The Control Room Floor / Re: Training time frame and facility selection

Yes there is a training backlog at EVERY ARTCC. Some are longer than others, The best way to find out before you transfer is to email the Training Administrator for the ARTCC as they can give you the best information for that.

I can tell you at ZDV we don't necessarily have a long backlog, as students book when they can, but it takes about 5-6 sessions to complete your S1 training. So part of it is up to your availability as well.

I don't think this is going be something that will be advertised on webpages or the VATUSA page, but like i said, if you have an questions the TA is the best person to ask.

You also have to understand that every training staff is made up of volunteers and some ARTCCs training staffs are not as large as others. ZNY and ZLA training staffs don't match the size of ZDV or ZLC, so wait times will vary from ARTCC to ARTCC. We do what we can but we also have IRL things to take care of, as well as wanting to control ourselves.

The Control Room Floor / Training time frame and facility selection

I recently passed my S1 exam and joined the facility where I live in the real world. I was excited to begin my ATC journey.

I then find out that the training backlog is 6 MONTHS or more, even just for DEL.

Needless to say, this is very discouraging. I can see a lot of new controllers getting frustrated and disappearing.

It would be very helpful if there was a web page where every facility posts their current training backlog so that new controllers can make a better informed decision as to which facility to join.

Having that information shown on the main VATUSA site might also motivate the individual facilities to work harder to get controllers trained, so as to attract new members to their facility.

Events / [5/12/2024] It's Pronounced "Lawn-Guy-Land"
« Last post by Daniel Sirota on January 17, 2024, 08:03:13 AM »

Two years ago, we educated the community about pronouncing Westchester correctly (it’s pronounced “wes-ches-tah”). As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the New York ARTCC believes it is our civil duty once again to declare the proper pronunciation of a popular summer destination: Long Island Lawn-Guy-Land. Don’t think about saying it any other way or our controllers will taxi you to a blast pad and blast you into nonexistence.

ANYWAY, fly into or out of our mainstay Long Island Lawn-Guy-Land airports, Islip (ISP), or Republic (FRG) for a fun Sunday afternoon! Enjoy some scenic views of this very long island and annoy residents by flying too low.

Event Fields: KISP, KFRG
Date & Time: May 12, 2024, 5:00pm → 8:00pm Eastern (2100z - 0000z)
Events / [7/2/2024] NTHNS Hot Dog Eating Contest
« Last post by Daniel Sirota on January 17, 2024, 07:25:55 AM »

The week of July 4th in New York City includes many different activities. You can enjoy the classic parades and fireworks, or, hear me out, jam your mouth (or watch others jam theirs) full of hotdogs at the annual Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest!

For 52 glorious years, tourists and locals have flocked to Coney Island to enjoy or even participate in this tradition. While this network hasn’t been around nearly as long, this July 4th week, instead of jamming your mouths with hot dogs, you can jam up the runways at LaGuardia (LGA), home of the NTHNS 5 departure!

Event Field: KLGA
Date & Time: July 2nd, 2024, 7:00pm → 10:00pm Eastern (2300z - 0200z)
