The Control Room Floor / Vis Ranges and VRC

I had the EXACT same problem. I would only get kicked when I was working CTR during big events, like FNO's or Cross the Pond (The worse times to get kicked trust me). My problem was I thought it would be a good idea to use servers like Europe, Uk, and Oceanic, because hey, when we Americans are online the American servers must be worse to use because of all the people right? Wrong. A pretty stupid mistake for somebody who's been controlling this long lol. To find the best server for you go on VATSPY (ServInfo does this also but I don't know how), go to "Network Servers" and click their link to show the ones with the fastest speeds. I don't know much about exactly what it is, but usually it's the one closest to where you live (I live in FL, USA-E works best for me). I hope this helps.

General Discussion / Check-In Responsibility

I read this while I was controlling an empty airspace today. I got from the beginning talking about a sup abusing power, then to suggestions of CoC additions, then to some stuff about how vatsim started, then an interesting scenario involving a CoC addition, then I skipped a few pages and saw something about payware developers, then skipped some more and saw people argueing about something I couldn't understand because to understand it I would have had to read the previous 1-3 pages, then skipped to the last page and saw a censored email about dumping Sh!# somewhere. VATSIM is not only an ATC/Flying simulator, it's a politics simulator! Some of you are angered, tickled or given something to do by this, I'm interested. Next we can bring in the labor jobs, medical jobs and maybe even various housing projects. This is like the Truman Show, and frankly I'm amazed it's still free.

General Discussion / BIG Sessions and VATUSA Servers.

That was me on Cleveland Center, and my email haha. I got disconnected probably 4 or 5 times, however I will say that was my first time getting disconnected during an event EVER. Also, there have been some problems with the UK server I heard, which is the main one I used, the other times I was getting disconnected from the two US servers. Generally though I've always had least amount problems with the UK servers.

General Discussion / Party at the FAA!

Well hey, now at least we know controllers know how to party. Lives are saved by ATC all day every day, yet we only see on the news about how bad the delays are and who's fault it is. Also, who are WE to trust in the news about ATC related matters? We've all seen the other reports about ATC and flying, such as after the Hudson River midair; we had to all hear about how VFR is the "Wild West" of the sky and needs to be banned for the safety of all Americans who fly on the airlines. They do very little research on the topic and show what will most easily scare and infuriate viewers. I agree with Jeff, better this than a party for somebody else. Besides, Christmas parties never get out of hand.
