News / Welcome New ZLC Webmaster!
« on: May 09, 2018, 04:50:21 PM »
ZLC would like to welcome our newest Webmaster, Wes Loeffler to the team!

Since the age of 7 years old, he has been utilizing flight simulation as a means to expand his knowledge and entertainment outlets. He joined VATSIM in 2014 as a pilot and took an interest in becoming a Salt Lake City ARTCC controller just over a year ago. He is now proud to call ZLC his home.

Wes began his road to coding around the same time with HTML/CSS. Shortly after, he extended his reach to PHP. Wes has gained a great deal of experience as both a controller and coder ever since and we are exited to see what he can do with ZLC.

General Discussion / Sim Wx (True or Magnetic)?
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:14:31 AM »
(Note- I know that METAR and other printed resources report winds in True, but I am not asking about that. I know that ATIS reports in magnetic... That is not the question here. I want to know how the simulator interprets this data from the weather panel/menu... even when set manually.)

ALL Sim users... I need your help:

I need to know when you go into your simulator weather panel and you set a direction for wind manually... For example "wind is 160 degrees at 10kts"...

Is that 160 true or magnetic?

Please state the answer along with which sim you use.

Join ZLC ARTCC on the first Saturday of every month, as we promote a higher General Aviation presence on the VATSIM network. General Aviation flights are too far and few between, that many pilots and controllers loose their most basic aviation skills.

ZLC ARTCC will staff KJAC airport Ground, Tower and a Center to provide services in and out of the beautiful area. The KJAC area is PERFECT for a VFR flight around the mountains or to/from another local field.

Class D airspace surrounding the field makes operations much more simple than what most airliner pilots might be use to so, it is suggested that all pilot check the Pilot Brief for each event, as it will be updated with the most current and important information.
PILOT BRIEF: http://ge.tt/7eK8PW62/v/0?c

So dust off that old Cessna, Piper or helicopter, join the pattern, short hop to or from one of our suggested minor fields, transition the Class D airspace, or whatever you have up your sleeve!

Join ZLC ARTCC as we explore our newly developed RNAV approaches into the BOI TRACON!

Until Mid-2014, KBOI did not have any arrivals into the field and were sequenced completely via radar vectors and descents. Now some time has gone by, all of the kinks should be worked out and all sim AIRACs should be updated. Now lets put them to the test!

Let us not forget about our VFR or General Aviation fligthts, we always welcome a few more dots on the screen checking out the beautiful scenery Boise has to offer. Let us provide you with some flight following around potato country!

Join ZLC in preparing the 2014 closeout and opening for an entirely new ZLC 27 DEC 2014!
We will focus our energy towards the S56 TRACON and KSLC airport. We welcome anything you have up your sleeve to help as we vector airliners in and out of the famous narrow Salt Lake valley to turn a shot base to final. Along with sequencing VFR aircraft through the I-15 VFR transition.
This is expected to be a night of fun and excitement!

Back in 2012, a flight watch experiment was conducted. I am wondering if we could implement this or what the outcome was?

Hello,

When going to VATUSA forums via an iOS device, I get a message saying that the forum is hosted on TapaTalk.

I use talatalk for many different forums but I can't seem to find VATUSA there. What do I type into the search?

Already tried VATUSA, forums.vatusa.ne and, VATUSA.net
