General Discussion / FNO's
« on: May 29, 2015, 08:40:56 PM »
I was telling someone the other day when asked if I was going to fly into or out of the FNO this week and I told them that I don't do FNO's.  For whatever reason...

So, tonight, I decided to give it another chance.. took off from Miami, no problem, no ATC in Miami, no ATC in Jacksonville, Atlanta was on, but announced over freq that he was logging off.  Which he kind of did.  Changed his freq, but remained online with 199.98.  I got several PM's asking if I was in contact with him, to which I replied NO.  So I went to unicomm.

Memphis had 2 center controllers online, but neither one had any info in their personal information explaining which was doing what, so I remained on unicomm and hoped that the one I needed to talk to would send me a "contactme"   which he eventually did, so I contacted him, but at that time I was at my TOD, which I told him, and he didn't respond to me, rather was communication with an aircraft that was at least 50 in my trail.  And then he fumbled through that communication.  So, instead of getting upset online, I just logged off and remembered why I don't do FNO's

For what it's worth.

Virtual Airlines / vOneWorld Update
« on: March 16, 2015, 05:07:51 PM »
In a little over 3 months, vOneWorld has been operating now with 25 pilots.  We have completed 240 flights, accumulating over 830 hours.

If you haven't heard of us, we are a very low key, virtual airline that has absolutely no politics and very very few rules.  If this is what you seek in a VA, I invite you to have a look.

Virtual Airlines / Curious Question
« on: December 04, 2014, 04:38:48 PM »
I'm pretty sure there is a freeware version of any aircraft his question is about, but to answer your question Lloyd, A320, B738, B752, B763, B777, B744.  I know what's 6, but those are the aircraft I fly the most.  If you had to drop one, I'd say the 752

Virtual Airlines / vOneWorld Alliance
« on: December 01, 2014, 08:26:32 AM »
Today vOneWorld Alliance opens it doors to the public.  We have been in beta testing now for a couple of months.  We've worked out most the bugs, but as most of you know, it is always a work in progress to keep a website running.

Now, this VA is not going to be for everyone.  We are NOT mimicking any real world corporation.  We do have the One World schedule of over 14,000 schedules world wide.  This is going to be a relaxed atmosphere VA, no CAT ratings, no minimum flight requirements, no politics, just people coming together to enjoy this wonderful hobby that has been made available to us.  We do have an ever evolving website, a private TS3, and forums where technical issues can be resolved or answer to any question asked.

So, if you are looking for a VA that is  relaxed, this may just be the VA for you.  Founded by three long time pilots and controllers on VATSIM, all formerly with American Virtual Airlines (joinava)  Scott DeWoody, Josh Webb, and Volker Jacob.

Give us a look:  www.vonewa.org

Please note that the site works better with Chrome, or Firefox, we are working on IE

Now.. apply that here, where we may have an Approach/Departure controller on, but no Center. Or better yet, only LAS Tower is on, with no-one at APP/DEP or CTR. With no-one to issue that clearance above FL190, what would the pilot do?
BL.

When the TWR controller issues the "no further ATC", the pilot would then proceed according to the SID then up to their final cruise.

I'm seeing this on the SHEAD8 departure out of KLAS as they (ATC) are expecting to clear you to your filed altitude before you have to worry about being above FL210 at DBIGE.  It gets you to SHEAD above 14000, then ATC tells you to C/M your filed altitude and the pilot is expected to be above FL210 by the time they get to DBIGE.

That's how I would read it.

The Control Room Floor / STAR Question - PMDG Jetstream 41
« on: November 23, 2013, 02:59:55 AM »

Yes if the chart has labeled Turbojet aircraft only, your Jetsream would qualify to fly that particular arrival or departure as it is a Turboprop.

Hmmm, now I'm confused, in all my years of flying I don't recall ever hearing a "turboprop" being allowed to fly a "turbojet only" SID or STAR.

The way I read it is "turbojet" only.... and "turboprops" are definitely NOT "turbojets".  They are gas turbine engines with a prop coupled to them through a reduction gear box.

BUT..... I may be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

The Control Room Floor / "Descend Via"
« on: November 04, 2013, 06:23:37 AM »
Quote from: Dhruv Kalra
ZBW is unable to use "Descend via" with their RNAV arrivals due to conflicting traffic flows that cross their STAR routes. Boston TRACON issues the final "Descend via" instruction within the terminal environment once the aircraft's vertical path is clear of conflict.

Further reading on this specific to ZBW: http://nas-confusion.blogspot.com/2012/03/...-are-happy.html

Depends on the situation.  At 4am, with little or no traffic, they bend the rules a little at times.  ie arrival on a STAR they use "at pilot discretion" and "decend via" a lot if there are no or little aircraft around.  This comes from a friend that is a real world AA pilot.

The Control Room Floor / Reality vs. Accomodating VATSIMisms

Andrew, I agree with what you are saying, I'm just getting a little sick of the "real world" thing.  I have plenty of experience in the real world on the flying side, and believe me, what most of the VATSIM pilots think of the real world is "out there" to say the least.

And if you refer back to the OP

"I think it is silly not to give a shortcut based on the fact that an adjacent ARTCC is not online. Granted, I don't mean "proceed direct the other side of the country", but a VOR in an adjoining ARTCC's airspace, particularly one that your guys might have on the scope, is not a reach."

That's all I'm trying to say also.

You guys crack me up with this "real world" this, and "real world" that.   This is NOT the real world, this is VATSIM.  Not granting a short cut based the adjoining CTR not being online is absurd if the pilot requested it.  I've offered shortcuts and the pilot declined saying they just wanted to fly the route they filed for.  Fine with me.   We need to accommodate the VATSIM pilots, most of which have no "real world" experience.

Q: How do I read?
A: Not worth a crap without reading glasses.

Even with glasses the letters have to be BOLD and at least 48 font for you to be able to read Bob.
