Title: VAT-Spy updates
Post by: Reynolds Price on January 18, 2018, 09:39:45 AM
So, I did some digging around a week or so ago and I was trying to find the updated files for VAT-Spy. now that I have them I don't remember where I got them so I'm going to upload them and then let yall download them as you wish.
A lot of airports that are closed have been marked closed and airports that previously were not on VAT-Spy now are. as well as a few airspace updates.

Thank you Sachin for giving me an even newer update! One Change that was not on there has been fixed. Link has been updated yet again.

Updates that I find will still be made and posted here. if the link doesnt work and you cant download it let me know.

How to Install:
go to C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\AppData\Roaming\Vat-Spy and copy over the files. Overwrite the existing files. Then, Restart VAT-Spy. All updates should be in place.

All credit is rightly due to someone. These are not my updates. the only thing I changed was PHZH (HNL CTR) to HCF.

Mahalo, Lee! We appreciate ya!

When a program matures and the authors move on to other projects, lose interest, or sadly, pass on, it is a matter for someone else to pick up the banner and move it forward.
 Thank you Lee for doing just that.

Yeah everyone says the new thing to use is accumap. lol. Its a good program yeah but not what i know some, if not most, like. VAT-Spy is simplistic and uses negligible resources. I know for those with older computers and budget builds running what we already do run can be taxing. So yeah...

Thanks.  I've used AccuMap and though I agree it's a nice program, I really like VATSpy a lot better.  So thank you for helping to keep it updated.

Yeah Don I've got my work cut out for me to get it to the standard I want with correct FIR/ARTCC boundaries and every airport I see someone go to and the line is not dotted Im going to add it to a list.

It was only within the last 48 hours I discovered that these updates were made and posted to the VATSIM forum periodically, and then stopped a few months ago.  And then I found that all the DropBox links were dead.  So this was a very, very timely post, my friend -- thank you, you absolute mind-reader!

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your work.

This update was not the latest update which was provided by Chris. The latest update of VAT-Spy can be downloaded by following this link -:

https://github.com/IndiavACC/VAT-Spy-Data-Files-Update-2018

I have also changed PHZH (HNL CTR) to HCF CTR in this update, so that you can use those files to make future updates as it contains all the latest updates of VAT-Spy.

Kind Regards,

updated once again. I changed the EGTT to reflect LON in an attempt to light up the sectors only being covered. We'll see if this works in the coming days and added a couple of airports. if only being FE was this simple...

I'd say multiple people working together to keep the VATSpy file updated is infinitely more powerful than one person :)

Mainly because of exposure and the fact Ross has said he'd consider updating VATSpy to track changes from the repo, which would be an added boon for all of us together!

Cheers!

As in, actually pull from the repo natively?  That'd be pretty awesome.  Perhaps the submission process should be more streamlined, such as a PR process.

A PR process is their submission process (with an email for those who aren't comfortable with git).

Submissions? Are we talking like people submit the updates they want to see? I would like that idea. Saves me the time and hassle of finding things and nitpicking.

And I'd like to see someone attempt to update the UI. Something not so Windows 98 looking?

Yes.

You'd need to source for that.  I don't think Ross intends to do that. And I don't think he has plans to updates/rewrite it.

I'm providing a one click install to update the data files.

Check it at https://github.com/pedro2555/vatspy-data-project.

 * Download it from https://github.com/pedro2555/vatspy-data-project/releases/download/0.0.2/win-installer.msi
 * Close VATSpy
 * Double Click the installer
 * Open VATSpy

Enjoy!

Hi Pedro,

As I just noted on the VATSIM forums, it would be great if you could reach out to the folks that maintain the official VATSpy repository and get this great idea blessed and incorporated into the official VATSpy update process.
