airports. You’ll be taking up slots from other pilots. Instead, split your group into 3 and plan arrivals from various airports into each of CYYZ, KBOS, and KBDL from different directions. Take on the challenging of timing your flights to arrive about 5-10 minutes apart so you land together but haven’t flown the whole way with each other. It makes for a much more interesting experience and helps balance traffic – plus it allows the other facilities who are providing supporting staffing to see some departures.
  • Please read our Letter to Airmen, which includes important reminders for flying on the network and links to scenery updates for our airports.

In the Regional Circuit, we staff up two of our airports to provide pilots with an opportunity to receive 'gate-to-gate' ATC service for the duration of the event. Pilots are encouraged to fly between the two airports and make the return flight if time allows; however, traffic from other airports is welcome as well. The Regional Circuit always creates an immersive atmosphere with busy frequencies and congested airways between the host airports.

This Regional Circuit features Nantucket (KACK) and Boston (KBOS).
