The Control Room Floor / How do you read?

It is standard ICAO terminology.  It has been used by radiotelephone operators (commercial, professional and amateur) for decades.  Gotta put the kids to bed, but a quick look here shows some standard radiotelephony terms:  http://www.wrrl.org/operating/icao_radiotelephony.htm

Thanks Don!

Interesting,  but does anyone know where the term originated from?

It is a phrase that I hear almost as often as "Traffic Traffic Decend decend"   but is it an acceptable phrase for controllers to use?

Normally when I fly I do be Voice receive  and 7 out of every 10 controllers  starts the conversation asking "How do I read"

I googled "How do I read 7110.65" hoping the phrase would show up,  but it probably wasn't my brightest idea

But in all seriousness,  is this just one of those "Vatsimisms"    Would their be a better way to ask pilots?  and where do Controllers get the phrase from???

There's no rule against it.....  I think this approach is quite fair and certainly keeping in the spirit of the rules.

Thanks for clearing it up Don

What is VATSIM's Current view on Pilots who squawk 7600?

on our training page It states that in the COC  (  2003 )  that "PILOTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO SIMULATE A RADIO FAILUREĀ CONDITION BY ENTERING A TRANSPONDER CODE OF 7600"

http://www.vatusa.net/training/tiki-index...._to_Emergencies

In the current COC  It no longer states that simulating a Radio faulure is prohibited  http://www.vatsim.net/network/docs/coc/

I know that the COC has changed over the past 10 years,,  but Im just wondering where VATSIM Currently stands?

Did you just join?

It normally takes up to 24 hours for all the servers to sync,

thats the most common issue

I would recommend trying a new Vox server if you haven't already,

I had that same problem a few times when I used the rw server, and once I changed I could select Headset

Greetings everyone!
I am a bit new to vatusa, though I have taken the basic atc test a few times and have not passed. Any Advice? And also, will I have to take any tests after the basic atc? Thanks for your help!

Best regards,
Anthony.

Welcome to VATUSA!

in my opinion you shouldn't worry too much about the basic exam,  most of the questions should be based on material from the VATUSA training section  Here
If you don't pass,  review the answers and learn from the mistakes,   it may take a few attempts but you will get there!

when you start actually controlling,  The main thing will be making sure that the Green blimps Never touch,  Its the red ones that cause the problem

And to answer your last question   yes,  there will be more test,  when you get moved up the ranks as a controller, (i.e S1 S2 S3 ect) you will have a test similar to the one you already took,  but they are much easier and your Instructor will help you prepare for it!

All this is from memory,  their may be 1 or 2 small things i left out,  but Hopefully this helps

See you on the scopes!
