The Classroom (Controller Tips) / Controlling the Arrivals

There's also no requirement that controllers operate their radar client with their monitors or speakers turned on. That's a ridiculous argument.

Where is the like button here?

Personally, with all the flying I've been doing recently.. I would always ask en-route to give me a shortcut. And always happy to receive one. Seldom do I follow the SID, unless it gets me around a terrain, otherwise, I would just go direct to the first fix in my flight plan. I do the same for STARS. I'd prefer to go directly to the IAF. If someone vectors me directly to an IAF, I would be eternally grateful. (:

The Control Room Floor / limited instructors/How do I advance?

You also have to take into consideration the amount of time available in the hands of those Instructors. Since this isn't a real day job, real life priorities is always the commitment. Although I understand it must be frustrating if you've been waiting in line for a while. Just be patient and I'm sure they'll attend to you in a matter of time. I'm sure everyone's been there too at some point in their controlling career.

Virtual Airlines / JoinAvA Group Flights!

For the past few months, we at American Virtual Airlines are doing this regular weekly group flights. The most recent one was our support for Denver's Community Control Nights. Which means flights is to originate or terminate at any of Denver ARTCC's airports. Often, we take into consideration where the traffic is needed, to aid an on-going controller training or check-out. So it's kind of like a Pilot Hit Squad, so-to-speak. We've been in and out of Denver for the past 2 months if I can recall it correctly, and now, we're changing our locations to ARTCCs where traffic is most needed to boost traffic, and controller training.

These coming weeks, we'll be going in and out of Salt Lake ARTCC, upon their request. This will be then our Monday Group Flights. Our Wednesday Group Flights will be reserved for our European tour, however, if there's a need, or if in any way we can provide you some traffic for your controller's training, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

We're looking forward to improve our ties with VATUSA ARTCCs even more, and assist the much needed controller training whenever possible.

Kind regards,

Romano Lara

General Discussion / C3 Rating
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:04:42 PM »
Just abolish the rating system and replace it with a certification system = no more C3 debate.

Kidding aside, for me the rating is just a rating, it serves no valid significance that will grant you access to anything special. Like previously said, there's really nothing a C3 can access that a C1 cannot. If we're talking about seniority, or perhaps, those who goes above and beyond the expectations, I know a lot of C1, even S3 (that I also happen to respect a LOT). It doesn't have to be a C3 guy walking around to earn someone's respect. It's how you demonstrate yourself to others, not by rating, or "experience" alone. As long as we're all enjoying the hobby while giving back one way or the other, it's all that matters.

One could really give all his/her efforts, not for the genuine intent to actually 'give back', but for a certain rating. At the end of the day, when you don't get what you were expecting, it will only leave you disappointed.

My 2c for what it's worth..
