« on: August 21, 2024, 10:13:21 AM »

Hello VATSIM aviators!

One of our own, Ed - better known by his Twitch username LowVoltageTech has flown west - he was only 47.  Ed was a devoted father of two little boys, lifelong public servant (both in the Air Force and EMS), and an avid simmer. He enjoyed flying everything from helicopters to the brand-new 777 from PMDG. His presence in our small community will be sorely missed.

We would like to extend an invitation to all VATSIM aviators - help us honor our friend and fellow community member. We will be holding a fly-in event at Long Island Islip Airport this Sunday, August 25th from 12-4pm. You can fly what you'd like (Ed enjoyed the Challenger by Hotstart and various helicopters the most) and meet us there! We would ask that prospective pilots choose an aircraft that's size-appropriate for KISP (Read: Please no heavies or Concord). Two members of our community will be streaming the event from the pilot's perspective: https://www.twitch.tv/ground_point_niner and https://www.twitch.tv/bwflightsimulation

We are doing what we can to help Ed's two young boys by promoting a GoFundMe that was set up to assist them. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-noahcoltons-future-in-memory-of-ed-david. We are certainly going to miss hearing their voices in the background while Ed was simming with us. We hope you will join us on Sunday and, if you should find it within your means to donate, thank you for doing so.

Ed was a pillar in our community. He was always up on the latest news, tech, and participated in as many events as he could. We made many fond memories with him at FlightSimExpo.

Smooth skies and tailwinds, Ed. Until we meet again.

Events / [12/01/2024] VATSIM Elite Wings
« on: June 25, 2024, 12:32:14 PM »

Get ready for the latest challenge of VATSIM's Elite Wings series! This edition will take you on an exhilarating journey from San Jose (KSJC) to Burbank (KBUR).

If you depart from San Jose (KSJC), you'll navigate to an airport located in the upper Southern California Mountains which also served as the location of Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works during the Cold War. If you depart from Burbank (KBUR), you'll fly to one of the busiest hubs in Northern California serving the Silicon Valley in downtown San Jose.

Upon arrival, brace yourself for the challenging approaches due to mountainous terrain, short runways and steep turns on final. Both airports demand precision and skill - whether you're navigating the valley around the San Gabriel Mountains into Burbank (KBUR) or Santa Clara Fairgrounds into San Jose (KSJC), your piloting abilities will certainly be put to test!

« on: June 12, 2024, 06:43:43 PM »

It's a shame that events often fail to provide pilots with an abundance of options. Typically they will feature only a couple airfields, and aviators will only have a couple city-pairs to consider if they want some stellar ATC service. Well on August 9th, you can forget about that problem.

VATUSA will be on this Friday from 2300 to 0300z. We are guaranteeing coverage from coast to coast, sea to sea, border to border, however you want to say it. The hardest part about this event: choosing where to fly. You'll only have four hours of guaranteed coverage, so make the most of it. Our recommendation: do something different. Don't take out the 737 for your classic bored milk runs. Load up a plane that you haven't tried in a while. Visit a part of the country that you haven't seen before. Whatever you do, you know you'll have coverage from VATSIM's best.

Be part of VATUSA's signature event and help us...

Events / [17 May 2024 2359 - 0400z] The Class D Spree
« on: April 28, 2024, 01:46:37 AM »

Join the West Coast's finest for a regional FNO featuring Class D airports! There are no featured fields for this event. Pilots are encouraged to see what airports are open at the start of event time, and fly between them! Make an appearance at each host ARTCC with a long coastal flight, or make milk runs around your favorite small fields! The options are endless for The Class D Spree.

With this unique West Coast partnership, we hope to showcase some of the underappreciated western airports, Pilots are encouraged to fly realistic routes amongst event ARTCCs, and our skilled air traffic controllers will provide professional ATC. We look forward to seeing a web of flights!

Note: Pilots conducting flights to/from SEA/PDX/SFO/OAK/LAX/LAS may be subject to delays to prevent congestion of unstaffed airports. We suggest loading in at event start at a staffed field, and flying to another staffed airport. Airport staffing will not change throughout the night, but airports will not be announced ahead of time.

« on: February 16, 2024, 10:21:58 PM »

The VATSIM Seattle ARTCC presents Spring In Seattle ft. KSEA!
Saturday, March 30, 2024
2330-0330z (1630-2030 PDT)

Join VATSIM Seattle ARTCC controllers as we celebrate the coming of warmer weather at Seattle! This event will be run in conjunction with the Cherry Blossom Fly-In hosted by vZDC. The Cherry Trees covering Seattle were a gift from the government of Japan to the city of Seattle in 1912, as a symbol of goodwill and friendship, along with a simultaneous donation to Washington DC. We hope to see pilots fly in from around the world to this celebration of springtime and unity.

ATTENTION PILOTS: Seattle Ramp Control is open at ZSE. Please refer to the attached image for gates, spots, and frequencies.
