I am excited to announce that Krikor Hajian (HI) has been appointed to the position of Events Coordinator at Boston Virtual ARTCC. Krikor has been an ATC Mentor for quite some time and has contributed to the ARTCC in many other ways, including but not limited to his help with facility files. He is always willing to lend a hand and help out in any way possible. He is, without a doubt, an extremely positive influence on the community as a whole and a perfect fit for the position.

Please join me in congratulating him!

News / ZBW Seeking a Webmaster
« on: January 24, 2016, 06:31:06 PM »
Our ARTCC is in a unique scenario at the moment in that we have a patchwork of a few different systems (archived website, bvartcc.com website, and these forums) that currently aren't interconnected. We also don't currently have a member of the staff with the availability or technical expertise to create a unifying website that will either bring all of those elements together, or create a new interconnected website and forums that meet our needs.

We are exploring two possibilities, the first being finding a Webmaster who has the availability and commitment to build us a new website. The website would need to be CMS-based with several custom applications including training/roster administration, PRP ratings, events sign-up, and an integrated VATSIM SSO sign-in system. A second option would be finding and paying a professional web developer to create a website for us, in which case the role of a new Webmaster would be to oversee the contract and development of this website, and to know enough about it to maintain the website moving forward.

Potential applicants for the webmaster role should clearly identify in their application which of the two options above they are intending to pursue if selected to the position.

Boston Virtual ARTCC is one of the only integrated ATC and pilot communities on the VATSIM network. As a result, we have one of the busiest, realistic, and professional on-frequency experiences available. Controllers in our ARTCC have the benefit of talking primarily to member pilots who know the airspace, train through the Pilot Ratings Program, and are available in TeamSpeak to help others. A webmaster will join our experienced Administration Team and will also have the ability to join our ATC roster through an abbreviated process skipping the majority of the requirements for regular visitors or transfers (if that is of interest and if the candidate is already a controller with another facility).

The official position posting is listed below. The posting will remain open until a candidate is selected.

« on: November 04, 2015, 08:57:33 AM »

As thanksgiving approaches, many find themselves running to gather last minute cooking supplies, food, and more. Here in the northeast, people will be flocking to the nearest grocery store to stock up on what they need for the holiday. One common necessity in New England being Clam Chowder. If you're looking to make this Thanksgiving a good one, be sure to join us for a 'Chowdah Run' between Boston (BOS) and the Cape Islands (ACK & MVY). Whether you're hopping aboard an airline flight or making a fun little jaunt in your Cessna from point A to point B, join us for a great night in ZBW airspace from 2359-0400z on November 20th.

General Discussion / Website Drop-Down Problems
« on: October 13, 2015, 09:08:32 AM »
Not sure if its just me, but I tried 3 different browsers and even tried my phone and I still can't get the dropdowns to work under "My VATUSA" on the website. I'm attempting to assign an exam for a student but am unable to do so because I can't get the dropdown to work. This has been happening more and more often for me recently.

Thanks,

Events / A New Beginning - Boston Virtual ARTCC
« on: July 27, 2015, 09:07:28 PM »

VATSIM’s Boston ARTCC and Boston Virtual ATC are coming together to form one organization of pilots and air traffic controllers called Boston Virtual ARTCC. Together, the two organizations will be able to provide the best integrated pilot and air traffic control community online. By combining the airline traffic common on VATSIM with the general aviation-focused traffic on Boston Virtual ATC, the new community offers the most realistic mix of traffic in a routinely busy environment. The increase in general aviation and internal ZBW traffic, including from Cape Air Virtual, gives controllers new opportunities to practice their craft. Controllers are training and working together to manage what will become one of the busiest airspaces on VATSIM. Meanwhile, the combined ATC training staff will be larger, allowing controllers to benefit from more training opportunities and staff who have a multitude of experiences on various networks.

Please join us in celebrating this extraordinary merger as we host our first major event as one community. ZBW will be lit up and staffed more than it ever has been before. All types of traffic are welcome across the area and the entire ARTCC, be it your local flying club doing some VFR, your VA operating scheduled flights, or just a fun little jaunt in your Cessna from point A to point B, we'll be turning up the heat for our controllers and shooting for a busy Sunday night.

We hope to see you there!

Events / FlightSimCon 2015
« on: June 03, 2015, 10:49:51 PM »

We are only 10 days out from FlightSimCon 2015! VATSIM will be represented by multiple sub-divisions of the organization, including Virtual Boston and New York ARTCCs. We will have two separate booths (side by side) demonstrating both sides of the network (both pilot and ATC). Our VATSIM-specific controlling software, pilot clients, and much more will be on display. Additionally, students, senior controllers, and staff will all be there to answer your questions and show you what VATSIM is all about.

Be advised that, as you would imagine, to properly demonstrate the software, we have to be online controlling! With that said, both Virtual Boston and New York ARTCCs will be staffed throughout the weekend virtually the entire time we are at FlightSimCon 2015. This acts as a major hint to all of you pilots that are looking for some quality, professional ATC over the weekend. Disclaimer: This is not an official VATSIM event and we cannot guarantee ATC throughout the entire weekend, so please don't be upset if you get on and we aren't online. What I can guarantee is that we will be online a very good amount of the weekend and you will be able to catch us at some point I'm sure.

Speaking of flying during FlightSimCon, Canadian Xpress Virtual is hosting a fly-in at 1530z on the first day of the event (June 13th). They are inviting any and all pilots to join as they fly into KBDL to simulate flying to FlightSimCon! Please feel free to join in on the fun (banner below).

Well, I believe that covers it all folks. All other information can be found on the FlightSimCon website. Last but certainly not least, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for live updates, pictures, news, and more. We certainly hope you enjoy the event both online and in person. Hope to see you there!

Events / Boston Tea Party 2015
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:40:03 PM »

The 16th Annual Boston Tea Party is coming! On Saturday, August 8th, Boston's finest controllers will gather on the campus of Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH for the 16th consecutive year as we present our own Boston Tea Party! ZBW airspace will be fully staffed for our premier event and we will have some fantastic prizes lined up as well. Not only will Boston Logan staffed to the hilt, but we also plan to staff many of our smaller airports, such as Hartford-Bradley, Providence, Albany, and the variety of airports on the Cape. All airports in the ZBW airspace will have at least center coverage. During Tea Party, you'll be able to share the fun with many pilots. Last year, virtual Boston had more traffic than real Boston did during the same timespan, and numbers were comparable at Bradley International. Where ever you choose to fly during Tea Party rest assured you will not be alone.
