News / Position Posting: VATUSA Training Services Manager (VATUSA8)
« Last post by Brin Brody on January 27, 2025, 04:13:15 PM »
VATUSA is seeking a member of the community to join our Training Team as the newest Training Services Manager (VATUSA8 designator).  The Training Services Manager is responsible for administering VATUSA’s various training programs, interfacing with subdivision training teams, and providing user support.

What You Should Expect:
This is an individual contributor role and does not directly lead people.  Additionally, this is NOT a project-focused role; it is an administrative position responsible for overseeing day-to-day training operations across the division.  This position requires a daily commitment to reading and responding to or elevating subdivision queries and individual user support requests in addition to other routine administrative work (weekly commitment varies based on support traffic but is estimated at 3 hours per week or approximately 25 minutes per day).

What You’ll Be Responsible For:
  • Responding to and assigning, as appropriate, user support requests (tickets)
  • Responding to and elevating, as appropriate, subdivision training leadership queries
  • Administering Rating Competency Exams (RCEs) for eligible members
  • Overseeing division Instructors, including executing promotions and removals
    • This role directly supervises the VATUSA Probationary Instructor Program
  • Completing subdivision training leadership (Training Administrators) onboarding and removal
  • Generating quarterly training statistics reports or other reports as requested by division or subdivision leadership
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director Training Services

Candidates Must:
  • Hold, or have previously held, a full I1 rating within VATUSA (user has completed the Probationary Instructor program or was a full Instructor before the program was created)
  • Exhibit a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of VATUSA and VATSIM policies and procedures applicable to the programs for which the role is responsible (or a willingness and ability to learn)
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Exemplify professional behavior and a collaborative mindset
  • Indicate a willingness to commit to daily activity

Candidates Should:
  • Have experience as a VATUSA Training Administrator
  • Have program administration experience (VATSIM or otherwise)
  • Have some data analysis/visualization experience

This posting will remain open until 02/02/2025 at 23:59z.  Interested candidates who do not meet all preferred qualifications (“candidates should”), are encouraged to apply for this position.  To apply, submit your resume/CV and an expression of interest to the Deputy Director Training Services via email at vatusa3@vatusa.net.

Events / [Feb 12, 2025 0100z-0400z] TRACON Tuesdays: Monterey Madness
« Last post by Dan Michael Bonaga on January 27, 2025, 10:44:53 AM »

Airports: MRY, SNS
Date/Time: February 11, 2025, 5pm-8pm PT
Date/Time: February 12, 2025, 0100z-0400z

Come fly out with ZOA at our TRACON Tuesday for the month of February, Monterey Madness!! Monterey, California, is a premier flying destination for pilots, offering a diverse range of experiences set against the backdrop of stunning coastal and mountainous landscapes. The region’s primary hub, Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY), provides smooth approaches and easy access to the picturesque Monterey Bay. From here, pilots can enjoy scenic flights along the coast or head inland to explore the rolling hills and valleys. With its controlled airspace and favorable weather, MRY is a perfect base for both casual and cross-country flights.

Just to the east, Salinas Municipal Airport (SNS) offers a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for pilots seeking a quieter, less congested airport. From there, pilots can take in panoramic views of the Salinas Valley or navigate the rugged terrain of the nearby Santa Lucia Mountains. The proximity of SNS to MRY also allows for quick, scenic flights up and down the coast.

For those seeking more of an adventure, pilots can head over to the small but challenging airports of Carmel Valley (KCVS) and King City (3O4), where they’ll find tighter approaches and more complex terrain, perfect for honing precision flying skills. These airfields offer a true test for pilots while still providing remarkable vistas of the surrounding countryside.

We can't wait to see you there!!!
