Purpose:

Salt Lake City is looking for a motivated individual that possesses a high degree of energy and commitment to serve as the Deputy Air Traffic Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Air Traffic Manager.
  • Assists in management of ATC Roster, permissions and access, Discord administration, and other general administrative tasks associated with ATC organization.
  • Assists in development of ARTCC SOPs, LOAs, Policies, and more.
  • Maintains a high online presence and community presence.
  • Assists the ATM in duties, when required.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • CURRENTLY:
    • Holds a VATSIM C1 rating or higher without a significant disciplinary record.
    • Understands this position requires a significant time commitment (usually 1-2hrs a day; sometimes more, sometimes less)
    • Demonstrates the qualities of understanding, patience, restraint, and professionalism.
    • Strengthens others through consistent feedback while driving productivity and morale.
    • Holds self and others accountable to high performance standards while providing pilots with memorable experiences.
    • Not only accepts feedback and constructive criticism, but desires it.
    • Demonstrates and presents themselves in a professional manner, including speech, behavior, and correspondence.

  • WILL:
    • Demonstrate, in a timely-manner, an expert-level proficiency of the Salt Lake City policies, procedures, airspace, & directives.
    • Support the Salt Lake City ARTCC’s mission of providing realistic air traffic control environments to ATC and services to pilots.
    • Continuously meet all activity requirements as outlined in ZLC ARTCC Policy Manual, as appropriate.
    • Serve as a leader to coach and motivate members while upholding a culture that builds exceptional internal and external experiences for members and pilots.
    • Ensure that Salt Lake City is in compliance with all VATSIM and VATUSA policies & directives; This also includes real world ICAO and FAA policies, directives, regulations, etc… when applicable.
    • Support and participate in initiatives that give back to the VATSIM community.
    • Attend meetings when required by management.
    • Support the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse range of talented people.
    • Assume the duties of the ATM when they are not available.
    • Maintain an active online presence on the VATSIM server and Salt Lake City ARTCC Discord (respond quickly and professionally to communications on a regular basis).
    • Monitor and respond to VATSIM registered and ZLC Staff email at least once every 24hrs.
    • Take lead as project manager for any project within ZLC, when required.
    • Monitor the daily activities of the ARTCC and be ready to assume any staff responsibility/project at a given moment.

Preferred:

  • Currently demonstrates items in the “Requirements>Will” section of this posting.
  • Has attended VATUSA professionalism meetings.
  • Prior ATC Mentor/Instructor experience.
  • Teaching/Education experience (on &/or off VATSIM).
  • Leadership, managerial, or supervisory experience (real world & VATSIM).
  • Real world aviation/ATC/Pilot experience.
