Hey everyone,
Long time pilot in VATUSA and a new student in vZAU's controller training. I'm still gettin setup with training but I have a question: is there a place i can get a general list of all the virtual airlines and there abbreviations for identification purposes while controlling? i.e. AAL = American DAL = Delta etc. Thanks everyone

Billy,
Although I am sure there are better resources, the following link is Wiki page that should include almost all of the airlines. Wikipedia cautions that it may take a bit longer to open this page due to the amount of information. I hope this helps you!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_codes-All (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_codes-All)
* I did not check the airlines abbreviations at this link, so they may or may not be accurate.

You can try this also:

With thanks to Gerry Hattendorf from vZLA

If you prefer, the above mentioned FAA publication can be downloaded in PDF at http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air...c/publications/ (http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air_traffic/publications/) , publication JO 7340.2 - Contractions. It has all the airline callsigns, except of course the virtual ones we encounter on Vatsim.

A controller in the Miami ARTCC wrote a webscript that uses the data from FAAO JO 7340.2 for this as well. The search feature can be found here: http://coderx.net/~coderx/ac_icao/index.php (http://coderx.net/~coderx/ac_icao/index.php)

I'm the controller That's hosted on my personal box at home, so it should be up most of the time, but I'd say relying on it expressly might not be the best idea. If anyone needs the database it's available in SQLite v3 format ( easily used in perl, php, or C ), or in a tab delimited format. I'm currently working on the back end so I can easily modify the database, to add virtual airlines and such, they'll have a country of origin set as "Virtual". I also have an aircraft designator database that covers appendix A, B and C of the 7110.65s You can see that at this url: http://coderx.net/~coderx/ac_desig/ (http://coderx.net/~coderx/ac_desig/) The database includes fixed wing, rotary, and experimental aircraft types. I've been working with the ZMA IT( Larry Wimble ) and we're considering maybe making this part of some upcoming project at ZMA, but nothing concrete yet.
Hope it helps,
