Not sure how everyone else felt about it, but, this format for Friday Night Ops seemed to work pretty well tonight.  Los Angeles and San Francisco were busier than the reat, but, traffic was pretty well spread out throughout the west otherwise.  And I don't think either of those two were so buried as to be overwhelmed.  I also didn't feel like ATC was spread so thin to be "diluted" -- staffing was fairly solid, and I felt I got pretty good service throughout the West Coast.  Did it seem like a success to everyone else?

Can some help me connect x pilot to vatsim my x pilot says it’s connected but vatsim never picks it up
Try the advice from the FAQ section of the xPilot Discord -- image attached.  If that doesn't help, consider asking on the xPilot Discord itself: https://vats.im/xpilot-discord

Now it is 6am and I haven't gone to bed yet, but I don't think I'm going this crazy. Are the letters on that banner moving?
Holy crap, dude, I just experienced the same illusion and I hadn't even seen your post here.

And yah, it's almost 330am where I am right now.  Not a coincidence, I imagine.

I know a couple guys that were on KC_DEP tonight wanted to see this, so, sharing it here.

Not trying to call out the controller, by the way -- he did a phenomenal job under the circumstances, including a bunch of go-arounds at KMCI featuring one who erroneously claimed Tower was on the wrong frequency(??!?!)...

Are the OTSs at those fields specifically or will it be beneficial to provide GA traffic among satellite airports to either / both?

Any idea what facilities, specifically, will be staffed?

I just wanted to rant a little.  Pilots, when we have metering in place, it's for a reason.  It's not because we like making you wait.  And when you decide you're too self-important to sit on the ground for a few minutes, so you disconnect, take off, and reconnect 5 miles west of the airport expecting to be worked into the very same flow we were trying to have you join later on -- well, that's just a selfish thumb-to-the-nose to everyone else who was waiting their turn.  300 planes can't all arrive at Boston at the same time, but I guess this one departing from Baltimore decided he was better than everyone else.  I heard he later got 7 laps of a hold over New York, so, maybe that clued him in as to what we were trying to do, and maybe it didn't.  I soooo want to call him out by name or callsign right now but I know I can't do that.  But, any other pilots reading this -- if your controllers are trying to moderate the flow to the destination airport, there's a reason.  Don't pull a d--ch---g move like that and jump the line.  Thanks.

Do we get bonus points if our flight paths are flown without the aid of a GPS or other RNAV capability?  ;-)

The Flight Deck / Re: Controllers Don't Respond to Text
« on: August 15, 2020, 11:48:54 AM »
There are many, many legitimate reasons why a pilot should operate /r.  And if you fall under one of those, then please ignore the rest of this post.

If your reason for flying /r is something like "mic fright," then consider giving two-way voice a try.  It's much easier on the controllers, you'll get better service during events, and you may find the process much less burdensome than typing and flying.  Don't be afraid to sound like an idiot the first few times.  Trust me when I say it's unavoidable and we all did too. ;-)

The Control Room Floor / Re: Newbie looking for best ARTCC for training
« on: August 15, 2020, 11:40:30 AM »
Pretty much everyone will tell you why their own ARTCC is the best.

So... I'll start, LOL.

ZDC has a very large and active training staff, a pretty interesting airspace, and a good balance of realism and casual fun.

... that being said, I didn't choose it for any of those reasons.  I chose it because it's my home area.  ;-)
