Please join me in congratulating Dylan Lundberg as ZMEs newest ATM! Dylan has an enormous background in management serving as ATM for ZSE and HCF, RM for the North Eastern Region, and most recently TA for ZDC. Dylan also has a plethora of real world management experience. I am extremely excited for Dylan and equally excited for ZME.

I would like to thank Richard Sill for his many years as ZMEs ATM.

ATM Vacancy Announcement

Position: Air Traffic Manager
Location: Memphis ARTCC (ZME)
Time Commitment: 15-30 hours monthly, plus required hours to maintain currency
Supervisor: Deputy Director of Air Traffic Services (Central Region)
Application Deadline: 9 August 2022

VATUSA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Air Traffic Manager at the Memphis ARTCC. This position is not an entry-level position and will require significant time commitments to effectively perform the duties of Air Traffic Manager.


Duties of the Air Traffic Manager:

- Reports to their respective Deputy Director of Air Traffic Services.
- Must maintain an online presence on the VATSIM network
- Maintains facility website and discord/teamspeak
- Drafts ARTCC SOPs, LOAs and other appropriate documents; seeks DDD-ATS approval for the same
- Ensures ARTCC SOPs, LOAs and other appropriate documents are readily available for viewing/download
- Functions as VATUSA staff member and attends meetings as necessary to discuss and stay current with region and division issues, policies, and initiatives
- Manages and defines the duties of ARTCC staff; submits selection of Deputy ATM and Webmaster to their DDD-ATS for division confirmation; submits selection of Training Administrator to the Training Director for division confirmation
- Provides guidance and help to assigned controllers; may establish a staff of "Mentors" to assist with training
- Works with or delegates a liaison to work with region/division-level Events Coordinators on events as necessary
- Addresses disciplinary situations with the Southern Region Manager when appropriate


Minimum Requirements:

- Possess a high degree of energy and commitment appropriate to the requirements of the position
- Must have at least a Controller (C1) rating
- Must be at least eighteen years old by the time of application
- Must be an active member of the network in good standing
- Must be able to work in a team environment and function as a team member
- Must conduct themselves in a professional manner in all interaction within their role
- Have no significant disciplinary record, no history of unprofessional behavior
- Demonstrates qualities of understanding, patience, and maturity.
- Understands the role of the ARTCC and ARTCC staff within the Central Region, VATUSA, and VATSIM Americas
- Understands the position requires CONSIDERABLE commitment of time
- Experience effectively managing others through good leadership practices

Preferred qualities:
- Prior ARTCC staff experience
- Prior or current Instructor or Mentor experience
- Real world management experience

Capable of working well in team-oriented environment
Familiar with sector file design methodologies and utilities
Familiar with tools such as VRC, vSTARS, vERAM, alias files, etc.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills
S3 rating or Higher
Demonstrated experience developing and/or maintaining facilities/sector files

The Washington ARTCC is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Events Coordinator. Those seeking to apply see applicable responsibilities and requirements below.

Job Description:
The Events Coordinator is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and execution of
events at the ARTCC. The Events Coordinator requires considerable amount of work to include up to 5 hours per week executing Events Coordinator duties. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reports to the DATM.
  • Identifies and develops events to generate traffic and promote the ARTCC.
  • Implements and oversees approved events.
  • Coordinates with neighboring ARTCC to arrange support for ZDC hosted events and
    neighboring events.
  • Coordinates with VATUSA NOM for event planning, traffic expectations, event execution, and debrief.
  • Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote events and the ARTCC.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must hold S2 Rating. MUST obtain S3 rating within 60 days of appointment.
  • Must have no disciplinary record with VATSIM, VATUSA, or ZDC ARTCC within the last year.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as this is a client-facing position.
Desired Qualifications:
  • C1 Rating preferred
  • Knowledge of the ZDC airspace and typical traffic loads in various event situations
  • Experience/talent in graphic design, typography, etc.
  • Experience with event planning of any type

ZDC is seeking a highly motivated person for the position of Webmaster.

Duties:
-Implements a new back-end and front-end structure for the ZDC Website;
-Manages ZDC Teamspeak, Web Services, E-mail and Voice Server;
-Selection of assistants or helpers as needed;
-Other duties as assigned or requested by the ATM, DATM or TA;
-Reports to the ZDC DATM.

Requirements:
-An active member of ZDC or willing to transfer to ZDC if selected;
-Capable of working in a team environment;
-Proficiency in production environment and testing in: PHP, CSS, MySQL (and related interfaces in PHP), *NIX (preferably Ubuntu), AJAX, JSON and HTML5.

ZDC is seeking a well qualified person for the position of Facilities Engineer.

Job Description:
  • Answers directly to the Air Traffic Manager (ATM)
  • Maintains ARTCC SOP's
  • Maintains and updates the sector files for all ATC clients approved for use on the VATSIM Network
  • Maintains the Video Maps, POF and Alias files for ATC Clients
  • Maintains the vATIS configuration files
  • Coordinates with adjoining ARTCCs to maintain inter-facility LOAs and Frequency use
  • Maintains a frequent online presence on the VATISM Network
  • Notify Senior ARTCC Staff of AIRAC cycle updates affecting the ARTCC operations
  • Attend quarterly meetings called by the ARTCC Staff

Minimum Requirements:
  • Hold a rating of S2 or higher
  • Be in good standing on the VATSIM Network with no significant disciplinary actions in the last 12 months
  • Have extensive knowledge of VRC, vATIS, vERAM, and vSTARS
  • Must be able to create and/or modify sector files for all ATC Clients and all associated support files

Manages and oversees the ARTCCs data services including web content and delivery, web services, email systems, data storage systems, etc.
Must respond quickly to website and data system needs.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for operation and maintenance of the ARTCC web and data systems.
Supports and participates in initiatives that give back to the VATSIM community.
Supports the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse range of talented people.
Holds self and others accountable to high-performance standards while providing pilots with memorable experiences.

Maintains an online presence on the VATSIM server and ZDC TeamSpeak.
Attends periodic meetings to report on ARTCC activities.

Please join me in congratulating Tim Evans for his appointment as our newest Events Coordinator. Tim brings a ton of excitement and ideas to the table. We are very excited to see him transition to his staff role.

Duties
   *Reports to ZDC Senior Staff (ATM, DATM) and the VATUSA Events Manager/VA Liaison (VATUSA5)
   *Creates, plans, manages and executes events to generate pilot and controller participation while
     promoting ZDC
   *Coordinates with neighboring facilities to arrange support for ZDC events and arranges ZDC support for
     events held by neighboring facilities
   *Maintains active relationship with virtual airlines, coordinates for VA-hosted events affecting ZDC airspace
   *Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote events and ZDC
   *Attends staff meetings as called by the senior staff
   *Maintains active online presence on the ZDC website, TeamSpeak, VATUSA Forum and the VATSIM
     network
