Surprising news indeed but certainly understandable. I wish you well Bob in hopefully what is a "short term" retirement. You have been a good friend to ZMA, VATUSA ,VATSIM, and me personally.  Enjoy those fishing excursions and strolls in the park. Kids grow up way too fast.  And remember, your rocking chair is still on the porch here in South Florida

As has been said, I can't think of a better replacement than Tom, another ZMA alumni. I'm sure you have already hit the ground running Tom. With that said, we will all continue to see great things from the new Don and Tom show.  Wait....isn't that already some type of radio talk show??  Congrats Mr. Seeley

That looks bad enough on text. I can only imagine what bedlam there would have been if that pilot had full voice capability. All things being equal, you may have gotten off lucky with him being / T!!!

You actually did have me Don, up until the point of Bob "candy coating" things.  That made as much sense as the boys in the band ordering boat drinks - everything seems to be wrong ( to quote Jimmy Buffet ).      

The Mike B. part did make sense though

Hmmmm....if memory serves me correct (which I admit isn't always the case) I seem to recall an announcement about a year ago at this time regarding VATUSA joining forces with the FAA to provide ATC services during sequestation. I'm still waiting to see what facilties we're being assigned to...........Let me check, yep still 4/1/14.

I'm going to open another beer.

Ditto to the above. JoinAvA has always brought their "A game" (no pun intended) whenvever they have flown in or out of South Florida. It has always been our pleasure to work with them, as well as the other VA's that join them.

Pedro, as we discussed previously, the ZMA TS is for ATC personnel use only, not for pilots to communicate with ATC.  You, as a pilot, do not communicate with ATC via TS, but rather, through your pilot client be it squawkbox or FSINN. Had a guy the other day on text tell me that he was "airborned" as he lifted off the r/w on takeoff.  Not sure if his plane may have given birth to another plane on take off, but I wasn't going to ask......
